Nolan contacted me yesterday and asked me to round up a team in order to face the fearsome....Delectable Meats. That scrim ended up not happening, but instead we did it today. Nolan played with us once again, along with Brad, Ghost, Eric, a non-TC member by the name of Cykez, and myself. The map was Well, which we have spent the majority of our time practicing on. I came in expecting to get rolled, but learn some valuable lessons on TF2.

Instead, we really got rolled and didn't learn a thing except that they were better then I thought. A minute in I was already getting dominated by Pokey, and there wasn't a round that lasted more then 3 minutes. The total score was 5-0, although Ghost had to restart his computer midway through so with him it might have been 4-0. Apparently they got bored, and left. All in all, it was a really exciting fun ten minutes where half the time was spent dead.

I did get to play with dm in a scrim against bloc on a custom map called Junction, which was very fun. The map is similar to Gravelpit with A&B needed to be capped before C can be taken. We were winning against them at first, but we sort of lost it in the end and they were able to hold C by pinning us back with sticky spam. A well placed sentry caused us trouble too, and when we attempted to uber in they were ready for us and counter-ubered. The map though, has short rounds and tight cooridors, making the Pyro a formidable opponent (Cheesus, this is YOUR map). A little cramped for the 8v8 match we played, it was still fun. I would definetly like to try it again on 6v6. We should ask Nolan to get in on the private server.

So all in all, it was a brief night with nothing very exciting to report.

I had a feeling this would happen...can I say luckily I was working that night?
But it's going to take time for us to get better, become more comfortable with each other. Confidence is huge so once we get some wins under our belt we'll be fine!

We did take a demo, but didn't bother to watch it because we all game to the general conclusion that it isn't any small nitpicky details that we need to improve upon. We just need to learn how to play TF2 better, plain and simple. Better cohesion, better aiming, better retreating, better uber pushes, better everything.

what went wrong is TC went against the wrong team :D
It was way too early to play dm. And TC members need to train more on pub servers with the classes they are playing in scrim. Polish their skills in other words.

I disagree with you. Not playing against DM would be a mistake, on the off chance that we learn something valuable. What happened is they came in there with a serious attitude, and we expected to get slaughtered, but fool around and maybe them offer us some critical advice. They just sort of all quit and said 'gg'. We don't have the connections at this point to get real scrims together, and I don't consider IRC an effective tool for getting scrims. It's impossible to judge how good the opponent will be. Playing on the pub too, I find doesn't make for good practice. We need to do more internal scrims and get the squads together so we can really get familiar with everyone. In order to do that we really need a lot of activity from our clan members on a consistent basis each night so we can make strides. At the moment, we have some very active members, Versus, Cheesus, Brad, Ghost, Cadenza, Erzhik, HeatSeeker, Eric, etc. but then are some not so active memebers like MP3, Pankzers, and Meteora. We need everyone to be there each night. It's a lot to ask, but I think it is necessary to advance past this early stage.

Disagree. You need 6 - 8 active regulars. Any over that and you've got people arguing about who is on the team, people being left out, and feelings getting hurt.

Well, since this is a game and real life > game, I personally can't commit to play every evening. Even if I could afford the time, to actually do so would be generally very unhealthy and overall just a bad idea - kinda like WoW, lol

So, I think something more like two or three times a week is more reasonable. We don't honestly want to sacrifice our lives to the goal of ultimate TF2 glory... do we?

If I'm alone on this, well I still can't commit the time and I guess I'd drop out or whatever. :(

That's why we have squads and we have seperate scrims going on at once. What happens when the non regulars want to play and they aren't familiar with the rest of us and to be completely honest, don't perform as well.

In the future, I'll start these topics as closed and make a seperate discussion topic in the private forums so we don't debate around others.
