Got this from another forum

there just was an interview with Arsenal's agent completing the deal yesterday. Very interesting stuff:

- Arsenal ended up paying a fair amount more than they had hoped. Didn't reveal the figure, but probably around 15 million.
- Zenit were extremely difficult to deal with and did not appear to want to sell no matter what until the very last moment
- Arshavin at one point yesterday afternoon sat down on the floor with his head in his hands saying "this is not going to happen. they won't let me go. they won't let me go"
- all paperwork was faxed before 5 and he called it "a miracle"
- Arsenal went all out in order to secure the signing and were "extremely positive" in their negotiations
- he went out with Arshavin for a drink last night and Arshavin was so delighted about the move that he was wearing the Arsenal shirt the whole evening.

Interview with Arshavin from A-M

At 17.42 Moscow time [14.42 GMT] I couldn't stop myself from ringing Arshavin, to know what's going on over there.

- It seems the league has given the go-ahead, but the FA is asking for some additional papers, - explained Andrei. - Everything should be decided before four o'clock London time (19.00 Moscow). Or pushed back until tomorrow.

At 19.15 I'm ringing again.

- Any good news?

- The only news are that deadlined has been pushed forward and the process is continuing.

- Well, I'll be ringing back.

But I didn't have to. At 19.31 Arshavin called me himself:

- 15 seconds ago I became an Arsenal player!

- Congratulations! - I answered and instantly asked Andrei for an interview.

Arshavin is the the most expensive accusition in the history of this London club (before the 16,5 million pound fee the largest sum payed was 13 million for Silven Wiltrod, who joined wrom Bordot in 2000) - for "Sport-Express", which supported him for all these last months, he didn't deny the interview.

- How did you get through these last weeks and days?

- I'm not separating them from this whole story, which started right after the European Championship. Of course, the concentration of events and feelings was much more saturate the last few days, but the essence remained the same. But the most important is that the result to which I have been striving for, with difficulties, is achieved. Now I'm an Arsenal player.

- How was the training camp in the Emirates [UAE!], amidst the huge uncertainty?

-No one can say, that I was loafing there. I was doing my job, although the thoughts that were in my mind for the last half a year didn't disappear anywhere, of course. Big support was coming from Arsène Wenger, with whom I talked on the telephone a few times. He was emphasizing that he believes in me and, sooner or later, but the transfer will go through.

- Do you know him for a long time?

- No, we made acquaintance just 1,5 months ago. But he is a great man and I never thought I will have a chance to play in his team.

-From Dubai you flew to Paris. Why?

- That was the closest possible location to London and we decided that it would be better to stay there, then fly to Piter [St. Petersburgh]. I was waiting for the decision to fly to England.

- Who was supposed to give the go-ahead?

- Arsenal.

- If you were told in the summer: you won't join Tottenham now, but in winter you'll go to Arsenal - would you have greed?

- Difficult to say. I don't won't to compare these two teams, but, it seems it was outlined from above, that I had to end up in Arsenal. So I'm here now.

- What do you think of Arsenal's football? Why did you want to join that club?

- Arsenal is playing a very fast and attacking football, which is exactly right for me. And the club has many creative footballers.

- Which, by the way, leads to huge competition. Adebayor, van Persie, Rosicky, Walcott, Nasri... What do you need to withstand such competition?

- To train well and play great football.

- So, you are confident in your abilities?

- Yes.

- If we were to return to Monday - when did you start to believe, that the transfer was actually gonna happen?

- That day had taken a lot out of me. Even phisically - I was up from 8 o'clock in the morning, and had only eaten for the first time at 10 in the evening. But I believed from the moment I signed the contract. It was about 16.57 or 16.58 London time.

- Did you follow what was happening in the Russian internet at the time?

- Thank god, no. In the first half of the day I had a medical and the second part was spent in my hotel room, waiting to see how it all will end.

- The reaction in Russia waried greatly and many didn't support you, to put it mildly [I feel many is a touch unfair... many people were wishing for the transfer saga to end, and happily for Andrei... for their own and Andrei's peace of mind... because he is the national (footballing) treasure].

