MATCH ONE: WORLD CUP REDUX
Joanna the Jungle Girl VS. Vicente Morales

This South American showcase bout was fast paced, as Brazil’s Joanna was quick off the blocks looking to take it to Colombia’s Vicente Morales. Morales had muscle on his side, however, and managed to counter most of Joanna’s high speed attacks with heavy slams. Slowing the match down to his pace, he started to loudly disrespect the Brazilian Jungle Girl, trying to chip away at her confidence as he also chipped away at her defences. Catching her out of the air as she went for a Crossbody, he dropped her over a knee before segueing to a Flecha del Águila (Sitout Suplex Slam), hooking the leg but only getting a 2 count.

As the match continued on, his verbal barbs and jabs slowly managed to whittle away at the Huntress’ calm, finally exploding in a rage as she surprised him with an Amazon Assault (Back Handspring Kick) off of an Irish Whip! Vicente was quick to his feet, but the savage had taken over Joanna. After building frustrations not only in this match, but also her elimination against Crystal and being betrayed at HELL y Amigos, the Apex Predator snapped, tacking Vicente off of his feet unleashing vicious stiff kicks and punches into his frame! Hauling him upright, she stunned him with a stiff headbutt, the sickening crunch of his nose caving in audible from the ringside cameras! As he yelled in pain, she slipped behing him, and took him over with a Hear Me Roar (Release Tiger Suplex) STRAIGHT INTO THE RINGPOST!

Vicente was as good as out of it, but it was enough for the predator as she dragged her prey to the centre of the ring, before locking in The Huntress Strikes (Kimura Lock)! Vicente, barely with it, quickly tapped… but Joanna kept the hold on! It was only as the referee threatened her with disqualification did he finally release the hold, delivering a final stomp to his now injured elbow for good measure, before the cheers of the crowd brought her back! She posed for them a while, doing a lap of honour giving high fives before finally leaving the arena.

MATCH TWO: WORLD CUP QUARTER FINAL
Jackson Magnum (Republic of Ireland) VS. RUUD (The Netherlands)

All pretences of this being a wrestling match went straight out of the window as the notorious RUUD went straight to work with his heavy striking game. Both men boasted a pretty even reach, but RUUD’s extra poundage give his blows the edge on impact, and although the MMA star Magnum held his ground, RUUD’s relentless assault pushed him back. Magnum did his best to shield himself from the storm of elbows, knees and kicks as they came in from all angles, managing to land to odd counter blow, but the Dutchman just powered through all of his parrys, blasting away an attempt at a Haymaker with a solid backhand, catching Jackson square in the write, before following up with a Bicycle High Knee whilst Jackson’s guard lay wide open. Jackson fell, RUUD was quick to cover, but only got a one and a half!

The pugilistic back and forth continued as the match did, Jackson foregoing any attempts to play a defensive game, and starting just retaliating blow for blow in the middle of the ring, the crowd on their feet as the two men went toe to toe just hammering the living hell out of each other, fist for fist, elbow for elbow, a relentless hail of blows raining down from both men. RUUD managed to break the flow as he countered an attempt at a Lifting Kick with an Oblique Kick, staggering Magnum back. He went straight in to follow up with a Rolling Superkick, but Magnum was already spinning, spiraling around RUUD as he twisted, connecting with the Jax-El (540 Elbow)! RUUD staggered, but didn’t fall, allowing Magnum to chase up the strike with The Blue Blur (Running Single Leg Dropkick), finally taking RUUD down to the mat! Magnum was quick to go for the pin, but RUUD caught him in a Small Package, Magnum only just managing to break out at the 2!

