Name: Gonzalo Esmerare

Age: 16
Year Sophomore
Gender: Male

Physical Appearance: Gonzalo is around 167 centimeters tall, weighing in at about 65 kilograms, which to people who use objectively inferior measuring systems is 5ยด4 and 143 pounds respectively. He has a messy and short brown hair that doesn't go past his neck, accompanied by two tired looking eyes of the same color, which have recently been accompanied by a set of noticeable eyebags since the second half of last year.

His shape isn't what you would call that of an athlete, but he is in no way unfit either. While he isn't overly skinny, fat nor "jacked", he is just a rather plain looking kid physique-wise.

As for clothes, if he isn't wearing either his high school or his job uniform, you can bet a reasonable amount of money that he will be wearing his trusty old white T-shirt coupled with a pair of equally worn down dusty blue jeans.

Biography:
Born in the rough suburbs of "El Marginal". A big city located in the land of Candorina, a faraway country separated from Gem by the two ends of a huge ocean. Where he was humbly raised by his single mother, Isabel Motus, as his father had no issue bailing the very second he got the news. In spite of this, thanks to Isabel's hard work, sacrificing herself day in and day out in whatever job she could manage to find, Gonzalo managed to go to a respectable enough elementary and middle school. Watching his mom overwork herself like that, just to give him the chance at a good life, even if it was just a slim one. That grit and determination inspired him. If she was taxing herself this much just for him, then giving anything less than his all would be no less than an insult to all of Isabel's effort in the boy's eyes.

It was thanks to this mentality that Gonzalo swiftly rose to the top of his class through sheer force of will. This great academic performance would eventually pay dividends, as he was later allowed into a foreign exchange program abroad in the faraway land of Gem. At first, he had his doubts on the offer, leaving everything behind isn't an easy decision to make after all. But after all that work both him and his mom put in, there was just no way he could live with himself if he passed up this opportunity. This was their golden ticket to the proverbial chocolate factory, and he wasn't willing to throw it away under any circumstances. And without further ado, Gonzalo took the offer up and both him and Isabel headed into the brave new world that awaited them in Gem.

However, once there, there was no enthusiastic chocolate maker waiting to greet them, the only thing they found was the cruel reality that was "culture shock". The language barrier especially hit both of the foreigners hard like a reinforced brick wall. Now fortunately for him, Gonzalo picked English up rather quickly and smoothly, managing to temporarily solve at least one of those problems rather quickly. But on the other hand, Isabel wasn't quite as lucky, making finding any half decent work to make ends meet quite the struggle for the single mother. This fact would eventually lead to Gonzalo taking up a part-time job bagging groceries in an attempt to shift some of the brunt of the work off of his mother.

To make things even worse, matters weren't going great in High School either. Going from Candorina's educational system to Gem's presented a huge difference that took the foreigner some time to get used to, especially as his spare time was cut even shorter by his job at the supermarket. And even though most of the student body made an honest effort to welcome Gonzalo with open arms, the foreigner never really felt all that comfortable around these new peers. Most of his new classmates happened to come from the more accommodated sectors of society. This fact managed to rub the foreigner the wrong way. In comparison to him, they had everything they ever needed and even wanted to be handed out like candy, all the while, his road was filled with excruciating amounts of effort; days and nights of work by both him and his mom just to get here, and these spoiled rich kids had it all served on a silver platter. This extreme difference between him and the rest of his class made it extremely hard for the foreigner to really connect with anyone. Sure, he could put his differences aside in order to do some group activity, and he could even share a passing laugh or two with them, but at the end of the day, he truly felt "alone" there.

This wall would ultimately turn out to be an insurmountable one to climb for Gonzalo. As in spite of his still acceptable results, he requested a transfer to a lower profile High School, which was begrudgingly accepted, and thus, he was moved to Emerald High. Where he hoped to start a year in a new environment. One that he would hope was more down to earth than the last one. One where he could connect and relate to others. One where he could make a friend or two.

Personality: Gonzalo used to be a quite happy-go-lucky, outgoing and energetic kid back in his old home in the suburbs of El Marginal. But as he started to dedicate more and more time to his studies, he would start spending less and less time playing around, which made him fall out with several friends. In spite of this, this tendency would only increase as he arrived in Gem. As between keeping up his studies, working a part-time job and traveling long distances on public transport starved the boy out of some much needed spare time. With this increase in obligations, it was only natural that the foreigner would grow more and more tired, often looking like someone who hadn't slept in his life.

From an early age, Gonzalo has always been a stickler for everyone trying their very best at whatever they do, often times he'd get irrationally upset at any of his friends slacking in any way shape or form. And as the boy grew well into puberty and then into his teens, this aspect grew just as much. So when he got to Gem and saw how easy all of his peers had it in comparison to him, it just felt like the biggest slap in the face he'd ever received. He wasn't just upset, he downright resented them. He and his mom had been breaking their backs for years just for this single opportunity, and these spoiled brats had everything handed to them on a silver platter. And most of all, they couldn't even spare the slightest bit of gratitude for it. It was after this crushing reality smacked him square across the face that Gonzalo became noticeably more distant, as it seemed that the impact from that smack affected his views of not only his classmates but of people as well.

However, that resentment didn't mean that he wasn't open to aiding others, quite the opposite really, Gonzalo has always been ready to lend a helping hand towards those who he feels actually need it, even if helping them would actively detriment him in some way. For example, he'd have no in issue giving up all of his free time if it meant helping a classmate who was legitimately struggling on any given subject.
