Hello, sorry to interrupt, but just wanted to say welcome as I have been absent for a while. Am happy to see another oldster here. I am 44 (I believe?) myself so am older than a lot of the other Jedi. :D

A very belated greetings to you. So sorry I didn't say something much sooner.

KNIGHT’S LESSON 1:

Their Fire Has Vanished: Power, Elitism and the Fall of the Jedi

I read this but do not agree with it. From how the author wrote he seemed to come from a very negative view. It seems he was looking at it from the view of the “glass is half empty instead of seeing the positives.” When I saw The Phantom Menace I was very much & am still impressed by the Jedi. That’s one reason I became a Jedi. I’m still even after all this time very happy to be a Jedi.
I admit Jedi have their faults---they are human or of various species. Jedi do make mistakes & do their best to make any mission a success. But yet they aimed for peace & protection for the good of others. They did their missions as was requested of them. They did not use their “powers” for their own ends. Please name one person Jedi or not who doesn’t make mistakes at some time or other. Other then Jesus & his Holy Mother there is no one. Jedi have to think on their feet & they do react to their surroundings. If one is being chased by huge machines one might react the same way as the Jedi did.

As far as Jar Jar is concerned I don’t think Obi-Wan was racist, just a bit surprised perhaps at the new species he encountered for the 1st time. After all in the Jedi Order there were not only humans who were members. Kit Fisto to name one, who was not human. We don’t know how Obi-Wan reacted to new races for the 1st time normally & the run through the forest was anything but normal. In abnormal circumstances, abnormal things happen. Master Qui-Gon had the mission on his mind plus he was being chased by those huge machines in a swamp. I know if I was him, I’d have probably gotten a bit irritated myself at 1st.

I dislike the term of “secret police” for the Chancellor being used. They were Ambassadors sent to represent the Chancellor on Naboo as Guardians of the Peace. When one comes into conflict others who aren’t peaceful & negotiations don’t work then one might have to start to play “hard ball” or do “aggressive negotiations”.

Pride hhhmmmm welllll there could be pride showing up in ways here if one wants to treat it as pride. If Jedi were really “proud” they would use their force powers for themselves rather then others. To say that the Jedi mentioned had faults that can be accepted. Jedi have to go on instinct & feeling through the force & be guided by it & that is what they did.
Did they do the best that they could do? Depending on what the information they had at the time, I’m sure mistakes were made but fixed if at all possible. No one is perfect. You look at what is around you, you think, you weigh all the information & then hopefully you make the correct decision. This happens in everyday life.

That the Jedi were “elitist”? depends on what you mean by elitist. Jedi had & used force powers, they trained for a very good chunk of their life to properly use those powers for the service of others. Jedi for the most part did not put themselves before others. I think it’s much like Christians, we are as Christians supposed to be of service to others, we depend on God to help us when we need His help. With that thought in mind we, Christians could be thought as elitists because we have a greater power on our side.
To me an elitist is one who only thinks of themselves & they put themselves so far above others that they can’t even see that there are others below them.

If Jedi could they would help everybody they come in contact with but Jedi know they can only do so much at one time to what needs to be done. If they could have freed the slaves they would have but that was not their primary mission. They did get the chance to free at least one slave & that was because that one slave helped them to have their mission become a bit more successful---in the sense they were able to leave the planet & escape to keep the Queen safe though in the end the primary mission didn’t turn out to be successful from their primary purpose. They did get the Queen to safety so she could plead her case to the Senate.

All one can do when put on a mission is look at everything, change as changes come & adapt. That’s what Master Qui-Gon & Padawan Obi-Wan did---they adapted.

As far as what happened in the future of the Jedi it was a bumpy road. I think that Obi-Wan & Yoda wanted to protect Leia for as long as they could but I’m sure they knew that might not happen. After all they knew the history of Luke & Leia when Luke himself did not know anything.