Magnum started to get more desperate, as RUUD apparently had an answer for anything he could throw at him. Punches got sloppy, kicks grew weary, as the Netherlander continued to refuse to concede any ground. Regardless, Magnum managed to get in a good combo of punches into RUUD’s misection, looking to finish with a Discus Clothesline… ONLY FOR RUUD TO SLIP UNDER THE ARM AND LOCK IN A COBRA CLUTCH! Magnum refused to allow the follow up Snake Eater (Cobra Clutch Suplex) however, swiftly shifting his head backwards, and catching RUUD with a Rear Headbutt! With the grip loosened, Jackson slipped out the hold, and took RUUD down with a Snapmare, followed up with a stiff Soccer Kick to the base of the spine! RUUD was quick to try to get to his feet, but kept his back to Jackson, a fact Magnum exploited as he leapt up and hit a Supes (Reverse Huracanrana) to the absolute surprise and delight of the crowd, spiking RUUD on his head. Slowly heading up top, Magnum’s mouth started running a mile a minute, delivering a tirade of abuse squarely at the fallen RUUD, before leaping off the top rope with a Man Of Tomorrow (High-Angle Frog Splash), landing square, and getting the pin!

MATCH THREE: WORLD CUP QUARTER FINAL
Crystal Alvarez (Puerto Rico) VS. Danielle Vasquez (Peru)

The Latin American showcase got off to a good start, with Danielle and Crystal shaking hands before the bout. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it was Danielle who got in the first strong offence, the Peruvian representatives legendary speed seeing her get up in Crystal’s face abruptly. Alvarez’s technical trainer stood her well, however, allowing her to not only anticipate Danielle’s rapid strikes, but also reverse them, even as Danielle started entering high speed mix ups, Crystal managing to keep her temper in check long enough to keep her focus, allowing her to frustrate Danielle, especially as she reversed an attempted Heavy Hitter (Tilt-a-Whirl DDT) into a Backbreaker! She follows up with some Forearms to Danielle’s chest whilst she stretched over her knee, before transitioning to an Elbow Drop to drive her to the mat! Crystal followed up with her Armed And Dangerous Choke (Arm Triangle Choke), but Danielle had the wherewithal to get to the ropes!

Crystal continued to work Danielle over, connecting with a series of suplexes, before going in with her KO Queen Special (3 Left Handed Jabs to Right Hook), but as she posed a second before swinging the hook, Vasquez surprised her with a Kisses (Leaping Reverse STO) out of nowhere! Danielle tried to capitalise, but Crystal was still on an adrenaline high, and managed to spin out on an attempted Swinging Neckbreaker, and lay Danielle out with a Clothesline! Crystal tried to follow up with her Lethal Strong (Elevated Boston Crab with a knee to the back), but before she could fully lock it in Danielle crawled free, grabbing the ropes! Crystal let go, her frustrations starting to get the better of her. Coming back more aggressive, swinging a savage Roundhouse Kick at Danielle’s head, only for Qoya to evade it with a Matrix! It didn’t take Danielle long to build up a head of steam, further angering Crystal as she dodged all her blows, even managing to hit a Heavy Hitter (Tilt-a-Whirl DDT) as part of a huge combo!

Crystal refused to just lay down and die, however, coming back again, blindly swinging in a rage, only to catch a Side Kick, followed up by a Springboard Huracanrana! Crystal popped up once more, visibly dazed, and with the crowd cheering the pair on, Danielle darted around the corner, running the ropes, before launching off with a Qoya (Turnbuckle Run Tornado DDT), and got the pin!

MATCH FOUR: WORLD CUP REDUX
Angela Jameson & Aurora VS. Jynx & Sophia Belmont

The team that many in the crowd labelled as being “Team Legend” definitely were more on the same page than the one they called “Team PAROUSIA”. Aurora and Angela were in sync, working together like a well oiled team. Jynx and Sophia were… the best term is probably a car crash. Sophia’s no-nonsense approach to actually wanting to wrestle a match didn’t integrate with Jynx’s desire to plait the cameraman’s beard, to start with. This lead to the AA Team getting a protracted lead over Sophia, Belmont eager and willing, but not quite able to do anything to take on the two talented ring veterans. Angela and Aurora got quite a number of fall attempts early on, but Sophia managed to kick out each time, Jynx being no help as she held a protracted conversation with Pow Pow, her stuffed gorilla.

Eventually, Jynx decided she wanted to play too, surprising Aurora with a Springboard Spinning Wheel Kick, flattening her! Sophia started to shout at Jynx, asking her what she thought she was doing, only for Jynx to boop her on the nose, before surprising her with a Lady Isabella (Meia Lua de Compasso)! The referee didn’t know how to react, as Angela hit the ring, and took it to the crazed Jynx! Vicious lefts and rights rocked the Manx wrestler, before finishing with a End Of Days (Standing Butterfly to Butterfly Suplex)!