- What can I say? Let the people who wanted me to leave be happy. I also respect the opposite point of view, but my life is my life, and I make the decisions in it. I didn't pay attention to the sensationalism. In Dubai I didn't have any internet and I didn't go out of my way to find it. There's always a lot of stories about me, I'm used to that. And if I were to start answering all the questions, there wouldn't be time left for anything else.

- Now there are new difficulties ahead, but of a different nature - to blend in to the new club, to become one of the lads in the new team...

- I don't see what you've listed as problems. I'm starting a new life with new worries, including domestic ones. But I don't see anything bad in it.

-In the morning you've been to the Arsenal training session for the first time. How were you received?

- More than well for it being the first time. With smiles, jokes, questions. I felt accepted.

- Do you think that your transfer story will leave it's mark on the reception of footballer Arshavin by the Arsenal supporters and English football public?

- Don't think so. The transfer racket is usually quickly forgotten and the footballer is measured in any part of the world by his play.

- With wich feeling are you leaving Zenit?

- I think it's not necessary to talk much about it right now. For a while I'm leaving my native, beloved city where I have spent my whole previous life. I want to say a huge thank you to all those fans, who were worrying about me throughout my career, who supported me. I wouldn't have made it as a footballer without this support. I grew up in Zenit, gave a part of my soul to this team, here I went from being a newbie to a national team player. Because of this I am grateful to this club.

- Are you going to the national team's camp? [Hiddink is going to make them work without any friendlies - a get-together while the Russian league hasn't started]

- Aleksandr Genrihovich [Borodyuk - Hiddink's assistent with the national team] called me and we discussed the development of the situation. We agreed, that if everything's gonna go through [the transfer, obviously] I most probably won't go to the February training camp. I'll have to call him now and make a final decision.

- What will you be doing in the following 3 days?

- First of all I need to get a work [permit/visa - dunno if there's a difference]. Now I'm going to Piter to sort out a few formalities and get my things, and then I'll return to London as soon as I can.

- Will you be ready for the Tottenham match?

- I'll be in London for this game for sure. But it's doubtful if I'm even in the squad [for the game] right away. But after that I'll do everything I can to be included as soon as possible.

- You and Roman Pavlyuchenko are in rival clubs agaon - Arsenal and Tottenham derby is probably even more fierce than that of Zenit and Spartak in Russia...

- Yes, but now I'll be the one in red and white (laughs).

- If you're seen on the town together, the fans might not be very understanding... did you get in touch already?

- I didn't talk to Roma yet, but will definitely call him, when everything's setteled down. But his wife Larisa called Yulia [Shava's wife - accordingly] several times, tried to support her, asked when we are going to come and visit.

- How is your English? I remember that you gave an interview in this language already during the European Championship.

- It's hard to evaluate your ownlanguage level. Already here, in london, I gave three or four interviews in English. It's clear that it's doubtful I talked clean and absolutely proper English, but, I think they understood me. In any case, only a few times during those conversations did I have to get help from interpreter. Naturally, I'll be perfecting it.

- Why did you choose the 23rd number?

- When I got to London, I was given Arsenal match programmes and I looked right away which numbers were available. They were - 6, 13, 23 29 and several bigger ones. Six is too small a number for a forward, number 13 has bad reputation. 23 was quite acceptable.

- Have you thought of a dwelling and domestic life?

- For now I'll be living in a hotel, and then we'll see.

- Will you bring the family over to london soon?

- No, I haven't thought about it yet - everything's just ended. First some kind of order has to be set in this new life, and only then bring over Yulia with the kids. Furthermore, they're in Australia right now.

- Was Yulia very worried during the last days?

- Naturally. And she was on the other side of the planet as well, many time zones away and usually received the news at night. So she almost hasn't slept. Yulia said that it's dragging on for so long and it's so hard, that soon she'll lose all her hair. But the happy ending compensated for everything.