The Jedi fell not because of the so called elitism but because of the Sith. Yoda said that dark clouds hide the future---which is a Jedi weakness that the Sith knew very well. Palpatine set up the Jedi for the fall because he wanted total power over everyone. Palpatine did not “play fair” with his adversaries he set up the Jedi to be “secret police”, Generals, etc. so he could raise public opinion against them. Palpatine was far more elite then any Jedi.

Well it's time for me to get back to work at posting my lessons.

Knights Lesson 2
COJK KNIGHTS LESSON 2

Did the Jedi Have It Coming?
Why are there so many Jedi in the Old Republic?
The fact of the matter is there were not so many Jedi in the Old Republic. Since the Old Republic in Star Wars was made up of thousands of different worlds in the galaxy there were billions of inhabitants throughout the galaxy. There were only about 10,000 Jedi. Some were healers, Councilors, Teachers, Explorers, Guardians, Sentinels.

The Council
The Jedi Council was a group of 12 Jedi Masters who do their best to oversee & guide the Jedi, send the Jedi on missions. The Jedi Temple also had a tower of antennas that could receive any communication in the galaxy. The Temple was a closed place to outsiders this is true but that was more to protect the young from being distracted from their studies & learning about the dark side before they were ready to learn about it. Jedi learned about outside the Temple once they had been partnered with a Jedi Master who already had the experience of being outside the Temple walls from many missions. Once the Master & Padawan accepted each other then both Master & Padawan did missions together, so that the student got out to see other people & how the galaxy worked. As Yoda mentions in the Jedi Apprentice books, “Once a Master accepts the Padawan then the Padawan accepts the dangers of the mission.” Qui-Gon did not want to take on a Padawan but circumstances threw Qui-Gon & Obi-Wan together & in the end they realized this would be a very good arrangement. This Padawanship lasted a minimum of 10 yrs., some longer as needed. Obi-Wan was 13 when he became a Padawan & was a Padawan till he was about 25 approximately. You could say it was a very long student teaching assignment. The Master & Padawan traveled, slept, lived, ate together for the most part & the Padawan was in constant learning mode while the Master was in constant teaching mode. The Padawan was dependent on their Master for almost everything---much like a Parent & child. The Master decided along with the Jedi Council when a Padawan was ready to be given the Trials & Knighted. So Jedi got to know all the species in the galaxy quite well. The Jedi had to know so much from all aspects of life, language, physical abilities & their ability to use the force that in most parts of the galaxy the Jedi were considered special & honored for their peace making abilities.

Slavery
When Qui-Gon & Obi-Wan came to Tatooine they may not have been aBare of the fact that there was slavery there. They were aware that Tatooine was controlled by the Hutts. The Jedi did not turn a blind eye to slavery because they believe in the rights of others but they were on a specific mission from the Chancellor after which they would have informed the Senate & the Jedi Council to see what could be done to help. But Shmi & Watto both mention that in Tatooine the Republic had no control there---example Tatooine didn’t take Republic Credits. So the government of the Republic ruling ability to control anything & Jedi are representatives of the Republic so they were not able to do much.
That would have to have been debated by the Jedi Council & at the request of the Chancellor or the people of Naboo. Jedi did not go into any situation unless invited to do so by those who had the problem or told to do so by the Jedi Council who were asked by those in need.

Seeing your own shadow
Jedi do not jump into situations without 1st meditating upon it. A Jedi will do their best to make sure what they are seeing & hearing is the truth. Facts are needed before decisions can be made. It’s true that sometimes one has all the facts & things happen before things have been figured out---it happens in real life all the time.
When Jedi were on mission & changes happened then they might not have all the facts.
Jedi studied who the Sith were & they didn’t retreat from the discovery. They wanted to make sure they knew who the Sith was. One doesn’t just go around accusing anyone, just because of suspicion of being of the dark side or Sith. If there is only 1 Master & 1 student it would not be easy to figure out who that one was . Those of the Sith or dark side like to hide themselves & do things in the shadows away from the light.