With this, Jynx quickly rolled out of the ring, declaring she was bored, and leaving the arena. Sophia shouted at her to stop, but she’d already collected Pow Pow and was on her way out of the door. Aurora and Angela gave Sophia the chance to forfeit the match, but the Last Vampire Hunter angrily refused, catching Aurora by surprise with a Guardian Knuckle (Gazelle Punch)! As she staggered, Angela was quick on her, but Sophia backed her up with a Knee Lift! With a roar, Sophia charged the pair with a Double Lariat, but the both ducked! Sophia spun, straight into a Double Kick to the Midsection, with Angela and Aurora quickly following up with a Double DDT! Aurora stayed on for the pin, Angela already posing in victory to the crowd as the referee counted the three!

MATCH FIVE: WORLD CUP QUARTER FINAL
Christian Kane (Sweden) VS. Jay Pride (Scotland)

The bold, extravagant Kane. The taciturn, stoic Pride. Two more contrasting individuals you’d be hard pressed to find within the pool of World Cup competitors. Pride surprised many by remaining in control throughout the opening of the match, cutting through Christian’s flashy showmanship with some world class technical wrestling, a showcase of another era, as Jay focused on the fundamentals, moving Christian from Lock to Hook to Hold, flowing beautifully, before hitting a Spinning Armbreaker, and applying a Shoulder Claw to the same joint!

Christian struggled against the hold, as the Crème-de-la-Crème of Catch-as-Catch-Can put his whole weight into to the claw, bony finger tips burrowing into the muscle in Kane’s shoulder. In obvious pain, Christian fought to his feet, slowly, before managing to catch Jay with a Mule Kick to the very high thigh, getting a wince from every man present, and a warning from the ref, before landing Pride with a Snapmare, following up with a knee between the shoulder blades, and a Somersault Cutter! Now firmly in control, Kane got in some of his own technical offence, incorporating his own showboating style. Working Pride’s legs with stomps, a Stretch Legreaker and an Inverted Stomp Kneebreaker, before locking Jay up for the Canadian Maple Leaf (Haas of Pain)! Jay, realising the danger he was in, managed to twist as Henny tried to lock in the Figure Four, and surprise Christian with a Small Package! Christian was quick to break free, both men popping right up, but it’s Kane who took advantage as he burst forward and connected with a Running Single High Knee!

Feeling in control now, he didn’t bother with the pin attempt, working him over on the mat some more before pulling Jay to his feet with a smirk on his face. He gave Pride a disrespectful slap to the back of the head, before hoisting him up and drilling him with the Malmö Driver ‘85 (Double Underhook Brainbuster)! The crowd roared, but Christian still didn’t finish things. He headed up to the turnbuckles, and once up there started issuing some his favoured Chris Strike themed insults to the crowd, telling the “Favela Fucks” they don’t even deserve to see this, before turning back to the ring, bracing himself to deliver a SHOOTING STAR #HENNY (Shooting Star Senton)... only to be surprised as Jay Pride was suddenly in his face, with a Forearm! Surprised, Kane fired one back, and suddenly the two men were desperately exchanging fire on the turnbuckle! Christian looked to have the upper hand, Jay almost falling backwards at one point, until he recovered and caught Kane with a monumental European Uppercut! Kane was dazed, allowing Jay to turn around on the ropes, turning his back to Christian, before driving a Back Elbow into Henny’s gut, doubling him over! Jay picked him up over the shoulder, and stood up, on the middle ropes! The crowd drew silent as Jay took a moment to brace himself, before launching himself and Christian off the top with an Avalanche Pride Eater (Over-the-Shoulder Sitout Belly-to-Belly Piledriver), the crowd exploding as they hit the mat, a “Súbita Merda!” chant breaking out! There’s no movement from either competitor to start, until Jay flops forward, covering Kane to the thunderous applause of the audience, which only intensifies as the referee calls the three!

