He's 21? I heard that Don Givens didn't ask him include him in the squad to face Brazil because of some fight he had with him before..

FAI confirm Trap appointment
Voluntary salary sponsorship allows appointment of Italian
By Peter Fraser Last updated: 13th February 2008

Trapattoni: FAI appointment
He has an unbelievable passion for the game which is like Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
The Irish Football Association have revealed that voluntary salary sponsorship allowed the confirmation of Giovanni Trapattoni as the new manager of the Republic of Ireland.
Former Italy boss Trapattoni will take charge of the Republic when he leaves Red Bull Salzburg at the end of the season and his first game in charge will be the friendly against Serbia on 24th May at Croke Park.
The appointment brings to an end the FAI's lengthy search for a successor to former manager Steve Staunton and chief executive John Delaney has now revealed that financial assistance was received from an Irish businessman to help the process.
Delaney has confirmed that Denis O'Brien volunteered to sponsor part of Ireland's new manager's salary, which allowed the FAI to 'raise the bar' in their search.
"No stone was left unturned in its (the FAI's) efforts to secure the best possible person for the position," said Delaney in a press conference on Sky Sports News.
Supportive
"During this period an Ireland supporter contacted the association and indicated that he was very supportive of what we were trying to do.
"And that he would be prepared to sponsor part of the new manger's salary in order to ensure that money was not an insurmountable obstacle to getting the best possible person for the position.
"I spoke to him and he stressed that he did not want to offer the decision or want tickets or sponsorship opportunities in return.
"He continually stated that the reason for his offer was to put together the type of package to attract a top quality manager.
"This offer of financial assistance was a pivotal moment in the recruitment process because it enabled us to raise the bar higher than we had intended.
O'Brien gratitude
"I would like on behalf of the FAI and every Ireland fan to extend our deep gratitude to businessman Denis O'Brien for his gesture."
Meanwhile, Ray Houghton - who was on the FAI panel charged with finding Staunton's successor - has stated his belief that Trapattoni is the man to take Ireland to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
"We believe 100 per cent this is the man to take the team forward," Houghton said of Trapattoni - who has six Serie A titles with Juventus and one with Internazionale to his name.
"You can't fault his credentials. He has an unbelievable passion for the game which is like Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
"The first thing he said was that he wants to come and wants to take the team forward to 2010."

Bit odd Denis O' Brien paying half his wages.. maby in exchange the players will have to wear jerseys with his face on them! :P

^His english isn't that good, right now. It will be funny him trying to understand what the irish lads are saying as some have dublin accents, country accents, english accents and scottish accents!!

 I bet that will be a laugh, trying to understand what some of the lads are saying!!

Glad we finally got a manager(I know this is old, old news now!) Hopefully he will have a good impact on the team, and the majority of the lads are pretty young and will only improve before the WC qualifiers. We have hope :D

I've showed him to a couple of friends as he was on the TV when i was flicking through the channels and i asked them what they thought of him and they were like errrr hes horrible, how can you like him? blah blah blah. So i kept my Keogh love quiet but then i saw the pictures of him before and couldnt keep it quiet. But now ive finally found someone who likes him as well :P Hes so blonde its cute! Hes Cute.

Hopeuflly he'll get more chances in the games that matter and will make a bit more for a name for him.

 Your friends obviously have very high standards!
I could never tell anybody, my brothers/dad wouldn't approve of liking a rival player and my friends are Wolves fans and would never shut up about it! :(

Glad I'm not the only one :P :D

I hope he gets to start on Thursday, he should start in front of Hunt, he was useless last night!!
I want him to make a name for himself, but I'd hate to see him go off to a team and not be the hero he is, Wolves fans adore him!(Plus, it means he lives by me )
