It's about time this boy got his own topic. Being named in the first squad is as good a time as any.

Jack Wilshere has been named in Arsenal's first-team squad for the 2008/09 season.

The talented 16-year-old has played a major role during pre-season, impressing Arsène Wenger at the Club's training camp in Austria and featuring in both of Arsenal's games at the Emirates Cup.

Wilshere started against Juventus on Saturday and went close with a volley in the first half. He came off the bench against Real Madrid on Sunday and caused problems for one of Europe's most experienced right backs, the Spaniard Michel Salgado.

Wilshere wore the No 55 shirt against La Liga's champions but will take the No 19 shirt in the forthcoming campaign. That number was vacated by Gilberto when the Brazilian left for Panathinaikos last month.

Wilshere joined Arsenal as a nine year-old in October 2001. Last season he scored 13 times in 19 Under-18 league outings and also netted twice from two reserve team starts, all while still a schoolboy.

From Arsenal.com.

I know he's only sixteen, but sometimes you have to dismiss age when a player is this good. Didn't Robin van Persie once cheesily say, "In football, like in love, age doesn't matter"? I've not heard any interviews from him, but he certainly plays with an old head on young shoulders (Cesc Fabregas, anyone?), so I hope he handles the next couple of testing years well.

Welcome to the first team, Jack! You, at the grand age of sixteen, have made me feel well and truly inferior!

I love this kid, everytime I see him he's fantastic. He plays like he is older than he actually is, I mean some of are older players are cautious about taking people on or going in for a tackle to win the ball back, but not Jack. With the new rule about being able to have 7 subs hes probably going to get some action if we are cruising in a match. Im so excited to see what this boy can do, he seems like he is going to be a great player.

And for a nickname, I heard one suggested somewhere else: Jack the Ripper

Fluffy made me laugh a lot today.

On Sky Sports News they had an interview with Theo and he was just talking about things. Then the reporter asked about Jack Wilshere. And theo said something along the lines of "Hes a good lad, hes a great addition to have in the squad and although he won't play every game to be in and out of the squad is good" then at the end he said "Hes a good Kid"

Theo saying Jack is a good Kid, when Theo is just a kid himself! :ph4:
