Ok, moving along to Assignment 8, this is something I've already got memorized so will just go ahead and post it. Then I think I'm done with the requirement for 7 and 8. Our Father, who art in Heaven, Halloed be thy name, thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will be Done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who tresspass against us. And lead us not into temptation , but deliver us from evil. Amen |

With respect I would like to ask to be excused from the requirement on Youngling Lesson 9. My reason is two-fold. For one it is assumed that the person training here is a teenager or young person struggling with obedience and hormone problems. I am not in that category. Secondly, it is about meditating on scriptures that will assist us to get through our issues. It is my belief that such meditation is very important, but it is something that should be by an individual on individual choice of what they find their own issues to be and I would think that the scripture meditated upon should be one chosen by the person doing it. I am also not in agreement with this having to be memorized as all through life our issues change. I am also in college and working on a program that involves a lot of memorization which at this point in life is more important for me to do. So I respectfully ask to be excused from this requirement. |

Assignment 10 This was interesting to read this interpretation of the Code. I found it very insightfull and learned from it. Especially the idea of there being a hidden meaning in the line "There is no Ignorance; there is Knowledge". That is something that I think I've always felt, but never really been able to verbalize. So I first just wanted to take this moment and say thank you for that lesson. I'll go on with my own evaluation of the Code: There is no emotion, there is peace This one is often times interpreted to be that Jedi have no emotion. Obviously, that isn't the case. Even in the movies that isn't the case as we do see them use emotions. However, a Jedi practices discipline in their emotions so that emotion does not impede their performance in life. They constantly seek to be aware of their emotional state and use that awareness to minimize the negative impact their emotions might have. The Jedi uses emotional discipline to overcome obstacles in situations where strong emotion may impede their goal. But this does not mean that a Jedi has to walk around in a state of "Jedi calm" all the time. Though I think that with practice, the Jedi does become a more calm person and finds it easier to manage their emotions with practice. There is no ignorance, there is knowledge Obviously no one can know everything, but I think this really speaks of a certain attitude that Jedi cultivate. A certain value they place on having knowledge and the importance of continuing to strive toward having wisdom. Knowlege itself is not the same as wisdom. Yet knowledge is the beginning of wisdom. Learning is something that goes on forever. Jedi embrace that. Then, as I said in my intro, I am thankfull to be able to realize this also means to cultivate the gift of Spiritual wisdom, thus plugging into God's wisdom. There is no passion, there is serenity This one I think is important to distinguish between positive and negative passion. What is a passion? A passion can be a good or a bad thing. An artist who is passionate about his work is not doing anything wrong, for example. That is a good passion. I think the main thing here is that a passion taken to the extreme can become an obsession. So really this might be better understood as "There is no obsession, there is serenity." There is no death, there is the Force Death is an illusion. It's a temporary state. We like to identify our physical body as being who we are, what we are. However I don't see that as being the real truth. In truth, we are much more than our physical body. Our physical body is a casing that holds us while we are here on this earth. Yes, we are made in the image of God, and the body is part of that image, but it is a temporary image. It will change. It is like the cocoon that holds the butterfly, but it is not the butterfly. I'm reminded of the scripture that talks about the mirror, how now we see things as if looking in a mirror, but later we will see God face to face. The body is a mirror image. It is not the real us. Thus, death really is an illusion. |

You have done a good job Annafea, only one thing, you forgot the end of the Lord's Prayer but if I remember right you said you are a Catholic, like I am, and I know we say the last part only after the Priest said his part, just remember it is part of the prayer. I especially like your interpretation of the last line of the Code. I trust you to choose the Scriptures which are best for you to meditate on in that moment, I will refer to the Council your request of skipping Assignment 9 but I don't think there will be problems about it, you are a serious Jedi. Oh yeah! There is a second part to it. Sorry, wasn't sure that was supposed to be in here, but it's: For thine is the Kingdom and the Glory and the Power both now and Forever, Amen. |

About assignment 9, do you think the Council would approve of me substituting Psalm 23? Psalm 23 A psalm of David. 1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. |

You don't need to memorize the verses for Assignment 9, but I would ask that you meditate on them and post a response regarding whether God has shown you anything different in the particular translation than any other that you might be familiar with. Your other responses are very good! |

Assignment 9 For the first scripture, Ephesians 5:1-2 That does put an interesting emphasis on extravant love. I think the world teaches us indirectly to love cautiously. So this is really counter to what is natural for us to do. I like the word extravagant. To go beyond the ordinary. So Jedi. When I meditated on it, I kind of found myself squirming. I think because I feel inadequate to the task. So I put that feeling in my prayer. Told the Lord I felt incapable of loving extravagantly. It's a challenge. The word I received was "If I gift you, then you can." So that impression reminds me of the fact that we do things through the power of God who helps us. It is not something we can do using only our own power. But the word extravagant does make me think of it entirely in a different way. Love like a Jedi - with determination and the do or do not thinking, aiming not for good enough, but for beyond that. For the second Scripture, Matthew 5:21-22 On this one about our words and how they have power. I've studied this phenomena before. Words can heal and words can kill. When Jesus healed he used words. When God created the world he used words. When Jesus cursed the fig tree He used words. What I got upon meditating on it was the fact that disprespect hurts too. That was a personal correction for me in order to let me know that an attitude of disrespect can be just as harmful as a word. We can speak without using our mouth. Our non-verbal communication counts too. For the third scripture, Colossians 3:5-8 The wording here reminds me of Yoda saying to unlearn everything we have learned. I also saw a TV program recently that seemed to go with this. It was about Archaology of Bible sites, etc, and they were talking having found some cities they think could possibly be the remains of Sodom and Gomorah. They were talking about how when Lot's wife looked back and was turned to salt that a lot of the meaning to that story is that to look back signified when a person quits a sinful way of life they have a tendency to sort of miss that. To look back and miss their sinful nature. Another interesting thing on my study of this scripture was that I have two other Bibles at home and I usually look things up in both to compare different versions. One of them states "put off whatever is rooted in Earth." I don't quite know what that means to me yet, but it struck me and has been germinating around in my mind. In meditation what I received from the Lord was kind of strange and I'm still trying to discern it. Two words, or phrases I guess. One was "Remove the noose. There are no chains." The other "Would you be my Son if I asked you?" On the second one I kind of raised an objection and said I couldn't possibly see myself as God. The response I got was "Niether did He." Which reminds me of the scripture in which it was said that Jesus did not deem equality with God as something to be grasped at. Anyway, I'm still discernining all that. It will probably make more sense later if I put it away and wait until I have learned more to look at it again. Over all I had a general feeling of what I learned being along the lines of learning to go beyond the natural and look into the supernatural world for strength in these situations. Especially the first one. |

That is a terrific response, Annafea. I knew you would get something out of Assignment 9. You were even able to use it as a lesson for the rest of us. This is something that Quakers do all the time. Sharing insights you receive from God for the benefit of others. It is what our "Silent Worship" is all about. |

I kind of got off track with my meditation assignment and I think I'll just kind of start the week over again because I'd done two days in which I took notes and the rest of the week sort of meditated on the fly. So I think I'll start over and try to get a good week in. |

No problem. I spent last month leading my Wednesday night Bible study through basically the same meditation exercises that we are doing here. I got off track one week too. And I was the teacher. |

Have been away for a while so I'm sort of off track. I think I'll take some time to sort of review up to where I was before trying to go on. I probably forgot some of the things I learned. |