Bred in the bone
No. It was Anakin’s choices in life that caused him to fall. He was a very stubborn young man who wanted things his own way. He was arrogant with his force powers. He did not like to feel loss of anything. He lost his mother, not through his actions but others & he couldn’t forgive those others that hurt her & him & then he couldn’t forgive himself. The thought of losing Padme was almost unbearable to him because he was more attached to her then to being Jedi. He had to be reminded of his duty.

Those who can't, teach
As far as Jedi raising Jedi from babyhood that was more to protect the youngling from learning the dark side then anything else. Was it wrong not to take older ones---that could be debatable---no group is perfect in who they choose.
Is the outside world contradictory to Jedi philosophy & practice? The outside world has many distractions & when one is training it is good to be able to focus on what one needs to know. When one is ready to accept the distractions then one can go out into the world.
When Luke started his Academy he had to start with older students & it all worked out.
The Force does surround & penetrate all things. There were parents who did refuse to let their children go with the Jedi for training & some of the children did very well & sometimes the children would feel the force & have no idea what it was & would frightened by their abilities that they were untrained for. Children who did have force abilities were rare in the Republic & the Jedi at least had a place to train those children with force abilities. There were children who never learned about the force & the powers of the force might not ever manifest itself during the child’s lifetime. Princess Leia didn’t learn to feel the force till much later in life. Luke didn’t know about it until Ben taught him. Sometime if you don’t know about something then you ignore it.

Serve the Force or the Council, but not both
Situations like this happen in life. A young couple gets married for the 1st time, have their 1st child & have to learn to wing it on how to train their youngling. So to with Jedi Padawans who become Knights. They fall back on what they learn from their Jedi Masters to help teach their own Padawans. Every parent has their own way of teaching another—sometimes good, sometimes bad. It’s a daily training experience when both are learning. Obi-Wan was trained by Qui-Gon, then he in turn probably did his best to train Anakin like Qui-Gon taught him, it just made sense. True Yoda had misgivings but the Jedi Council made the decision. Obi-Wan did promise Qui-Gon at the request of his Master that Anakin be trained. Obi-Wan was doing his best to fulfill his Master’s last request---that is something most people do. If Obi-Wan would have been free to choose his future Padawan he might not have chosen Anakin but he did do his best & Anakin did look at Obi-Wan has his father figure.

Branch Yodavidian
Yoda rejects Anakin -- and later tries to reject Luke -- because he claims the boy is too old to begin the training. Nonetheless, both candidates become capable Force users in their own right. Is the age problem a question of fitness, or control?

I will repeat what I said earlier Jedi usually accepted babies because they weren’t affected by the dark side of the force & could be protected. Anakin on the other hand had been a slave so you could say he had “baggage” that he brought with him. It’s a possibility that Anakin, if his force powers came to light to him might have terrified him & that could have also caused him to go over the edge. But as he had the chance to be trained & was trained very well he made adult choices as to what was going to happen. No matter who is your teacher, when one is an adult you have to make your own choices coming from within yourself.

"Not again, Master"
Qui-Gon is very independent. He does have his own way of thinking but he is still very much a Jedi Knight who is highly regarded by many in the Jedi Order. He goes on whatever missions he’s told to go on & most likely does the missions his own way. He has strong belief in the living force so he is constantly guided by the force as to what to do & he does it even if it meets with resistance from others. When he dies & does not disappear that means nothing. In the arena in AOTC many Jedi died & none of them disappeared. Qui-Gon wants what’s best for Anakin because Anakin did go out of his way to help those who were in need of help. If Qui-Gon could have known what the future would bring his decision to bring Anakin to the Jedi might have been different but even all Jedi could foresee the future.

The circle is now complete
The force is the force. Whoever feels the force & uses its powers through them may be light or dark but it’s more the choice of the individual who does the using. Luke gained experience quickly but it all takes time to gain wisdom. So whoever is a force user if they are good will be of the light as the Jedi were. If whoever uses the force for evil will be of the dark side like the Sith were.

