DATE HELD: June 15th, 2017 on EVOLVE Network LOCATION: Aberdeen Pavilion in Ottawa, Canada COMMENTATORS: Laurel Anne Hardy, Winston Robinson MATCH ONE VS. ![]() Regardless of a clear foot difference in height, the savage Finn didn’t back down from the sinister Netherlander in the slightest. Straight off the bat, Kulo attempted to use her sexuality to manipulate RUUD, coupling in her size to have the bearded brute go easy on her. It did not work. Kulo found herself, for the most part, putting her speed and agility to work to try and avoid the worst of RUUD’s strikes, the savage Dutchman if anything further incensed by her blatant attempts to manipulate him. Knees, Elbows, Kicks, all rained down on the Finn who, to her credit, managed to avoid the worst, managing to get in some good licks of her own. She eventually managed to catch RUUD by the ropes with a Low Superkick, straight to the knee, dropping him to her level, following straight up with a Front Dropkick, sending him reeling out of the ring, allowing her time to recover. As RUUD got up, the crowd gasped as Kulo’s minion, the diminutive Autumn, made it’s presence known, running out from under the ring apron. Successfully controlling the referee by having him double check her gear was fully zipped (which it totally was), she diverted his attention as the large headed freak ducked it’s head and charged, battering ram style, aiming for the rising RUUD… only to find itself totally obliterated as RUUD spun into it with a Rolling Superkick! He rolled straight back in and attacked Kulo, the Finn not expecting him to return so soon, locking her up from behind before taking her over with a Snake Eater (Cobra Clutch Suplex)! Not satisfied with thing, RUUD rolled over, bundled Kulo up, and drove her hard into the mat with a Faustian Bargain (Package Piledriver) for the decisive victory, Winner: ![]() MATCH TWO VS. ![]() The Brazilian Joanna was quick on the attack, a fact that suited the Russian representative, Vera, just fine. She allowed Joanna to do all the leg work, letting her come to her, and employing timed strikes and counters to devastating effect, looking to wear the Jungle Girl down. Joanna’s stamina proved to be her greatest asset though, as she took a heavy beating but still kept on getting to her feet. She weathered The Red Scare (Cross-Legged Fisherman Buster), a Hope Floats (Straightjacket Double Knee Backbreaker), and even the deadly Butterfly Kisses (Avalanche Frankensteiner), but Joanna still refused to allow the Russian the fall. Gradually, in the face of such frustrations, Kozlov began to waiver, getting more and more desperate in her attacks. Sensing that desperation, Joanna launched an all or nothing counter attack. Hunting Vera around the ring, Joanna unleashed some of the biggest moves in her arsenal, including the Amazon Assault (Back Handspring Kick) and the Tree Dive (Diving Headbutt), all designed to further frustrate Vera. Vera’s attacks became wild, sloppy, allowing Joanna to counter a wild Haymaker with The Huntress Strikes (Kimura Lock)! Vera, quickly knowing from her own expertise the predicament she was in, and realising she was nowhere near the ropes, quickly tapped out, giving Brazil the fall! Winner: ![]() MATCH THREE VS. ![]() Two excellent hybrid wrestlers going toe to toe certainly tickled the Canadian crowd’s fancy, the more experience Mitsuyoshi certainly guiding the flow of the match, certainly in the opening moments, showing her expertise by effectively using Stahl’s superior size against him, employing a wonderful showcase of suplexes as she greeted the Icelander to Suplex-shi, putting in the exclamation with the Bishamon Star Stomp (Moonsault Double Foot Stomp), but only managing to get a two. Gunnar did manage to build up some momentum on the fightback, giving Suzume a sneak peak at his devastating arsenal of Elbows, Knees and other assorted strikes, rattling her with an Icelandic Storm (Repeated Rolling Kesagiri Chops followed with a Jumping Muay Thai Knee Strike) that landed her flat on her ass, and following it with a Slap Shot (Running Kick) that laid her out flat, but only for a two count. Frustrated, Gunnar lifted her up, lifting her high with a Stahling Time (Stalling Brainbuster), only to be surprised as she swung herself forward, bringing her feet round to land him with a