Like Wisp, I've been looking into building a new computer with a strong focus on reliability and performance. I've been looking through parts and after reading some of Arkley's replies, I've been considering an AMD processor (I've always gone Intel - it's just how I was raised). So here's what I'm going to do. I'll post some of the parts that I've been looking at. Say yay or nay. ===================================== Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819103244 OR Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115017 Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817182072 ===================================== Next post we'll talk Graphics Cards... |

Let's talk Video cards... Too Much? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814143119 Too Little? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814130329 Just right? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814150253 Or Wrong Company? ATI vs Nvidia. Anyone want to argue? Next post... motherboards (a topic which I know little to nothing about - please HELP!) |

I think either processor would be fine, but the power supply is overkill, and try staying away from Rosewill. As for the video card, stay with nVidia, but if you're willing to wait some, you should get a 9800 card. |

I would go with Intel, no specific reason why.. I say f..k ATI, they are not as good as Nvidia, and I would wait a little, 9 series is coming out soon and 8 series should drop in price (thats what I am doing). I would go with EVGA only because I've heard they have a great customer service and replacement plans. And that ps looks unreliable. I would go with Antec |

J'suis d'accord avec Versus. I'm partial to AMD as they tend to be cheaper and faster at the mid to upper mid range while Intel has 20 core monstrosoties for upwards of $2K. Also keep in mind that currently very few programs even take advantage of dual core, let a lone quad core, architecture and it will likely be quite some time before having multiple cores will actually be of practical use. Like we're going to be using VR and controlling games with our minds kind of long time. But again, if you guys really want good advice go post on themachine as well. Seriously, there's a couple of excellent tech heads over there (not to slight the guys on this forum who are all, except for Brad and Cheesus, awesome and quite knowledgeable). |

Both companies make great cards. No fanboyism over here! I've simply found comparable Nvidia cards for cheaper than the ATI counterpart in the past, but that was quite some time ago so maybe that's changed. Can't really go wrong with either company unless you're hot to trot for something real specific that would differentiate them. |

AMD has fallen behind both Intel and NVidia. Nvidia's stuff is better. Even Valve is partnered with Nvidia now, which is insane to think if you were around before HL2 came out. |
