X-MEN ROLEPLAY
RULES AND GUIDELINES

Rules and Guidelines (FAQ)

Emote Roleplay
One of the main discussion points in roleplays for the past years since moving to retros from Habbo, the roleplaying style has slowly transitioned over to emote roleplay and away from what people know as desc roleplay. Desc roleplay was known for being the "fastest" in combat to defeat your enemies easier, and would often leave characters that would realistically beat somebody - beaten. Emote roleplay changes that and has to time limit for when you submit your lines and allows you to both realistically provide the outcome of attacks and such. You're all probably familiar with it, since you're all here, but it would be nice for people to know that this is the main and only way of roleplaying here. Superhero Roleplays rely on character power techniques, not the speed of finger tips. This was written for the new members that join from communities such as Naruto, World of Darkness, Mafia etc. where desc roleplay is allowed in some cases.

Emote roleplay does not have any line/word limits or time limits. You're allowed to simply roleplay with the most basic lines, if you wish so, but it is encouraged to be as descriptive as possible with your lines to help people understand your actions a lot easier and also allow others to learn your character more simply through their mannerisms and body language that you'll be roleplaying.

Character Fighting and Deaths
People fight in schools in real life all the time, we get that. But you need to remember that you're burdened with the fact you have a powerful mutation upon you. You can still engage in realistic roleplay fights that would happen as consequences of your characters personalities, actions etc. but don't just do it for the fun of it to declare who's stronger so you can OOC hold yourself to pride over it. They'll also be dealt with seriously in-character too by the faculty of the school, as it's an extreme punishable offence.

Deaths in comic roleplays are straight up not allowed just because you say so. Something I beg that you all think about is the serious consequences of something if you allow your character to kill somebody. You WILL lose that character, eventually. No matter how hard you try. It might pop up in future scenes for something as "mutants are evil, blah blah!" but you won't be a student that you can roleplay anymore. Deaths are mainly kept for something emotionally powerful, such as a pinnacle point in a story-scene, not just some random school fight.

File Moderation
Files are moderated on a daily basis by the file moderation team. These are the guys that make sure your file get accepted or declined, depending on the situation, and allow you to know the outcome of your character that has been posted. You should be thanking these people - not hating on them. Yes, file acceptance might be taking a while, but all you have to do is politely remind them. Your files will be looked at eventually, and hopefully, we'll try our best to keep our standards of few hours minimum. Do remember that the file moderators are also roleplayers and want to enjoy their own characters, too.

Out of Character
One of the most distracting things inside the roleplay is people who constantly switch from in-character to out-of-character. You're ruining scenes by making people get distracted and causing them to talk with you instead of engaging with people in-character. This is why we'll be pushing OOC to occur in the main room, as much as possible. Out-of-character is fine for sorting out situations or saying the quick hi, but if you're out of character for the rest of the hour or so, please just go the main room.

Another thing to note is that you do not need to spam the room with IC every-time you go in-character. You're showing people you're OOC by using the brackets such as "[hello] hello [] (hello)" etc. The second you type something without those brackets, people will know you're now in-character. Try and keep it this way please as it's annoying to see people spam IC all the time when they're transitioning between OOC and IC.

Trolling Behaviour
Ironic as it is, trolling is rather annoying. When you're trolling and ruining scenes that might be important to some characters, you're just going to earn yourself a bad reputation with the members of the roleplay and then be unable to find roleplay with people as they'll no longer wish to engage IC with you. Having fun with people out of character is fine, every once and a while, but keep it tame and mainly to the main room. That was hard to write about.

Enjoy Yourselves and Be Nice
Everyone is here with the same purpose - to have fun with their characters and their friends. People are not here to fall victim of abuse out-of-character and to be neglected in-character simply because you don't like them because they made a character with ginger hair or some absurd reason. Help everyone have fun in the roleplay together, as this will just increase the life-span of the infamous short-lived comic roleplays and will make it a much more memorable and humbling experience for other roleplayers, too. Thank you for reading these and have fun!

Cybering in the Roleplay
It's come to our attention that some members of the roleplay are having some very adult acts in character. We want to remind you that it's the 1980's so something happening at such a young age would be rather unrealistic - it does happen, yes, but you're in a school with a telepathic teacher almost constantly monitoring you. Let's try and keep it to hand holding and kissing now?