MAIN EVENT: WORLD CUP QUARTER FINAL
[img]Evangelista (The Philippines) VS. Suzume Mitsuyoshi (Japan)

Suzume Mitsuyoshi and Evangelista... Wow. The match between Pride and Kane had the crowd pumping, and this main event match didn’t allow them a chance to catch a breath. Evenly matched, Evangelista with the weight advantage, but Suzume with the reach, the back and forth between the two was all kinds of frantic. Holds to counter holds to strikes to reversals, it took more than 5 minutes before a clear impact was made, when Evangelista ducked a Clothesline, popping up behind Suzume and taking her over with a Bridging Hammerlock Suplex, to a roar from the crowd! Suzume quickly rolled out of the pinning predicament and charged back in, leaping over Evangelista’s attempt at a Roundhouse Legsweep to catch her with Leg Lariat! Suzume went for the lateral press to pin, but Evangelista twisted sideways, looking to lock Suzume in a Grounded Headscissors, but Mitsuyoshi got her arms in there to block, and managed to pull her head free! She quickly kipped up and spun on the ball of her foot, levelling a Roundhouse Kick at Evangelista’s head, only for her to dodge with a modified kneeling Matrix Evasion, rolling onto her hands and popping up with a Kip Up of her own.

The two shared a nod of appreciation with each other as they back off, the crowd applauding the spectacle so far. As the crowd began to cheer them on, an “Isso é Incrível” chant starting up, they came back in, hooking up Collar and Elbow. Evangelista quickly flowed straight into a Wrist Lock, before whipping the arm round into a Hammerlock! Suzume fought against the hold, looking like she was about to twist out of the lock, when Evangelista transitioned to an Inverted Facelock, releasing the Hammerlock to start raining Forearms onto Suzume’s exposed chest! The crowd counted along with Evangelista as she got up to ten, before Evangelista leapt up, wrapping her legs around Suzume’s waist, and brought her down to the mat with a Bodyscissors/Dragon Sleeper combination submission! She tried to trap Suzume’s arm, but Mitsuyoshi didn’t let her, and quickly started firing Back Elbows into Evangelista’s kidneys! It didn’t take long for the Filipina to release her grip and roll away, clutching at her side, as Suzume dragged herself up to her feet.

Not wanting to give Suzume a chance, Evangelista charged in, looking for her Pinay Legsweep (Tornado Side Russian Legsweep), but Suzume threw her off, catching her as she landed with a Superkick! Evangelista staggered, and Suzume stepped in, hoisting her up on her shoulders for a Kiri-Sute Gomen (Fireman’s Carry Double Knee Gutbuster), only for Evangelista to roll off her shoulders! Suzume was quick to spin around… straight into a Battlegrounds Uppercut (Head Hold European Uppercut)! Suzume staggered, allowing Evangelista to take advantage and land a Wrist-Clutch Exploder Suplex! Foregoing the pin, Evangelista popped up, and as Suzume sat up clutching at her back, ran the ropes, coming back, looking for a Stevie G (Running Kick to back of seated opponent’s head), but Suzume ducked forward, Evangelista’s boot hitting air! She brought the boot back for a Mule Kick, but Suzume caught it, and as she rose twisted, taking Evangelista down with a Reverse Dragon Screw! She followed up, dragging Evangelista straight back up, before landing her down on the mat with a Lifting Reverse DDT! Not wasting a moment, she was straight up the corner post, posing just a second before leaping off with a Bishamon Star Stomp (Moonsault Double Foot Stomp), ONLY FOR EVANGELISTA TO ROLL CLEAR! Suzume landed on both feet hard, the impact shooting up her shins, causing her to stumble. Evangelista was quick in, and lifted Suzume up for a Headbreaker (Uranage dropped to a knee to the back of the opponent’s head), ONLY FOR SUZUME TO SPIN OUT OF IT! Evangelista turned, right into a Rolling Sole Butt to the midsection! Doubled up, she wasn’t able to resist as Suzume slipped under her, lifting her up in a Fireman’s Carry, before segueing seamlessly into the Kiri-Sute Gomen (Fireman’s Carry Double Knee Gutbuster)! Turning Evangelista over, Suzume wearily climbed on top… and got the três! After the match, Evangelista lifted Suzume’s hand the two sharing a hug in the ring before Leanne left Suzume to celebrate her win, and entry into the semi-finals.
