Buffon apologises to fans Monday 9 June, 2008 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gianluigi Buffon has apologised to all the Italy fans after what he dubbed “one of the worst performances in my Italy career.” The Azzurri got off to a disastrous start at Euro 2008 by losing 3-0 to Holland and, although Coach Roberto Donadoni tried to minimise the extent of the problems, his goalkeeper did not agree. “I hope we can use this as a starting point. It was one of the worst performances since I have been in the Nazionale and Holland legitimised their victory with a good game,” said the captain. “I have spoken to all the players and we all agreed to apologise to the Italy fans. We honestly didn’t expect this to happen.” There was controversy and anger in the first half when Ruud Van Nistelrooy opened the scoring in an offside position, but Buffon refused to look for excuses. “It’s true Van Nistelrooy was offside, but we cannot clutch at straws during a game that was so obviously won by Holland. “We can only apologise to the supporters for all that happened tonight and promise to do better against Romania and France.” awww :( :( what a class act Gigi is  come on boys we still believe in you (just not your coach ) |

He sucked today. I have seen him before and he hasn't been bad, but today he was truly bad. -_- ^o) I am so SO glad Italy did score though! Thank god!!!!!!! And GIGI BUFFON was my hero today. My god. <3 The man is amazing. I really really think Italy can beat France like seriously. hope they will. If Italy is out of Euros, I will be so sad. |

the bad thing is if Romania win they go through, and Holland isnt going to be putting out a good team since they are qualified already :( ive had a bad feeling about this tournament since before even Canna got injured, i dunno why but i just have. Gigi and Daniele and Panucci and Camo were so great today though, i just hope we beat France, even if we dont go through we HAVE to beat them. its going to be such a fantastic match though, because for soo many wonderful players on both sides its probably going be their last hurrah internationally, and the last chance to let their feeling out from the WC and what not. its a game no one should miss, whether you like Italy, France or just football in general. |

I don't know, I think Holland could still beat them though...I believe in the Oranje for this match anyway. :p In this tournament so far I haven't wanted to root for them because they beat Italy so badly etc. But please get it done against Romania! I know! Exactly what you said. It'll be great. I like players from each side but obviously I still want Italy to win, no question about it. I don't know, I just started supporting Italy the first time I saw them playing in the World Cup so they've been "my team" since then although I also like others. Since Estonia never makes it anywhere anyway, I might as well support other countries. Haha, I just saw that picture of Luca you posted! ^_^ He DOES look huge. Well, he's really tall anyway so I'm not surprised. |

Yeah, I believe in Holland, and Donadoni and van Basten are friends from their Milan days so Don says he talked to him to make sure he goes for it and is confident he will. If not it would be like Euro 04 all over again :ermm: Also the ref from the Romania game has come out and said he made the run decision in ruling Luca's goal offside, at least he can admit it though it doesnt help matters lol. And finally my favorite news today: Lippi prepares Italy comeback Sunday 15 June, 2008 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Even before Italy’s Euro 2008 exit, newspapers insist Marcello Lippi is ready to sign a blank contract to lead the Azzurri again. The shadow of the 2006 World Cup winner has been felt over Roberto Donadoni from the moment he took charge and the dismal start to this tournament – one point from two games – only served to intensify it. According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Lippi is prepared to put pen to paper to a blank contract, without discussing wages or demands, to lead the team into 2010 World Cup qualifying. “Would I return to the Italy squad? Never say never,” was his telling quote after two years of rest and recuperation. Donadoni only signed a contract extension on June 4, but it was clear for everyone involved that failure in Euro 2008 would mean immediate resignation. The Gazzetta dello Sport has already drawn up a list of Lippi’s staff, including Ciro Ferrara and Angelo Peruzzi. The former goalkeeper would act as a unifying force between the squad and the staff, just as he did in the 2006 World Cup, when as third choice he made his presence felt as an inspirational figure in the locker room. I think I would almost die of happiness if Lippi came back to coach the Azzurri in the WC :D |

All I can do is cross my fingers and hope Italy continues on. I really want them in the next round. :(I hear the Azzurri! Well that really doesn't help now, does it?! ^o) At least he admitted his fault but still, he was clearly on side...there was no question about it. I think they really need to have replays to help them make decisions...it would be so much more accurate. WOW. If Lippi came back, that would just be amazing. He was great, unstoppable!!! |
