FAVORITES CHARACTERS Ada Wong • Steve Burnside • Claire Redfield • Rebecca Chambers • Leon S. Kennedy • Moira Burton • Jill Valentine • Albert Wesker • Barry Burton PAIRINGS Leon S. Kennedy ❤ Ada Wong • Steve Burnside ❤ Claire Redfield • Billy Coen ❤ Rebecca Chambers • Albert Wesker ❤ Jill Valentine • Ada Wong ❤ Claire Redfield TITLES Resident Evil: Code Veronica • Resident Evil 3 • Resident Evil Remake • Resident Evil 4 MONSTERS Nemisis • Queen Alexia • Neptune • Crimson Heads • Hunters • Cerberus GAME TRACKS Mansion First Floor • A Moment of Relief • Free From Fear • Ada's Theme • Lachrymal • The Suspended Doll • City of Ruin • Secure Place • Resident Evil: Outbreak Theme PERSONAL INPUT I do miss the older game style of the series, but I wouldn't mind the new style as much if they'd stick with their already useful cast. I wouldn't mind a new character every-once-in-a-while, but they introduce characters and then they disappear: Billy Coen, Carlos Olivera, Jessica Sherawat, Manuela Hidalgo, and others. Capcom doesn't capitalize on decent story opportunities as they should, like exposing what Ada Wong is really about and having that lead us even deeper into the Umbrella/The Family/Wesker Project/Corporation S conspiracy. I'm really tired of it just being another biohazard every game or CGI movie. Details would be nice. Another personal annoyance is how Capcom never brought Steve Burnside back. I'm a huge fan of his character, but that was not be the only reason I'd have wanted him back. He could have made a good villain turned anti-villain. The same could have been said about Sherry. Squandered potential. Even a character like Carla Radames could have been an excellent addition to the franchise had they not reduced her to a 2-dimensional trope. Because I'm a sucker for romance, I want a Leon/Ada smooch scene again. Those idiots are too precious and they deserve it. I also felt like the promising story line for Claire/Steve was wasted, too. Lastly, though I don't ship it much, Chris/Jill should have been formally established in the games for its fans. Capcom has teased about them for years. I played the Demo for the Resident Evil 7 it looks like they have learned a lot from the horror games like outlast. It is interesting to note that it's Resident Evil 7: Biohazard so it has the name from Japan "Biohazard" and the America in the title. I think that might have an interesting plot point and may be telling that they are embracing the Japanese origin of it more than it did before. we'll have to see if they settled the pacing issues. i hope they strike the balance between letting your mind do the work and not go back to the constant action meant to keep you occupied. I hope they also learned that sometimes one enemy is far scarier than being overwhelmed by a horde. Detail with that one, fighting a horde doesn't give you time to focus on any one enemy, but if it's just one or two even three you have far more time to realize just what you are dealing with/fighting/running from. I think the pacing from the very first game was excellent and Resident Evil 2 the same plus it had the benefit of having two perspectives which altered depending on who you played as first (probably i think the best contribution to the game for replay since you technically had 4 games in one which combined to two distinct stories). The tragedy has been the game going more and more arcade and less and less survival horror but given the demo to 7 it looks like they learned a bit from Silent Hill in terms of combat knowledge of the characters. The First person perspective might help the story by making it more personal it is a change from before but it just might be the change the series has needed. |

So, confession time: because I remembered how much you loved this game franchise, Sy, I decided about a year ago to purchase the 4th game (I think it was the 4th? I'll have to check now) off the PSN just to try it out, and while I enjoyed it, it was so... different, from what I expected, that I had a hard time sticking to it and finishing it. Like, getting into the storyline, it just seemed so different from what I'd heard about it and what I'd assumed about it which really threw me. I might try and go back and finish it at some point when I finish some of my other games, I had started there because I heard it was a decent point to start if you wanted to kind of follow the storyline. Would you agree with that or do you think I should have started elsewhere? (It's possible this may just have to be a game I watch someone else play online, LOL. I'm terrible at 1st person shooters.) |

IRIS Graphics-wise, 4 was an okay start, but story-wise, you really jumped to the middle of the story with that game. With old games, the graphics aren't as sharp and much more pixelated, but you get a better grasp of the RE-universe and how the virus started, how it works, why things happened with Leon and Ada how they did, etc. My friend is an avid gamer and Resident Evil fan. He suggests starting with Resident Evil 1 Director's Cut, the very first game. I agree for the sake of learning how to play with tank controls and fixed camera angels and not have the game be extremely hard. With RE4, you're already used to using the analog stick, I'm guessing. Older games in the franchise use only tank controls. For me, the best game for story is Resident Evil: Code Veronica (CV) and Resident Evil 3. I love CV so much~ ;u; Resident Evil 3 is nicely paced and has excellent bosses. I also love its music along with the CV soundtrack. I've listed Resident Evil Remake and Resident Evil 0 later on in the list because of the jump in graphics. ORDER SUGGESTED Resident Evil Director's Cut (1996) Resident Evil 2 (1998) Resident Evil 3 (1999) Resident Evil: CV (2000) Resident Evil Remake (2002) Resident Evil 0 (2002) GOOD LINKS FOR STORY INFO Resident Evil Timeline Albert Wesker History
SINJUN I'm hearing a lot of decent developments for RE7. I'm still on the fence about the game. I likely will be until it comes out and everyone starts playing it, because I'm not too fond of all these new characters. I like development of characters already established in the story. I am interested in the game, though. Ditto. I like that they are going to have lesser enemies that are (from what they say) more memorable instead of a gigantic horde to mow down with machine guns. I completely agree. I'm still not too keen on FFP, though, but if the story is decent (preferably quite good) and the characters help to further the reboot back into survival horror, then I'm game. I'd like them to really bring back older characters in order to finish their story arc and retire them. That's just a nitpick of mine, though. Blessed Heaven's Night .·☽ Sy
