 Where did Fran's thread go? Was it deleted?

Anyway, got an article about fran. Arsenal have signed him on for another four years  And he is going to get more playing time at Real Sociadad

Quote:

Arsenal starlet Fran Mérida Perez has spoken to RealSociedad.com after an amazing week in the life of the 18 year old, after first having coach Jose Ramon Eizmendi sacked on Wednesday, he soon learnt that new manager Juanma Lillo would be ending Fran’s disappointment at being left on the bench under Eizmendi, and would become the main focus of the team, as they look to push on and win promotion to La Liga.

Then came confirmation Arsenal had agreed a brand new four year contract with Mérida, ending speculation he would be leaving the Gunners, and then after being involved in Real Sociedad’s 2008 team photo shoot, he was handed a place in the starting line-up as Sociedad took on Hércules a chance to impress in front of his home fans.

Things got off to a bad start when Agirre Sendoa’s 64th minute strike put the visitors ahead, but the midfield maestro set about winning the game to repay the faith shown in him by Juanma Lillo, something the previous coach had not seen, leaving Fran on the bench or giving him the final minutes, but with all that now in the past The Basque outfit got themselves level through Delibasic setting up a nervous final few minutes.

With the clock ticking down, Fran picking the ball up, strode forward before unleashing a left footed drive low in to the bottom corner to hand all three points to Sociedad, in his after-match Interview he spoke on the game:

“I am Very contented by being able to play after two months without a start, and of course by the goal. I felt well because one wants to be in the field and to help the team.

It was a very special day, that is going to be there, but now we need to focus, that we have left a very hard end and we need to be mentally read for Celta [Vigo] “

Fran also talked about next week’s fixture against Celta, and placed special importance on a win, to keep up the pressure at the top of the league

“A victory with faith and soul, is going to give us [The Team] much moral and the balance is good, the team was good at most things, but I believe that always things can be improved”.

Real Sociedad coach Jose Ramon Eizmendi has come under fire from fans, as well as the media after using loan midfielder Fran Merida sparingly since his arrival in February.

El Mundo Deportivo reports fans of the basque club are furious with the coach who replaced Chris Coleman after new chairman Iñaki Badiola won the clubs January elections, however after playing Merida for just 1 minute on Saturday in a 1-0 defeat, questions are being asked of Eizmendi who has had mixed results since his arrival and only has a contract until the end of the season, with some supporters on the clubs forums calling for him to be sacked.

Badiola himself is also thought to be furious, as he see’s this loan contract as the start of a relationship with Arsenal, which could see the Gunners sending more prospects to them, as UD Salamanca our other link side, are currently having money troubles, and their long term future is far from certain.

But with the treatment of Fran who is regarded as one of the biggest and brightest prospects in Spain, Arsenal will think twice before sending any more players to the San Sebastian outfit.

If anyone gets or reads FourFourTwo, there is an article on him in the May issue. They're comparing him to Fabregas essentially.

Aye, i saw that Nettie!
Tbh though - he is no cesc!
As he said (and i'll quote him here)
" I get compared to Cesc a lot, but as i've already said lots of times, we're different. Hes already played in a World cup and a Champions League final, and im just a kid who's learning the game."

hes still not quite up there yet and not Arsenal standard shall we say. I think when he was younger he was over-rated and everyone expected a little too much from him. Dont get me wrong, i do like the fella but i just feel people have made too much a of hype about him.

Awwww i saw Franny play! Well on the TV for the U19s but still...heplayed. He was ok but he did get subbed. He had some wild shot which went miles over :blink2: then he made a 2 bad passes apart from that though his passing was perfect in the midfield so i dont understand why he was subbed. He'll probably get a few more chances for us this season seeing as we have no midfield :ph4: Hopefully won't leave and he can show us hes not some overrated guy! I cant remember the club in spain but they wanted him along with Pedro Botelho on-loan next season. And today they said Juve were interested in him even though Juve have said theyre not buying anyone else this summer!! :unsure2:

Found this pic the other day..

Fran's apparently back from loan. I didnt know that :blink2:

Quote:

Fran has had a mixed and eventful time back in his home land since joining the Basque outfit in January, and after starting well under former Fulham boss Chris Coleman, Merida found himself on the bench as Coleman was sacked and new chairman Iñaki Badiola decided he wanted his own man in charge.

Jose Ramon Eizmendi was appointed and decided to keep Fran on the bench, only using him for the final moments of games to run down the clock. You could understand this happening if it was successful, but the fact of the matter was that under Eizmendi Sociedad had slipped out of the automatic promotion zone, and with pressure piling on the Real board, Jose Ramon was sacked just over two months after his appointment.

In came Juanma Lillo, who quickly established Mérida as the lynch pin of his side. He started him for the home game against Hércules, (his first in charge) and with the scores at 1-1 Fran bagged the winner with just minutes left. A speculator way to celebrate his brand new four year contract with Arsenal.

Whilst the loan spell in Spain has not been an easy ride for Fran, the experience gained will prove to be priceless. The Segunda season runs right to June so there is still plenty of playing time and vital experience to be gained. However he has been called up to the Spanish Under 19 squad that will face Ukraine and Turkey later this month.

Wenger has previously spoken about Mérida, and called the 18 year old an “An absolutely amazing player”, whilst it is unknown where Arsene sees as his best position, the long term future is looking good for Fran.

He will no doubt take heart from Mark Randall, Kieran Gibbs and Jay Simpson who have all scored goals following there return for loan spells, and if Fran was amazing before the loan spell, imagine how good he will be on his return.

Hopefully means that we will see him in the carling cup :priyasbf:
