Overheating Computer

This issue has me puzzled. Earlier today my computer spiked from a comfortable 40C (according to Speed Fan) to 100C. As I was asking for help online my computer completely shut down and all attempts to turn it on resulted in it shutting off a few seconds later. I unplugged the computer, open it up and tried to figure out what the deal was. But I know next to nothing about computers and couldn't figure it out. So I let it cool off for an hour, and then plugged it back in. I turn it on and its 90C, and then it crashes again. Another hour goes by and I turn it on, and its at 80C. Speed Fan shows it rising 1C every two or three seconds, so I hastily shut it down. My computer has never done this before and I'm pretty concerned.

What should I do?

It's either a shot CPU or Motherboard. Try taking it in to a computer tech place and see what they say. Hopefully it's a shot motherboard because those are a lot cheaper than a CPU.

P.S. This is My last post til next saturday, I'm going camping, so hopefully someone else can help.

P.P.S. I had the same problem, but it was my motherboard AND CPU that were shot, but I took it in to Fry's, and it was under warranty so they replaced, and upgraded both for free.

take off the side of your case, turn on the computer and see if the cpu fan is spinning. if it isn't, turn computer off, unplug/unscrew the fan and get a replacement from your local computer store.
