20th June 1952, Today, Prime Minister Shigeru Yoshida announced elections to be held on the 30th of October 1952. "The four years that a government is allowed to rule under Japanese elections have nearly ended so new elections were mandatory." he told to the assembled press. "I hope for proper elections and that the people of Japan will continue to believe in my leadership. Under my reign, Japan has made a decent start in recovering from the Second World War, and I intend to continue this way if I get re-elected." Furthermore, the Prime Minister announced that Katsuo Okazaki will take over the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs from himself until the next elections. As a reason he stated that he did not "wish to act as a Minister of Foreign Affairs while the election campaign was running, which might prejudice the voters." Asahi Shimbun |