Swinging Front Dropkick, square in the chest! Gunnar staggered back into the ropes, but used them to power his return, but the CCP Television champion was ready for him, using his own momentum to catch him over her shoulders in a Fireman’s Carry, before popping him up and falling back, catching him with a Kiri-Sute Gomen (Fireman’s Carry Double Knee Gutbuster), before rolling him up in a cradle for the pin! Winner: ![]() MATCH FOUR VS. ![]() The mirror of the previous night’s “ANZAC Challenge”, the Battle of the Romance Nations was an entirely different affair. Spain’s Angela Jameson, the Fallen Angel herself, showed no sign of intimidation as she came up against the reportedly insane Hunter In White, France’s Tsurugi Kanemoto. She certainly showed no sign of any intimidation as she launched herself into the attack, putting Kanemoto onto the back foot from the off. This, however, is known to be Tsurugi’s wheelhouse, and the Hunter expertly dodged her blows, keeping himself one step ahead, at least until Angela surprised him with an End Of Days (Standing Butterfly to Butterfly Suplex), earning herself a failed pin, and Tsurugi some time staring up at the arena lights. Angela looked to press her advantage, but an Axe Kick from the Hunter rattled her, and provided the opening Tsurugi needed to attack. A blistering combo of punches and kicks later, he caught Angela with a High Knee, knocking her back into the referee, knocking the official down. Tsurugi wasted no time in slipping behind her, and took her down with a Hanged Man (Low Blow to Backslide). The referee recovered after a moment or two to count the pin, but the delay in him being roused allowed her a kick out at 1. Tsurugi looked to capitalise, but Angela was not in a giving mood. Jameson came back heavier than before, taking Tsurugi visibly by surprise. The Frenchman crumbled under her offense, elbows rattling him, and a Downward Spiral (Over-the-Shoulder Belly-to-Belly Piledriver) almost putting him away, but somehow he got the shoulder up! Sensing blood in the water, Angela was like a shark, forcing back to the ropes with her relentless strikes. A stiff headbutt rattled him, and she took a step back, spinning in with a Discus Elbow Smash… UNRESTRAINED CONFIDENCE (Roundhouse Kick)! Tsurugi connects with the big kick, catching Angela in the temple, and she drops, shocked. Tsurugi went for the pin, and took full advantage of the referee’s blindspot to use the ropes to his advantage, and pick up the pin! Winner: ![]() MATCH FIVE VS. ![]() Li Chen, eager to impress her hometown crowd, was the aggressor throughout the match, and it was inarguable that the crowd was behind her. The former Coyote look to take advantage of whatever residual ring rust Justice was suffering from, putting her speed and technical ability to use, Slingshot DDTs and Diving Huracanranas hitting as she outpaced Gwen, but it wasn’t enough to put her away. Li Chen became more aggressive as the match went on, and unfortunately for her it was this that Gwen used to get her own offense in, started by her reversing a Tilt-a-Whirl into an Old Fashioned (Side Walk Slam). As Gwen went on the offensive, Li still fought back, trying to disarm Justice as she went on, but not to much success. Gwen showed she had her own touch of speed, hitting a Moscow Mule (Tornado DDT), before looking to bring the pace down to a more comfortable speed with a Screwdriver (Figure Four Leglock). Gwen but the tension on, holding it for a long while, but Li, in front of her hometown crowd, refused to submit. Justice eventually got bored of the hold, and broke it, leaning in and bringing forearms and fists into the equation. Dragging Li up, driving a knee to her gut, she hauled her up for her Gwinhuman (Powerbomb to Jacknife Pin), but at the apex Li started barreling out the forearms, forcing Gwen’s grip to lessen, before spinning round with a Headscissors Takedown, sending her across the ring. Li Chen rolled to her feet, a sprinter’s position, slashing across her throat with her thumb before she started the charge. Gwen also got to her feet quick, not wanting to be out of action too long, to give her opponent back the advantage, but she was disoriented, and staggered around straight into a Thunderbolt (Front Flip DDT)! Li Chen hooked the leg, and got the 1, 2, 3 to the delight of