Knight Lesson 3: Obi-Wan's Sin of Pride:
The Obi-Wan Complex: Kenobi's Sin of Pride

Wandering in the desert
Obi-Wan was the Padawan of Master Qui-Gon Jinn. He was very conscious of obeying his Master’s orders no matter what, as every Padawan is required to do till they become a Jedi Knight in their own right. Qui-Gon’s last order to Obi-Wan was to “train the boy”. Obi-Wan promised that he would do that. Obi-Wan was Knighted by Yoda & the Jedi Council agreed to let Obi-Wan train Anakin. True Yoda was against it but he also bowed to the will of the Jedi Council. Obi-Wan’s desire was to fulfill his Master’s dying wish. A dying wish is something that anyone is required to fulfill. Obi-Wan did his best to train Anakin to the best of his ability. He probably used many of the techniques that Qui-Gon taught him when he was a Padawan, which is only natural. During the Clone Wars after Anakin became Knighted the both of them worked very well together as a team for several years. When Anakin turned to the dark side, Obi-Wan was crushed by the very thought that his former student turned to the dark side & did horrible things by being part of the Jedi purge, but he also knew that Anakin had to be stopped, which he made his best attempt to do. Obi-Wan had to live with all his memories & in Last of the Jedi books it says that Obi-Wan was so crushed by the horror & grief of what happened that he aged over night & his hair turned white. He blamed himself that Anakin turned to the dark side. It took Obi-Wan much time to accept what had happened & that it was Anakin’s choices, not what Obi-Wan did, but something like that is never forgotten. While he did his soul searching on Tatooine, while watching over Luke, he probably did think it was pride that caused all this. Anakin, after he was Knighted was at 1st a very good Jedi Knight, even though he was secretly married to Padme. He did what he was required to do & worked well with Obi-Wan as an equal during the Clone Wars. Anakin had enough time between his Knighting & choosing to go to the dark side to have made all these choices on his own. Anakin made those choices & the Clone War probably didn’t help anything with anyone. Now if Anakin had turned to the dark side right after he’d been Knighted then maybe Obi-Wan could have considered be responsible but it happened about 4 or so years later & in that time a Knight has chosen their own path of how to go. It was Anakin’s choice not to confide in Obi-Wan when he had problems. Obi-Wan was a true Jedi Knight & Anakin knew he was disobeying the Jedi rule of getting married. All of these were Anakin’s choices.
That Obi-Wan was in the desert was more because of watching over Luke then penance but because of the purge, he suffered much from all his memories as anyone will who has lost so many they were close to.
The great sacrifice
It was Yoda’s wish that the twins be separated at birth & it was decided that Obi-Wan should deliver Luke to Luke’s family on Tatooine. Obi-Wan put himself into exile to watch over Luke. Luke’s family didn’t want to have anything to do with Obi-Wan. They considered Obi-Wan to be a “crazy old hermit”. Obi-Wan wanted Luke to have a normal childhood of simply growing up with a set of parents. Yoda said they would have to wait till the time was right for the twins to grow up this way the twins were hidden from their father.

