Unfortunatly Vincent van den Bergs loan has not started well, as he was injured in his first match for Go Ahead Eagles, and it seems quite serious. not really well translated, so its hard to get a real understanding but its clear he was injured: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=e...l%3Den%26sa%3DG |

Jay Simpson has been in fine form for Millwall this season. The young striker has been with the Lions since August 31 and a string of impressive displays have seen him be named the League One’s Fans Player of the Month for November. His creative attacking flair was something that was evident last season in the Reserves, where he was a class above the majority of his teammates and it was obvious that he needed a loan spell to further his development. His loan at Millwall was initially only meant to last half the season, but he recently extended it and will now spend the rest of this campaign at the Den. When he returns to Arsenal, he faces a tough fight for a regular place in the starting XI with the likes of Walcott, Bendtner, Eduardo, van Persie and Adebayor ahead of him, chances are that next season, he will either get farmed out on loan again or go somewhere else in a permanent deal. Carlos Vela has been making waves with Osasuna in Spain this season. He’s on loan there until the end of the campaign and Wenger has already said that he will go straight into his first team squad next season. He would give Arsenal another option up front, as he can easily slip round the back and catch the defenders napping. It would be interesting to see him play alongside Bendtner because I feel the pair would compliment each other very well, as Bendtner could lay down the ball for Carlos to volley home. In the meantime though, he remains at Osasuna and will be hoping to make as many appearances as he can during his time there. Vincent van den Berg joined Go Ahead Eagles on loan earlier this month, and made his debut in a friendly match against Turkish opposition. Unfortunately, he suffered what looked like a serious injury after 25 minutes of that game and hasn’t played since. His chances of making at Arsenal are fairly limited, such is the quality around him. Unless he proves that he can be a regular on the scoresheet when he returns from injury then I honestly can’t see him coming back to Arsenal. Fran Merida is one of the most hyped youngsters at the club and he recently returned to his homeland to secure a loan deal with Real Sociedad. The ex-Barcelona youngster is yet to make his debut for the Spanish club but has been fantastic for Arsenal Reserves this season and his creativity on and off the ball is second to none. He needs to beef up a bit, but technically is complete and has a decent chance of being a first-team regular in the future. Pedro Silva had to return to Brazil for the first half of the season due to work permit issue that meant that he couldn’t play for Salamanca, the side he has joined on loan. However, he is now at the Spanish side and is set to make his debut shortly. He is a left-sided player who can play in both defence and midfield and likes to get forward a lot. As for his first-team chances, it’s too early to tell but if Wenger has signed him at such a young age then he must have faith in him, although there is still a very long way to go yet. http://arsenalyouth.wordpress.com/2008/01/...eport/#comments |

Some updates, not much but ehh
:P  better than nothing Well, after watching the FA Cup highlights last night, Jay Simpson stood out again as he was on target once more for Millwall against Coventry. He definitely has an eye for goal and it will be interesting to see what Wenger does with him come the end of the season as he is clearly a very talented player. However, there are quite a few decent strikers at the club at the moment so he may find games hard to come by. Carlos Vela was also in action last night as he played 84 minutes for Osasuna. http://arsenalyouth.wordpress.com/ Related news, our loanee Pedro Botelho just had his first debut for UD Salamanca as a sub replacing Toti on the 72nd minute against my local team Málaga. The match ended on a goalless draw, which is quite unordinary considering there was never a goalless draw for over 9 mths at El Helmántico. It was a very dull match with only 2 good chances throughout the 90 minutes. Pedro has only 3 touch playing as a left winger when he came on. http://arsenal-mania.com/forum/viewtopic.p...5145&start=1710 |

Scouting report on Carlos Vela Carlos Vela played 83 minutes as Sevilla beat Osasuna 2-1 in a game filled with yellow cards, diving and poor tackles. Vela spent most of the first half on the touchline waiting for the ball, but when it didn’t come, he came inside looking for it, Daniel Alves, a player Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona have all been linked with had the task of marking the 18 year old starlet. Alves [24] didn’t use his speed, class or experience to stop Carlos, he decided to try and foul him whenever he touched the ball, but his plan didn’t work. Vela’s pace, power and ability saw him turn the Brazil international all game, Dani was often caught out of position going forward by the lightning pace of the Mexican, if he could just have found a killer pass Osasuna would have been ahead by the break. Half Time - Osasuna 0-0 Sevilla Second half was much improved with both sides looking for the win, On 52 minutes Carlos won the ball on the edge of his own area, and darted forward Daniel Alves tried to flatten him, but his electric pace took him away from the Brazilian who didn’t give chase, full of running he clipped the ball into Dady who failed to make contact with his through pass and the keeper grabbed it. Vela pulled up injured. After a short moment he got back up, Osasuna kicked the ball out for a throw returning the favour after Alves put it out for Vela to get treatment, from the throw Sevilla won a free kick which was badly defended allowing Christan Poulson unmarked to clip the ball past the stranded Ricardo. it was 66 Min’s in when Carlos was next involved, getting on the end of a cross which Drago kicked away from under him, Vela lost his boot in the aggressive tackle, and the ball went for a throw in. From the throw the ball was given to Vela who chipped the ball in behind the back-line Dady’s tame shot was easy for the keeper, Sevilla were on top. Sola switched sides with Vela, who was now playing on the right hand side of a 4-3-3, Drago also opting to kick the Mexican, but Sevilla would be punished. The ball came to Sola, who drove inside, Vela pulled of his marked and was available for a tap in but Sola continued twisted and turned Poulsen inside out and on his left foot hammered Osasuna level. With 20 minutes to go Alves’s free-kick was tipped over by Ricardo after a foul from Alves, in which he was elbowed, it was anybody game. With 15 minutes left Carlos switched with Dady and played straight though the middle, but he didn’t see much of the ball, Sevilla brought Maresca on and were looking for the winner. But there were caught on the break, the impressive Dady who posses excellent touch for such a big man, cut in and on his weaker right foot blasted an effort off the Sevilla crossbar, Dady was the perfect foil for Vela the two linked up expertly all night, a “little and large” combination. On 83 minutes Vela was replaced with Punal, an impressive nights work from the teenager, but by now he was looking tired and bruised, despite matching up to the physical side of Sevilla’s play. For the second match running Osasuna didn’t finish with 11 men, skipper [] was sent of for a second booking, from the free kick Punal nearly put through his own net. But things got even worse, a hand ball in the box by Javi Garcia, which bounced through Chevanton’s legs and hit his hand, an impossible view for the ref, but he still gave the spot-kick in the 90th minute, sending Vela from his seat on the bench to the sidelines to appeal for his team, Juanfran was furious and got in the face of Drago. Man City target Luis Fabiano scored, only for a retake to be ordered which Fabiano crashed in the bottom corner, shell shocking Osasuna and bringing disappointment to Vela and his team mates. |

Jay Simpson- Nottingham Forest 2 Millwall 0 Jay Simpson played 90 minutes as Millwall slipped into the relegation zone with a 2-0 defeat away to Nottingham Forest. Julien Bennett and Luke Chambers grabbed the goals for the home side and Millwall are now in deep trouble at the bottom of League One. Mark Randall- Burnley 1 Colchester United 1 Mark Randall came on as a 73rd minute substitute as Burnley squandered a 1-0 lead at Turf Moor. Andy Cole put the home side in front, but it was cancelled out by Johnnie Jackson’s 38th minute strike. Burnley currently sit ninth in the Championship. Randall nearly won the game right at the death with a half-volley, but it wasn’t to be. Kieran Gibbs- Cardiff City 1 Norwich City 2 Kieran Gibbs didn’t feature as Norwich snatched three points right at the death of this away trip to Cardiff. Norwich took the lead through Ched Evans, but it was cancelled out by Alex Rae’s effort for Cardiff. However, Evans grabbed his second goal of the game just two minutes from time to secure all three points for the Canaries. Norwich are currently in 12th place in the Championship. http://arsenalyouth.wordpress.com/ |
