The apartment complex’s sparkling pool area was empty at two in the morning on a Thursday night. The area plunged into almost total darkness but it provides great cover for the two young women climbing the fence that surrounds the oasis.

Lux Forté drops to the ground first, a towel slung around her neck, and turns to help Annie Zellor down. Lux surreptitiously checks out their surroundings to make sure they’re alone while Annie pops their Bluetooth speaker onto a nearby pool chair and fiddles with their playlist. She’s been bumping The Heavy a lot lately, especially whilst doing her MMA training; something about the Brit rock band just puts her in the mood to hit things. But not tonight. ‘What Makes A Good Man?’ starts playing quietly, so as to not attract any attention, as Annie stands back up.

“Hey, Mr Zemeckis!” Annie chirps, waving at their elderly neighbor as he walks past. His eyes widen for a moment as he stands there slack jawed, before shuffling away back towards his apartment. Annie can’t help but giggle as she eases herself into the pool, letting the cool crystal clear water splash up at her bare torso.

“You’re gonna fuckin’ give that man a stroke,” Lux teases as she wiggles out of her cut off jean shorts and tosses them onto a pool chair. Annie shrugs her shoulders, wondering whether or not to make the obvious joke. But she resists the urge.

Taking a running leap, Lux cannonballs into the deep end of the pool, the water a cool shock on her bare skin. After a few seconds, she resurfaces and slicks back her blonde hair.

The low lighting catches on the barbells through her nipples before she dives back under the water to resurface closer to Annie who is wading in the shallow end.

“I’m not finna end up on a sex offender registry with you, Anners from Bannanners,” she giggles. But the night is calm and late and it’s unlikely anyone else would be wandering past to witness the two girls skinny dipping.

“They’re just boobs,” Annie jokes, covering her own with her hands as she makes a honking sound in jest. “Nothing he hasn’t seen, like, probably a thousand times before. Except maybe he’s never seen the boobs of the next Union GP Cruiserweight Champion before…” she says before giggling again.

Lux throws her head back with a laugh as she splashed Annie with water. “Yeah, guess we’re just lucky I didn’t have me shirt off yet. Then he would have had a stroke,” the blonde teased.

Treading water, Lux pushed herself back into the deep end as Annie followed her. Pausing for a moment, Annie looked to her sister-in-law with a sense of bemusement etched on her face. “Hey,” she whines, finally getting the gist of Lux’s joke, “the cage ain’t gonna be like the mean streets, you can’t just go breaking arms in three places, you know.”

The jab doesn’t go unnoticed as Lux just shakes her head; the pair of them both know that Carolina had it coming when she brought a bat with her to an already two-on-one situation. Their only regret in the whole thing is that it wasn’t Bianca who ended up in the hospital that night.

A steady breaststroke allowed Annie to finally reach the deep end, where Lux is waiting with her arms outstretched across the concrete slabs that make up the edge of the pool.

Lux tips her head back, the moonlight catching the planes of her face as a smile tugs at one corner of her full lips. “I legit love this place though… it’s been a long ass time since I’ve actually called something home.”

She shifts her attention back to Annie as she smirks, “And technically I can break arms in the cage. I meannnn… I’ve suddenly got a reputation to uphold and shit.”

“Just not mine then...sis,” Annie winks at her friend, and they both laugh, knowingly, for theirs is hardly a sisterly relationship anymore. Not since Lux came back to the States, not since her and Skylynn rocked up into Annie and Dom’s inner circle, where they’ve been wreaking destruction ever since. But neither Annie nor Dom blame Lux for those problems; it was Nick who faked the divorce, it was Venus who stole her fuckbuddy and got possessive, and it was Carolina and Bianca who challenged her to that street fight. “One day you’ve gotta tell me all about your travels though,” Annie almost begs, “I feel like I missed so much while you were gone.”

Lux laughed as she dunked under the water and let herself bob back up to the surface. “You just wanna hear about the hot Brazilians I hooked up with,” she teased with a wink.

Dragging her wet hair out of her face, Lux smiled, “Nah, but for real? It was mostly just me hiking and going to festivals and markets and shit. I got to learn about my mom’s family which was pretty cool… meet some cousins. It’s sooo fucking gorgeous over there. You’ve gotta go back with me one day.”

The blonde’s lips curved into a smile, “Coming back hasn’t been terrible though.”

“Psh, it better not have been,” Annie jokes before winking at Lux, “we’ve had some fun, we’re starting new careers, and you’ve got yourself a new boyfriend…” the word resonates with Lux, whose smile grows wider at the mere mention of Jason Jackson. Even then Annie’s happy for her friend; it’s not that she disliked Nick, he’s always been a close friend, although the two have drifted apart since Annie split up with Chase last year.

That divorce wasn’t particular amicable either, and would’ve put the drama of Nick and Lux’s to shame if it hadn’t all been handled in the lawyer’s office. Nothing a ton of alimony and an NDA won’t take care off though. Whatever it takes to allow Annie and Dom to live their happily ever after.

“...you homewrecker.” Annie jokes, before Lux dunks her under water. Her hand placed firmly on top of Annie’s head as she submerges the brunette for a couple of seconds. Her legs and arms flailing until Lux finally lets go, and Annie bursts back above the water’s surface, squirting a mouthful of pool water right into Lux’s face.

Lux laughs as she swipes at her face with wet hands. “That wasn’t homewrecking, girl. That was a fucking rescue mission.”

The truth was… “I seriously felt bad about it,” Lux admitted. “But fuckkkk me, I couldn’t leave that man alone if my life had depended on it. Iono why…”

“You really like him, huh?” asks Annie as she wipes the water from her eyes. She has to stop treading water and move towards the edge of the pool, one hand clutching the concrete to keep herself afloat as she sidles up next to Lux.

Even in the moonlight, Lux can’t hide the blush that creeps over her golden tan cheeks. “...I know this sounds stupid but fuck my life, Annie. I love this dude for real. Like logically I get that it makes no sense but… iono, girl. He’s like Luxxy kryptonite. I can’t keep my hands off of him and I barely know him but…” Lux shrugs, her blush intensifying. Annie just floats there next to her friend, smiling to herself as she listens to Lux tell her story.

Lux isn’t completely oblivious… she realized that things with Jason were moving at the speed of a runaway train. But it was like he set her whole soul on fire. He made her feel reckless and crazy and bulletproof and… happier than she’d ever been.

Things were burning hot and bright and sure, this might all blow up in her face but she couldn’t stop… “I know the feeling,” Lux’s inner monologue is interrupted by the chirpy voice as she turns to look towards Annie again. The brunette’s smile waning somewhat as she presses forward, “It’s just...I get he makes you happy and all...but, like, how well do we really know him?” the question had to be asked, and maybe there could’ve been a better time for this conversation than a late night skinny dipping session. But there’s also worse times.

“‘Cause I don’t wanna see you get hurt again, Lux,” Annie states, her voice going deeper than usual for a moment. The smile gone from her face as she bites her bottom lip, “not after what happened with you and Nick, and Sky. And all that stuff…” she says, referring to the overdose attempt, “...are you happy?”

Lux bites her lip, her smile dimming a little. “I know it doesn’t make sense,” she conceded. “And I… I don’t wanna get hurt again either, y’know? I get that we don’t know him that well yet but fuckkk,” Lux tilted her head back to stare up at the stars for a minute.

Between the two of them, Annie had always been the most logical and practical. Lux was the reckless dreamer who followed her heart even when it lead her right off of a cliff.

But she appreciated Annie’s steadiness and practicality. Could acknowledge that she might even be right. Lux could be setting herself up for a train wreck of epic proportions.

“I’m really happy, Annie. Like not just Jase but a huge part of it is him but I mean… I feel better than I have in a long time. Less… shit in my head fucking me up. I went to that party in the desert and I could drink with you guys without crazy drunk Lux doing too much or…”

She casts Annie a meaningful look, neither wanting to bring up the love of cocaine she’d brought back from Brazil either.

“Things just… they feel right.”

The smiles return to their faces as Annie leans in to give her friend a quick kiss on the cheek. Lux blushes again as Annie wraps her arms around her, shifting her position to be able to give Lux a hug. Their chins resting on each other’s shoulders as Annie speaks up. “Well if you’re happy then I’m happy, sis…” but she grunts in pain, cutting herself off mid-thought. “...ow, ow, ow. I think our bars are tangled…”

“Owwww!” Lux howled as Annie whimpers, fumbling between them to try to unhook the piercings. “Never hug me again! Maybe just give me high fives for the rest of our lives!”

Lux grimaces as she holds herself still while Annie frees the barbells. Wincing, the blonde peeks at her piercing to make sure that everything is still where it’s supposed to be.

“Only high fives forever,” Lux says as she playfully swims a short distance from Annie and her dangerous piercings. Shaking her head in dismay, Annie just pouts at her friend across the pool, trying to think of something to say. Fortunately she’s saved from that, as Lux speaks up again.

“Soooo… I didn’t wanna bring this up around Dominicus because I know it’s awkward buuuut… you said you guys had your final court date with his baby moms a few months ago and then you didn’t say anything else? You good?”

“Uhh,” Annie murmurs, wincing at the mention of Tatum. It’s sore subject for Annie, not because Tatum is Dom’s baby momma, but because of the way she feels used by Tatum; she knew Annie was friends with Dom, and used that knowledge to have Annie set up a meeting between the two. That’s when Tatum told him about their four year old daughter - the same daughter that Annie had spent weeks fawning over on Twitter, and calling her the cutest kid she’s ever seen...only for her to turn out to be Dom’s daughter.

That hurt.

That felt like a knife in the back, and now Tatum’s back on the scene it just feels like that knife has been twisted. Seeing her talk all kinds of shit about Dom on Twitter, trying to drag his name through the dirt because he doesn’t want to see Ina. After Tatum kept her from him for four years?!

“We’re ok. Like, he’s never met Ina, and he doesn’t know anything about her so he’s…” she sighs, “...he’s kinda ok with just not having anything to do with her. ‘Cause that means he doesn’t have anything to do with Tatum either.” Annie paused as she reached the shallow end of the pool, standing upright with the water up to her ribs. She pushed her hair back over her shoulders as she continued. “But, like, we know he’s the dad, and he’s paying the child support so nobody can accuse him of being a deadbeat anymore--” she shrugs; Annie just feels helpless about the whole situation, knowing she can’t accuse Tatum of playing her against Dom - their relationship wasn’t public at the time. She can’t really push Dom into something he doesn’t want to do. And she knows there’s a good chance they’ll start their own family at some point in the future, so do they really want his illegitimate daughter hanging around?

“But, uh, he doesn’t wanna see her. And...I think...I’m ok with that?” her inflection makes it seem as if she’s asking a question.

Lux bites her lip, “I mean, I see it from both sides, y’know? Y’all didn’t make the choice to have this kid but… at the same time, Ina didn’t ask for this either?”

She ducks down under the water and swims a few feet before turning back and facing Annie again. “I don’t think there’s really a right or wrong here. Like shit got messy… and y’all are dealing with it… but if it helps, I’ve met Jase’s son Eli and he’s amazing. Like I legit think that kid is the best thing in the world. If he ever does meet Ina, maybe… I don’t know. Maybe that wouldn’t be so bad? She’s half Dom, after all.”

She shrugs, giving Annie a reassuring look to let her know that no matter what they choose, she’d back them both one hundred percent.

“I mean, I might be biased. Have you seen Eli’s chubby little cheeks???”

Lux expertly dodges the fact that she might click as well as she does with Eli because he’s the same age her son or daughter with Nick would have been if she hadn’t miscarried.

“Sooo… I mean, do you want me to break baby moms’ arm or nah?” she teased to lighten the mood.

“Nahhh,” Annie draws the word out as she wades towards Lux again, resting her head on Lux’s shoulder. “Well, not until your probation’s over anyway.” She jokes, and they both laugh
