I think and hope he will be fine. Alan Smith broke his tibia I believe as well as dislocated his ankle and he was back months before anyone believed it reasonable for him to play again. So I'm sure that if he follows the physios recommendations and just keeps a positive mindest, he'll return soon. He's gonna have to be really careful though...I sprained my ankle (a simple sprain) last spring and it is still swollen. But I'm glad everything's ok with him!

LONDON, Feb 24 (Reuters) - Arsenal striker Eduardo has
undergone surgery after breaking a leg in Saturday's Premier
League match against Birmingham City.

Arsenal said on their Web site (www.arsenal.com) that the
Brazilian-born Croatian international was resting in hospital
after an operation for a broken leg.

Manager Arsene Wenger has already ruled him out for the rest
of the season and possibly much longer, meaning that he will
miss the European championships in Austria and Switzerland in
June.

The incident was so horrific that television stations
declined to show the replay, although Sunday's News of the World
had graphic photographs on its inside pages.

There has been widespread speculation that the 24-year-old's
career is in danger.

Da Silva's Croatia team mate Vedran Corluka said he was
close to tears when he saw the incident.

"I was very disappointed and sad because Eduardo is my
friend," the Manchester City player told Sky Sports News.

"When I saw that thing happen to him I wanted to cry because
he's such a good guy and he didn't deserve that.

"I don't want to talk about that tackle. I think the player
didn't want to do that, it just happened.

"I'm just sad because Eduardo didn't deserve that. The
player made that tackle but I think he didn't want to do that,
he was just unlucky on that tackle."

The Rio de Janeiro-born player is one of a number of
Brazilians who have played for different countries after moving
abroad.

He was barely known in his homeland until 2004 when he made
his full international debut against Ireland. He joined Arsenal
in July.

Aww! Corluka! That's sweet though.

I broke my ankle in 4th grade and it was terrible! I can't even imagine what he must be feeling as my break was just a fracture in some small bone...I really hope this doesn't affect his playing career in the long run.

Arsenal.com:

Eduardo has given his account of the events at Birmingham City on Saturday.

The Croatian striker, 25 on Monday, has ruled himself out of the rest of the season and Euro 2008 in the summer after breaking his leg following a challenge from Martin Taylor. However he adds that he is 'determined to overcome this injury'.

“I don't remember the incident very well and it is not something that I want to see again on television or in the newspapers," said the summer signing from Dinamo Zagreb.

"All I remember is that when I fell, I looked down at my foot and it had turned the other way. The rest is just a blank. It was an unfortunate situation but these things can happen in football.

“I am unsure at the moment of the extent of the injury and how long I will be out of action for but I know that I won't be able to play for Arsenal for the rest of the season or be ready in time for the Euros this summer.

"But I'm not worried about that. My concentration and determination is on making as quick a recovery as possible. I am determined to overcome this injury.

“I would like to thank the medical team here at Arsenal for their efforts as well as the staff at Selly Oak hospital who carried out the operation on Saturday night. Everyone there made me feel as comfortable as possible.

"I would also like to say how touched I am by the many messages of support I have received and to be surrounded by my loved ones at this time.”

I agree with everything you said, Jordi. The petitions are ridiculous and certainly actions based on the immediate emotions after the match...the fans (I mean the ones who made the petition, not the ones on here) will still hate Taylor, but they have to understand that to ruin his career won't make Eduardo come back any faster...well anyway.

I am glad he's being so positive. Poor thing, already hustled by the media. Let the man rest up,jeeze.

If anyone can recover from it, Dudu can.

I know they'll never read this, but I just want to thank Arsenal's medical staff for being so bloody incredible. They may have saved Eduardo's foot. Gary Lewin =

I second this!
The medic staff were fantastic. Especially Gary Lewin, he deserves an award.. I remember that time he dealt with John Terry's injury in the carling cup final too

I can still picture Cesc getting really worried and trying to call them on faster :(

Happy birthday Eduardo!