her local crowd! Winner: ![]() MATCH SIX VS. ![]() The crowd was torn between the two popular starlets presented to them in this match. Both girls showed experience beyond their ages, a side effect to each effectively having been born into the industry, but it was maybe Anastasia’s circus background that gave her an edge in the opening, as she cartwheeled and whirled around the ring. Aspects of both her mother and her uncle were present, the technical brilliance of the first flavoured with the aggression of the second. Her strikes hit with an impact greater than her frail form, clearly rocking Ai’s equally frail form, kicks coming in from every possible angle, peppered with devastating strikes like her Springboard Polish Hammer, or her Our Lady Peace (Spinning Bicycle Kick). With Ai rocked, Ana continued her assault, channeling the spirit of the Lasiewicz’s to push her advantage. Ana picked up some near falls after her Big Top Blockbuster (Running Somersault Neckbreaker), and her Merovingian Crucifix (Crucifix Choke), but Ai refused to be put away. Ana continued to dance about her, going for her Spinning Bird Kick (Spinning Handstand Capoeira Kick), but Ai ducked it, and used the opportunity to catch Anastasia with a Stardust Slam (Standing Fireman’s Carry Takeover), stopping her momentum dead! Ai wasn’t quick to take advantage though, Starling’s assault having taken it’s toll. Starling managed to dodge a Gamma Ray Burst (Running Bicycle Kick), catching Ai with a Back Elbow in a process, but was unable to avoid a Battlegrounds Uppercut (Head Hold European Uppercut), staggering Ana enough for her to lock on a Kawaii Choke (Rear Naked Choke), but Starling was quick to grab the ropes. Anastasia fought back hard, a blistering assault of Huracanranas and Leg Drop Bulldogs, putting Ai on the back foot, with Ana catching her with a Pale Winged Passerine (Handspring Stunner), before heading straight up to the top rope. After posing a moment for the crowd, Starling launched off with her Songbird’s Flight (Corkscrew 450° splash), only for Ai to get her knees up! Ana ricocheted off, holding at her gut, not going down. Ai was slow to her feet, but got up groggily, and caught the still hurting Anastasia with The Joshiplex (Olympic Slam)! She bridged the pinfall, and managed to get the upset victory, largely to the shock of the crowd given Anastasia’s dominance throughout. Winner: ![]() MATCH SEVEN VS. ![]() Even with Molly’s choice to obtain Dominican citizenship to enter the tournament, the Canadian crowd were firmly in her corner, despite a pocket of very dedicated Takata fans loudly cheering on the Space Princess. Molly worked off the crowd, using their energy to help her establish early dominance, using high speed elbows, punches and knees, even springboarding off of the ropes, to open up the attack. Andi fought back as much as she could, but couldn’t resist a That’s Using Your Face! (Double Knee Facebreaker), Molly going for an early pin, but to no success. Reid took a moment to showboat for the crowd, but Andi was quick to get into the gap, letting loose with a hail of kicks of her own. Not to be outdone, Andi also made good use of the ropes, springboarding, even diving off the turnbuckle, to keep Molly on the back foot, culminating the assault with a hard Rounhouse to the thigh, dropping Molly to a knee, before following up with a Shining Star (Step-Up Knee Strike), going for her own pin attempt, but only to be denied as well. Andi looked to follow up with a running version of The Shooting Star (Shooting Star Press), but Reid rolled clear, before catching Andi with a Soccer Kick to the cheek! Molly continued to work over Andi, using Huracanranas and Headscissor Takedowns to keep her down. A Handspring Pele Kick saw Andi staggered backwards, letting Molly follow up with a Get Down! (Flying Crossbody). Molly rolled straight to her feet, with Andi quickly popping up herself, only to get caught with a Stay Down! (Flying Superman Punch). Molly bent down to pick Andi up, only to find herself caught up in a Katamari Roll (Rolling Death Cradle), only for Reid to kick out! Molly got to her feet, still dizzy, allowing Andi to get up behind her and lock her in a Caramellnelson (Swinging Full Nelson), puppeteering Molly through the dance to her abject humiliation. Not able to work her way