There are a few sites out there which use their own modified version of the digimon logo for their site, so I figured I'd make us one. It's just a prototype for now, nowhere near finished but I want feedback to make it better. It needs more colour but I'm not sure what colour

Hate to be a downer but it doesn't do much for me. Primely the background and the Digimon text are too close in color, and the random un-need textures in the background makes Digimon and the background fade together. The Chaotic Destini is okay, but cold stand to be a bit bigger and centered.

I'd suggest using yellow or light orange for either the background or word Dgimon. (yellow and orange are purple's complementary colors. Yellow of middle of the road purple, and light orange for bluer purples)

Full Discloser: I'm not a huge fan of the basic Digimon Logo as it stands, very dull. Well technically it's only the American version of the logo, Japan has had a bunch of different ones over the years, But I digresses.

I think that orange and yellow are too bright to match the DCD atmosphere, but that may be just me...

Yeah, are we really a yellow bunch of people? That was my thought (it was yellow/gold originally) then I changed it. Here's how it looks with gold (Actually I think I like it like this)

You can have darker orange, just something to contrast against blue, because he's right; the word 'Digimon' gets lost in the rest of the logo colors. On my monitor, at a glance the M looks smeared and the middle of most of the letters looks the same.

At the least there should be more of a light/dark contrast between the word and the background, if not a full color contrast. Just something that would actually make the words pop.

Although overall I don't think we really need a logo to begin with...

Well a logo has two missions, too communicate an emotional idea, and to be easily read. Of the two the second is more important. Which your gold one is far better at.

On the other hand I think your underestimating orange here. A good dark orange carefully added can both add interest and drama to a picture or logo and still keep a dark or somber mood. The trouble here is the basic Digimon logo. It's both dull and bold at the same time. If your just using that only re-colored there's no room for subtly to really pull any thing off.

In fact I feel the basic logo simply isn't that good a match for the site, no matter what background you put it on.

Hmmm, what a sec there is one more english Digimon logo that I can think off, the original from the first batch of Digimon V-pets, wait a sec...

logo

Well it's bit better, got far more energy to it, and the slightly vicious quality it has could work slightly better for the site. But that's just me.

I forgot about the colour gold... It definitely fits now that I look at it. Hmm... Whatever works does after all...

On another subject... I have never seen that old Digimon logo before...

Hmm yeah, I saw that whilst looking for a template to base the logo on, I'll do something with that tomorrow, it's been a while since I've done much graphics so I'm just getting back into it.
For now, here's Orange

Not surprising it was fazed out quite quickly. Seeing how America and Europe only got the very fist of the V-pets and once the Anime started the naturally wanted the merchandise to use its logo.

^^ Yay logos!

We should try affiliating with some other sites. There's apparently a really good Bleach site (I tried getting into bleach, I admit, and I didn't like it at all) that might draw some crowds for us.

Now this one I like a lot more... It's definitely not as plain as the original one was. I salute your skills with whatever technology you used to make this. Then again, I seemed to be easily impressed...

If you can get rid of the angry monster face in the O of the logo, it'd be better; 'angry monster face' seems a bit juvenile.

And we wouldn't want people thinking writing about made up people with pet monsters in a computer world is juvenile. ;)

I really wouldn't say it is. Much as I wouldn't say Pokemon is a juvenile hobby, either. All depends on how you treat it. This is a pretty mature game (in terms of how people tend to handle themselves) and the silly 'scary face' seems kinda counter-intuitive. It's like "Grr we're a hardcore Digimon game GRR FEAR ME!"

Still not convinced about needing a logo to begin with, though.

it makes perfect sense in the context of the times. Digimon is/was the tamagotchi for boys, and in 1997 in the US the Tamagotchi was monster raising. Pokemon wasn't hitting the USA till the next year and the anime that spurred it to it's dominance of the monster raising genre had only just stated in Japan, so it wasn't really a competitor yet. Now well boys did play with the Tamagotchi is still had the air of girly, and lets face it the fact that Digimon was a type of Tamagotchi was obvious so the logo was created to help re-enforce the masculinity of the product.

As for us needing a Logo, I don't really have an opinion, but well if something is worth doing it's worth doing right!

At the time. It's not appropriate for DCD, though.

I'd always imagined a DCD logo as the regular 'DIGIMON' text with a thick outlined, superflat/cutout D-Tainer (sans buttons) behind it, and 'chaotic destini' centred just below it in a smaller, more rounded and refined, or more jagged (up/down) font. Not sure about the colours. The 'DIGIMON' would need to stand out in a bright saturated colour. The 'chaotic destini' in a darker, more subtle colour, but still fairly saturated, and the same with the cutout D-Tainer. Various dark blues, black-ish blues and saturated dark purples seem to come to mind.

I could make a mock-up if I was A) not half-asleep, and B) not used to CS4, which I imagine would mess me up royally if I try to use GIMP after such a long time.

A more fitting logo might have words formed of jagged bones and rusty metal laced with the remains of flesh and tendon, viscous black ooze dripping off to form a pool beneath them.

Personally, I don't feel up to crafting such a logo. Not sure I could stomach it. ^_^

Wuss. >.>

I'd absolutely do this if I didn't suck at graphic design.
