Some team news:

Quote:

Celtic's Aiden McGeady and Newcastle's Damien Duff look set to provide the ammunition down the wings, while Robbie Keane has been asked to fill the 'Francesco Totti' role behind Kevin Doyle up front.

John O'Shea is likely to be handed his first start under Trapattoni and should still be on a high having lifted the UEFA Champions League with Manchester United just eight days ago.

Crystal Palace youngster Sean Scannell will be hoping to make his international debut at some stage, while Dean Kiely makes a rare start between the sticks in the continued absence of Shay Given.

Yay! Speedy McGeady is back :D

!Bump!
I can't wait for the WC 2010 qualifiers, only a few weeks until they start!
I actually feel quite confident, come on!!

I wonder if Keane will still be captain though, the theory that he plays much better without the extra pressure of captaincy.

Group 8
Italy
Bulgaria
Republic of Ireland
Cyprus
Georgia
Montenegro

I'm supporting them mainly on account of Celtic ;)

It will be hard for Ireland to qualify for the world cup... However I believe in them :)

Poland will play match against them in November in Dublin :D Unfortunately they won't play in Warsaw.... :-/

I think we can do it! :D Italy will be tough, but Scotland have shown that it isn't impossible to do well against them.

 yay! It's nice to have another Ireland fan, even if it is mainly because of Celtic!!
It's a shame you won't be able to see the match :( I'm going to see Ireland Vs Georgia! It's on my birthday

You are lucky

Scotland did quite well against Italia but they unfortunately lost twice :-/

Ireland must win these matches with other teams and give a good performance with Italians :P

It is a pity that I won't see this game, But perhaps Ireland will arrive to Poland on Euro 2012 :priyasbf:

Yeah, Scotland were unlucky!
haha, I'm feeling very confident about the team! Especially as our manager is Italian, so surely he will beat them?? It's just one of those things which is destined to happen!

Oh yeah! I forgot Poland were co-hosting the next Euro's! I think we will be there, don't worry! ;)

a point will do me!
We should have had that penalty, but a point away from home isn't too bad considering our usual form.
Taking into account that Bulgaria also drew with Montenegro, and I think it's going to be between us and Bulgaria for that 2nd place.

haha, I love this song "50 ways to beat San Marino"

Keep 'em at bay, Shay
Try to get tough, Duff
Score from a free, Lee
and we will win by three

Just get on the ball, Paul
Put us in the lead, Reid
We've got Speedy McGeady
So we'll win by three.

Just give it a rev, Kev
Bring it to the boil, Doyle
You gotta be mean, Keane
We will win by three.

Bring it to the boil, Doyle

Hamilton midfielder James McCarthy has decided to commit his international future to the Republic of Ireland.

The 17-year-old Glaswegian had been approached by the Scottish FA, but he qualifies for Ireland through his Donegal-born grandfather and has spent three seasons with the Irish youth set-up, most recently playing at under-21 level.

The tug of war over his services stepped up a gear this week with Giovanni Trapattoni indicating he would give McCarthy a full cap in next month's friendly with Poland.

Scotland boss George Burley had a similar idea and was preparing to hand the teenager a cap against Argentina.

:D Yay!! Eire 2, Scotland 0 :P
World rankings mean nothing if all the best players choose Ireland over Scotland! ;)
