I've always loved Charlie George!
 Found this interview with him. :D http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/sports/story/...,164488,00.html # How about a new captain? You're right, we do need a new captain. I don't think William Gallas is the right man for the job. Let me tell you, most people within the club were surprised when Wenger first picked Gallas as the new skipper. Gallas is a bit of a big baby, always stroppy. His sit-down protest in the game against Birmingham was an utter disgrace. I was surprised how he managed to escape a bigger fine or ban. Gallas must remember Arsenal are a gentleman's club. Conduct on the field and sportsmanship are as important as winning. His act of petulance was totally against the ethos of this club. To me, Cesc Fabregas will make a great captain. Why? He joined Arsenal at a very young age and is well-schooled in the Arsenal tradition and club culture. He has shown he has the ability to carry the team on his shoulders and win. That's the hallmark of a great captain.  |

I'm still at a loss as to why Gallas was picked as captain over Gilberto, i know he's not very vocal on the pitch, but my God he's acieved a lot in his career, surley the experience factor has to count for something. |

Gallas was only given the captain's armband to shut him up I think. I would love to see Fabregas as our captain.. he would be great. :) |

When I first started reading thi, I thought it was cesc saying gallas wasn't a good captain
 I was like wth? Why would he say that publicly. I totally agrre with Charlie George about the whole captain thing. In my opinion, I thought the captaincy next season should have either gone to flamini or cesc, and seeing as one has left, it leaves cesc. But I don;t think Wenger will give cesc the captaincy...most likely to go to toure.....or knowing wenger maybe even eboue...now that's a scary thought...... |

I would like to see Cesc as captain, even if that does completely discredit everything I said earlier on in the season. I don't think he's too young for it: he's grown up a lot in the last year, he's carried the team and he's got an amazing spirit. And, contrary to what the Spanish press might like to hark on about all summer, he's committed to the club. If it's an experienced captain we need, Cesc may only be 21, but he's been playing first-team football for... four/ five years. And he's been outstanding almost every second he's been on the pitch. The only thing is, if Gallas is stripped of his armband, I can't see him staying in the team. He's not the kind of player to enjoy being relegated in stature, and I don't think we can really afford to be getting rid of a world class CB at the moment. |

^ I agree. He has been at the club for 5 years dude, so he has experience. And regardless oif his age, the amount of time you have spent at the club should be considered when thinking about who the captaincy should go to. And cesc is vocal too as a captain should be. And he spurs the team on. And he's passionate. And he has proved his loyalty again and again to the club by saying he wants to stay put at Arsenal, and putting rumours to rest. And he sacked his agent cos he thought his agent was delaying progress with a new contract. What more does anyone need to figure that he should be the next captain....*sighs*...but I still think Wenger will take age into consideration a lot and thus opt for Toure. Toure would make a good captain too...it's just that I think Fabregas at this stage would make a better one. |

Personally, I think both would make good captains. I can bet money that either Toure or Gilberto will be made captain and Cesc vice-captain only because both Toure and Gilberto have been here for 6 years. |

Yeah all teams do incase the captain is injured or cannot play, then the captain's band goes to the vice captain, until the captain can play again. :) |
