I'm afraid I'm going to have to drop off the radar until the afternoon of the 6th, which is after when my Net+ cert exam is (the exam is around noon). Let me tell you, trying to memorize 600+ questions is not easy, considering I'm on One-hundred sixty something. Here's an example: Certkiller .com has a Fast Ethernet network. What is the maximum data transfer rate supported by this network? A. 10 Mbps (mega bits per second) B. 100 Mbps C. 1000 Mbps D. 10 Gbps (Giga bits per second) The answer, for the sake of it, is B. ------------------------------------------ What is the maximum data transfer rate supported by 100Base-FX and 100Base-TX? A. 10 Mbps (mega bits per second) B. 100 Mbps C. 1000 Mbps D. 10 Gbps (Giga bits per second) Again, the answer is B. So...yea...wish me luck on this one. This is probably going to be the most difficult one I've taken so far. |

Yeah, it sounds pretty rough based on those two questions. I say that because I would never have the patience to remember a bunch of little details. I would rather go read a book about it. |

That's nothing. Which of the following is responsible for resolving a NetBIOS name to an IP address? A. ARP B. DNS C. DHCP D. WINS In this case, it's D ----------------------- Which of the following does not provide name resolution? A. ARP B. DNS C. DHCP D. WINS Answer-C --------------- You are a seinor network administrator at Certkiller .com (I wish). A trainee wants to know which of the following statements is correct, with regard to TCP and UDP. A. TCP is connection-oriented, UDP is reliable B. TCP is connectionless, UDP is unreliable C. TCP is connection-oriented, UDP is unreliable D. TCP is connectionless, UDP is reliable Answer-C ------------------------------- So...going with B all th time wouldn' be great. -------------------- How I learned about TCP and UDP was interesting. Both send packets of data from one computer to another. The difference is what happens when the connection gets broken. ^_^ Unfortunately, I don't think it would be appropriate to give the example that I was given, seeing as I have no idea how old people are on here... |

Well, I'm on question 405, the test is tomorrow and my head hurts. I guess I'm only going to be able to go a bit farther before I'll have to call it quits. I pray that I pass this test and am able to move on with things. Failing will mean another $120 out of my pocket to try and take it again. Yea, you have to pay to take these IT tests... Wish me luck tomorrow. I'm gona need it like no one's business... |

Two words: No dice. 695/720 was the score I got. :'( Thing was, about 3/4 if the questions were on things I had never seen before, or they were on Cisco stuff. Most of the time, I was playing Process of elemination. I need to find the study guide for the 2009 version. The 2007 version only helped me answer maybe 15 out of the 100 questions on that thing. This does mean, though, that I will be a bit more active until before the next test, which is presently unknown. I have to wait until the vouchers come in...which could be a while. |

You only missed out on 25 right answers, and you failed... man, that test is hard, but I guess you have to know your stuff for the job. That said, you had an outdated book, and memorising that many answers is brilliant. So, don't be discouraged! You were very close to full marks... and I'd wager non of us could do better... maybe even a few of us combined. |

Yea...thing is...study guides for the updated test cost $50+. Another thing that bugs me is that I second-guessed myself on 1 question. Not that it would have made much of a difference. Also note that some questions were not marked, but were used for other means. Also, the score was from 100 to 900. Chances were that, out of the 100 questions, 90 were actually scored, meaning each question was 10 points a piece. 695...If I hadn't second guessed, it would have 705...at which point I would have been seriously kicking myself. Eh...I guess I'll pass when I was meant to pass.... |

.... you got a score that good, using outdated information, on stuff you didn't know about? That's actually quite impressive. |

Thanks, Alex. Hopefully, with a bit more studying, I'll be able to pass the exam... |
