Christian praise for Aquilani Sunday 1 June, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christian Panucci hopes that Roma teammate Alberto Aquilani can be Italy’s surprise sensation of Euro 2008.

With the start of the European Championships just a week away, the anticipation is reaching fever pitch in the Azzurri camp with each player trying to prove they can be Roberto Donadoni’s prized asset.

But veteran defender Panucci thinks Aquilani will be the revelation of the tournament and insists that the on-the-pitch argument the two men had last season are long forgotten.

“I hope that Aquilani will be the surprise of the competition,” he told the Corriere dello Sport.

“He has had a troubled season from injury, but the Coach selected him because he believes Alberto can be our secret weapon.

“I like him a lot, even if we have argued. It was an isolated incident that lasted 20 minutes.

“We sorted it out fine and we get along well. I always give him advice and he often asks me things.”

Panucci also argued with Roma goalkeeper Alexander Doni after giving away a sloppy goal against Udinese last term.

“After two or three days we put it to rest,” the former Inter man revealed. “It just needed a little time because we are both proud men. Everyone makes mistakes, but we resolved the situation.”

Canna's Euro chances fade Monday 2 June, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Early indications are that Fabio Cannavaro will miss Euro 2008 and will be replaced by Fiorentina’s Alessandro Gamberini.

Disaster struck during Italy’s first pre-tournament training session in Austria when skipper Canna remained grounded after a 50-50 with Giorgio Chiellini during a mini-game.

Fears grew as an obviously distressed Cannavaro had to be carried off Admira Wacker’s ground on a stretcher.

While it will take two days to ascertain the exact extent of the problem, reports from the hospital are grim.

It is being suggested that Cannavaro has seriously damaged his left ankle and may even require surgery.

If that is the case, Italy will have to face Euro 2008 without their captain and will look for a replacement.

After a superb campaign with Fiorentina, Gamberini was disappointed not to have made Roberto Donadoni’s squad for the tournament, but he may now get his chance.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We definatly need a tragically upset weeping smiley because this little guy :( does not come close to expressing my saddness.

Can't believe that Canna is out of Euro 2008 because of an ankle injury! :( Was so sad to hear that on TV today, it keeps happening to people! First to Ryan, now Canna, then Cristiano too! Wtf! Stop training dammit! But really. It sucks for Italy, big blow to be missing their captain right now right before the start of the tournament!!! Damnit!!!

yeah, i think he did and they said he will probably need surgery and who knows what the frak that will do and how good it will end up. Hes 35 already. :( :( :(
If you want they have video from training and the injury here, though you really cant see what happened, I want to cry when you see him though cuz you can tell he knows hes fucked.
Gamberini has been called into the squad, Matrix will now play a very big part of the tournament I think since he will be the cb with experience. Buffon most likely will be captain. It sucks Nesta retired.

THIS FRAKING SUCKS ASS!

Cannavaro: These things happen Tuesday 3 June, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stricken skipper Fabio Cannavaro will stay with the Italy squad in Austria in spite of being ruled out of Euro 2008 and is keeping positive.

Italy were dealt a huge blow yesterday when Cannavaro damaged ligaments in his ankle in a tackle with Giorgio Chiellini in training.

It was confirmed last night that Canna’s Euro 2008 was over before it began, but the Real Madrid man doesn’t want to return home yet.

“I asked Donadoni to let me stay with the squad,” he revealed. “It only seems right after two years of work together.

“I’m disappointed because I was so pumped up and it would have been my third and final European Championship. But now I have set 2010 as my objective.”

Chiellini, who was unwittingly responsible for Cannavaro’s injury, was reportedly devastated by events and broke down in tears last night.

“I comforted Chiellini,” Canna said. “He was in pieces, but it was important not to lose two players instead of one.

“I am a footballer and I know that these things happen and they must be taken as challenges.

“The thing that relaxes me is knowing that my colleagues are great professionals who are attached to the shirt.”

“I still have such a strong desire to play and I haven’t thought about quitting. I’m hoping to return in two months.”

Cannavaro will be operated on by Azzurri doctor Andrea Ferretti tomorrow.

Grrrrrr Don you moron, I cant believe how awfully wrong your selection was, every Italian I know knew your selection was horrible when they saw it, so how the hell couldnt you.

Nothing went right, first goal for Holland was offside, and then getting so many chances wrong, just a bad day all around. Gahhh what a lousy match.

^ Agree with you.

Gattusso- you have got to love the guy. The cheeky smile that he always gives to the refs are hilarious.

And Grosso- did he use to have curly hair before?

If Holland's first goal hadn't been allowed, then I think the match could have possibly gone the other way, if Italy had played like they did in the better off. Created more chances but juast wasn't their day. But compared to the way Fraance played today, I'd say Italy look the more likely to get through than the two teams above them.
