DATE HELD: June 13th, 2017 on EVOLVE Network LOCATION: Louisville Gardens in Louisville, USA COMMENTATORS: Laurel Anne Hardy, Winston Robinson MATCH ONE VS. ![]() The bout started out strongly in the Big Bad Brooks’ favour, with the Georgia native putting his superior strength and size to good work to cut the Peruvian’s speed advantage. Showing himself as expert a mat technician as anything else, Brooks kept the heat on throughout, but regardless of Spear, Spinebuster, or even his infamous Flashover (Rear Naked Choke), he was unable to secure the victory, the last being broken up with a quick rope break. The SSWA Rising Star champion was able to mount an effective fightback, her speed proving to be something he had difficulty in managing. Vasquez effectively began employing hit and run tactics, keeping Brooks disoriented, and getting in her own fall attempts following a Heavy Hitter (Tilt-a-Whirl DDT) and Muere en Silencio (Anaconda Choke), but Brooks would not be kept down. Powering out of both holds, Danielle looked to go for the big finish, running up the corner ropes and launching at Brooks with a Qoya (Turnbuckle Run Tornado DDT), only for Brooks to catch her, swinging her over his shoulders. His decision to pose for a moment, setting Danielle up for the Hook N’ Ladder (Fireman’s Carry Blue Thunder Driver) proved to be his downfall however, as she hammered Elbows into the side of his head, before managing to spin out, and complete the Tornado DDT, spiking him into the mat! She covered, and managed to get the pinfall, to everyone’s surprise including her own, Brooks kicking out seconds too late. Winner: ![]() MATCH TWO VS. ![]() An even match from the off, the CCP Women’s Champion and the Cape Town Crusher went in hard and fast with their strikes, Crystal’s MMA background standing her in good sense against the heavy hitting South African. The blows flew back and forth: Kelly threw everything including a Cape Town Crusher (Springboard Roundhouse Kick) in Alvarez’s direction, but it wasn’t enough to keep her down. Crystal was no slouch, and the Puerto Rican gave as good as she got, even unleashing her KO Queen Special combo (Three Left Handed Jabs followed by a Right Hook). As the match went on, however, Kelly’s conditioning came into play, managing to keep on top of Crystal effectively, the strikes doing a solid job of rocking her. Driving knees and elbows to the ribs, kidneys, thighs, wherever, he rocked her hard before locking her up for a Short Arm Clothesline, whipping her out, bringing her back… but she leaps, hooking up his arm and falling back, locking him in a Tap or Die (Modified Gogoplata)! Kelly struggles against the hold for a moment, but quickly realising his predicament taps out to prevent further damage. Winner: ![]() MATCH THREE VS. ![]() Lyza was quick out the blocks, looking to take it to Jay quickly to stop him being able to get any momentum. She launched into a complete high speed offensive, hitting Pride with quick, hard impacts, looking to take him down fast, with little concern to the damage to her own body. Highlights in the early moments included a Dreambodycatcher (Diving Crossbody), hit seamlessly after running right up the turnbuckles and leading to a two count, and a Springboard Headscissors Takedown that sent Jay spiralling across the ring, but again wasn’t enough to put him away. As the match went on, Lyza slowed, and Jay’s slow and steady style started to prevail. Lyza still caught him with the impacts, but found herself becoming the victim of his classical technical style, Jay employing a range of hooks and locks to slow Lyza down, and bring things to his speed. Wearing her down first with an Armhook Sleeper, and later with a Before a Fall (Canadian Backbreaker Rack), before finally switching it up, landing a Pride Eater (Over-the-Shoulder Sitout Belly to Belly Piledriver), and hooking the leg for the three count. Winner: ![]() MATCH FOUR VS. ![]() Fresh off of having fought two matches the previous night, coupled with a transatlantic flight, it was evident from the off that Evangelista was not in prime condition. Ever the nice guy, the Bueno One gave Evangelista the chance to forfeit the match at the start, but to a cheer from the crowd she declined, putting forward that if she was going down, she was going down fighting. Pedro, unsurprisingly, found himself on the better end of their technical exchanges, taking advantage, however unwillingly, of Evangelista’s tiredness. Regardless, Evangelista refused to be put down. Using the ropes, reversing wherever she could, her ring presence was on point, but it wasn’t enough to give herself the advantage. Pedro continued to wear her down, dropping her with a Retrograde Am-Knee-Sia (Bicycle High Knee), before following up with El Destino (Springboard Corkscrew Moonsault), only for Evangelista to roll clear. Seeing her first clear opportunity, she got to her feet unsteadily, before staggering forward and catching Pedro as he sat up with a Stevie G (Running Kick to back of seated opponent’s head), dropping him down hard. Not letting up, she quickly followed up, locking him in a Lime Street Loop (Double Grapevine Dragon Sleeper). Pedro tried his hardest to power out of the hold, but even in her weakened state Evangelista was able to keep it locked in, and Pedro had no option but to eventually submit. Winner: ![]() MATCH FIVE VS. ![]() This match was a hard fought one, with the old rivalry between England and Ireland really coming to the fray, neither competitor willing to back down. With Jackie putting his boxing background into full effect, and Magnum employing his MMA experience, the two entered into a brutal war of attrition, each man trying their hardest to wear the other down. It was Jax who got the first big hit in, laying Jackie out with his Blue Blur (Running Single Leg Dropkick), but during the pin attempt Jackie managed to catch Jackson square in the nethers, although he managed to convince the referee it was an accident due to their positioning. Taking plenty of time to gloat, Jackie went back on the offense, employing his heavy hitting punches to keep Jackson worn down, before suddenly locking him in a Four Card Trick (Elevated Figure Four Leglock), the Irish Superman not willing to submit, fighting and inching to the ropes the whole time, before finally getting the rope break. Jackie held on right to the brink of disqualification, before finally dropping Jax back to the mat with a stomp to the very high thigh, a point he loudly pointed out to the referee as he warned him. After some more beatdown work, a smirking Jackie pulled Jackson to his feet, locking in a Single Arm Straightjacket, before whipping him out, pulling him in for the Lancaster Bomber (Wrist-Lock Short Arm Knockout Punch), only for Jackson to suddenly burst forward, surprising Jackie with a Left-Handed Superman Punch! Jackie staggered, but didn’t fall, with Magnum stepping up, hooking Jackie up before hitting him with The Last Son (Sheerdrop Sambo Suplex), hooking the leg for the pin! Jackson quickly started to celebrate as if he’d single handedly won the Six Nations, leaving Jackie on his knees shocked! Winner: ![]() MATCH SIX VS. ![]() The ANZAC Showdown, as it became known, didn’t fail to impress, as Australia’s Kai Cooper and New Zealand’s Don God took centre stage. Kai’s high flying antics were the focus of much of the match, with the Australian looking to take out his antipodean neighbour with a high risk, high impact strategy. Unfortunately for him, it really didn’t pay off, with Don God having well scouted Cooper, allowing him to keep a measure of control throughout the match. Regardless, Cooper’s relentless assault eventually started to break through, catching a few hard kicks through Don God’s guard. After stunning him with an Inverted Huracanrana, Kai had him set up for a Sit Out Shiranui, but Don spun him round, and hooked him up for a Divine DDT… but Kai blocked it! A few short blows to the ribs later, Kai managed to slip out of the Front Facelock, and connect with a Superkick! Not wanting to let the moment go to waste, Kai was quick to the top turnbuckle, launching off with a Double Rotation Moonsault, only for Don to roll clear! Kai bounced a good 3 foot in the air from the impact, and ignoring the pain pushed himself up, looking to try and stay in it, only to catch a Sole Patrol (Running Big Boot to kneeling opponent) for his trouble, allowing Don God to pick up the pin for New Zealand! Winner: ![]() MATCH SEVEN VS. ![]() OK, this match went from the aggression of the earlier Fowler/Magnum contest into new realms of hatred. The history between Mistress Vivi and Christian Kane’s wife, the retired wrestler formerly known as Venus, was known to many, and Christian was more than happy to fight for his wife’s honor. The two got into it hard, throwing all real resemblance to a wrestling match out the window early as they just laid into each other with unrepentant savagery. It went back and forth throughout. For every Leap Of Faith (Diving Somersault Front Dropkick) or Creole Surprise (Leapfrog One Handed Facecrusher) from Vivi, there was a Springboard Roundhouse Kick, or Running Single Leg High Knee from Christian. The match went on long, growing teasingly close to the 15 minute time limit, when Vivienne managed to level Christian with a Reminder (High-Impact Running Clothesline). She was quick to vault up to the top turnbuckle, waiting for Christian to begin to stand before launching off with a Curse of the Priestess (180° Twisting Diving Crossbody), only to be surprised as Kane caught her, reversing the dive into a Reverse STO before locking on a Koji Clutch! Kane held on, but Vivi refused to tap. Eventually, Kane was forced to release the hold, rolling backwards before dragging an exhausted Vivi up. Hooking her up, he planted her with a Malmö Driver ‘85 (Double Underhook Brainbuster), pinning her using a healthy handful of tights as a safety net. Winner: ![]() MAIN EVENT VS. ![]() The big match of the night had the crowd on their feet before it even started. With the crowd evenly drawn between the American and Dominican representatives there was very little in it as the two world class names came head to head. Aurora’s Technical/High Flying hybrid style boasted several similarities to Emilio’s Lucha Libre, giving the crowd a fantastic exhibition as the action went back and forth. Emilio was the early aggressor, Springboard Moonsault Inverted DDTs, Pele Kicks, and Jumping Reverse Bulldogs all coming into play, but the Queen of the Crossroads would not be denied, successfully fighting her way out of every pinning predicament. Emilio refused to be blocked, however, and just kept up his ruthless assault, until a Running High Knee, targeted at a cornered Aurora, went awry, her moving at the last moment, and he driving his knee hard into the ring post. The DDT Mistress was quick to take advantage, looking to quickly make up any lost ground. A Bicycle Kick, to infamous homage to her husband, saw Emilio shook, whilst a To-Be-Named (Flowing DDT) saw him dropped, but only for 1 and a half. She quickly followed that up with a Haunted Revolution (Split-Legged Corkscrew Moonsault), but that only got her an extra second. As she continued to work El Serpiente down, her growing frustration became apparent, so it was no great surprise when Emilio wrested back control, managing to land his deadly Vibora Strike (Sitout Brainbuster), but only getting a 2 count, to the collective confusion of the room. Emilio continued to work her down, looking to put her away, but all to no joy. A German Suplex attempt at the end of a combo almost ended in tragedy for Emilio, as Aurora first stamped on his toes to get him to loosen his grip, before using her proximity to the ropes to use them to launch herself up for a Ghostly Kiss (Rope-Assisted Shiranui), only for Emilio to push her up and off of him at her apex, sending her into a backflip she only just managed to land from, but she landed awkwardly, heavily on her left leg. Emilio was quick to strike, and before she could recover he planted her with a second Vibora Strike (Sitout Brainbuster), this one managing to get him the three! Winner: ![]() |