free, Molly then found herself pulled up and over with the Caramellplexin’ (Full Nelson Suplex), which Andi bridged… but only for a two! Andi was quick to her feet, looking to finish things. She started to pull Molly up, but the cries from her portion of the crowd of “UP TOP UP TOP” and “LOVE LOVE LOVE” proved too much her Takata to resist, With a smile, Andi climbed up the turnbuckle, posing for the crowd a good few moments. This showboating meant Molly Reid could get to her feet, with a bit of a wobble, but this didn’t deter Andi as she launched launched herself skywards with a L.O.V.E (Diving Corkscrew Crossbody)... STRAIGHT INTO A MOLLY KICK (Superkick). The sound of the impact echoed around the arena, and Molly slumped down on top of the barely conscious Andi, getting the three to the cheers of the crowd. Winner: ![]() MAIN EVENT VS. ![]() With the crowd firmly behind the Canadian representative, Damian K’, it was safe to say that even the famously vocal Boaz Kennedy was a touch intimidated, not only by their cries but also the prospect of fighting one of the legendary Kaisers. The Godslaying Beast gave his less experienced foe no quarter, throwing him from pillar to post with little to no consideration for his well being. Boaz chose this point to try and counteract the silent assault of Damian with his own verbal assault, looking to get under Kaiser’s skin with his words, but this had the opposite effect to the desired one, not putting Damian off of his game, but only increasing the ferocity of his attacks. Boaz even employed his signature finger gun, but all that did was have Damian respond with a “the gun”, a reflection of the taunt his father, Leon Kaiser, was famous for using to signify that all brakes were off. Soon after, K’ hit a particularly fierce Snap Powerbomb that echoed throughout the pavilion… but Damian didn’t try for the pinfall. That feeling continued, with the First Son of the Kaiser Dynasty exerting his dominance on the impertinent Syrian representative. Boaz managed to get in a few shots, a Diving Reverse STO here, a European Uppercut there, but none of it was sufficient to break Damian’s stride. Boaz even got in a burst of offence at one point, landing a storm of strikes, but his attempt to finish the combo with a Discus Clothesline was interrupted by Damian catching him mid-spin with a Falling Neckbreaker, before running the ropes and catching the rising RISE Great Lakes champion with Das Boot (Running Arched Big Boot)! Shortly after this, went to the outside to recover. Damian was quick to pursue him, but Boaz fled, leading Damian on a chase around the ring. Boaz slid in, running the ropes straight off, and catching Damian as he slid in with a Double Foot Stomp! Knowing he couldn’t let the opportunity go to waste, driving in stomps and kicks to the slowly rising Damian. Boaz quickly hooked Damian up in a Hammerlock, keeping K’ bound in place as he transitioned from lock to lock, giving himself both breathing and thinking time, whilst keeping away from Damian’s powerful arms. After keeping him tied up, Boaz tries to transition to an Inverted Headlock Takeover, but it’s blocked successfully, only for Boaz to switch it up and hit a Zero Tolerance (Michinoku Driver II-B), hooking Damian’s leg, but only getting a two count! Damian quickly gets to his feet, a slight smile on his face as Boaz shrugs off the sign of respect with wry smile of his own. They tied up again, but Damian’s strength came back into play, allowing him to manhandle Boaz through a series of hooks and holds of his own, before picking him up and slamming him down with the Kingdom Come (Double Pumphandle High-Angle Powerbomb)! Still not going for the pin, Damian rests against the ropes, waiting for Boaz to stand… before tearing forward with a Death Dealer (Running Lariat)... but Boaz ducked it! Damian hit the ropes, coming back looking for another Death Dealer (Running Lariat), but Boaz luckily ducked again! Damian slammed on the brakes, spinning around… straight into a BANGerang (Pop-Up Knee Strike to opponent’s head)! Damian drops, and Boaz locks him in a Jackknife Pin, just getting the three count before Damian’s shoulder flies up! In the aftermath, the crowd boos the loss, but a silent gesture from Damian quiets them, before he nods to Boaz, and leaves the ring. Winner: ![]() |