Puppets of the Force
The force is energy that all Jedi could feel & sense. Jedi were rare because of this ability to feel the force due to the midiclorian counts within them. Depending on whom the Jedi was that Jedi could do many wondrous things because the Jedi allowed the force to flow through them to help them sense, feel & connect with the force & because of that it heightened their senses to everything around them & all this took much training to accept & to use the powers the force gave them.
Some people in the Republic had those senses with the force & never got trained because their parents didn’t want them to be trained. Of those some would accidentally tap into force powers & get terrified about it & some would simply ignore it. Others were anxious to have their young trained by the Jedi so that their young could grow up using their force powers to be of service to others. They felt it was a great honor for any member of their family to be able to become a Jedi. Parents would ask the Jedi Temple to send Masters or Knights to them to test their child if the parents suspected the child may sense the force. The Jedi would ask the parents permission to take the child back to the Temple to train & it was up to the parents to say yes or no. No parents were forced to do this. This of course was before Palpatine took on so much power. It was he & his minions that caused much misinformation to be spread about the Jedi. It’s true the Jedi Temple was closed to the public but that was more for the protection of the very young then the Jedi in general. Jedi Masters, Knights & Padawans were all over the place when asked to serve the Republic.
When a person knows nothing of the force, chances were that they don’t even know they had the force powers---like Luke. He had know idea what the force was till Obi-Wan mentioned it & then it took time for Luke to accept the fact that he even could feel the force. Leia was even slower then Luke, even when she became aware of the force. So Jedi weren’t the puppets of the force. Those rare people who became Jedi wanted to feel the force so that through the force they could serve others & be guardians of peace in the galaxy.
Master, it is too much for me
Qui-Gon listened to the living force which he would do things as they came up. He was very attuned to the now of doing things. Qui-Gon would have taken on Anakin as a Padawan, if he would have been permitted to because he knew Obi-Wan was ready to become a Jedi Knight in his own right. In other words Obi-Wan was ready to stand on his own feet as a Jedi Knight.
Obi-Wan realizes the task is huge that he has to undertake in training Anakin, but he was more then willing to fulfill his Master’s dying wish. Obliviously Qui-Gon had all that faith in his Padawan that Obi-Wan could do this or Qui-Gon probably would have asked Obi-Wan to ask the Jedi Council to give Anakin to a different Master.

Campbell and the Greeks
Anakin made choices, some good, and some bad as all humans do. He was successful in so much but then gave it all up for power by turning to evil. Sadly the evil had to be destroyed & Anakin because of his bad choices fell badly & had to suffer with the memories of all he had lost & of course he had to blame somebody & that somebody was Obi-Wan. Anyone who is deeply hurt, angry & who loses everything will turn around & hurt those closest to them. That happens to many. Anakin suffered in anger & lashed out at anyone who got in his way.
Obi-Wan had to live with all his memories of who & what he was. How he lived, what he did & who he lost. But Obi-Wan did not turn around & attempt to destroy those who were closest to him. He, rather, chose to suffer in silence & alone. He was a Jedi Knight & did his duty by watching over Luke in the best way he could.

Flaws tragic in retrospect
In The Phantom Menace Obi-Wan was still a very young man at the end of his Padawanship & most young people will say brash things. He was still under the tutledge of his Master but very close to doing Jedi Trials. Most young persons say things that might seem inappropriate at certain times but he was attempting to get across to Jar Jar that things were quite serious with what was happening. Jar Jar was terrified out of his wits & Obi-Wan had just run away from being blasted at, so sometimes even then things are said just out of being tired & frustrated. Obi-Wan had allowed his lightsaber to short out because he failed to turn off the power switch, something it seems that Qui-Gon drummed into Obi-Wan’s head frequently---it’s mentioned in the TPM novel. Both Qui-Gon & Obi-Wan were on a special mission & didn’t really want to get “saddled” with Jar Jar but they quickly caught themselves up & worked with Jar Jar.

The end of the story
In the end Obi-Wan did his best for Anakin. Otherwise they wouldn’t have become a team after Anakin grew up. Anakin realizes that Obi-Wan was as close to father to him as he could possibly be. Anakin appreciates that but Anakin is also a very headstrong teenager wanting to move faster in things then Obi-Wan feels he’s ready to do. Anakin does turn out to be a difficult apprentice & most likely would have been for anyone who attempted to train him. It just happened that all of this fell to Obi-Wan to do & since Obi-Wan was a Jedi Knight he accepted the responsibility & did the best he could to train Anakin.

Here is Lesson 4---it's going to be a short one---because it's about the Sith. Everytime I have to think or write about them I get chills up my spine.

KNIGHT LESSON 4—SITH BELIEfS

After reading this I wasn’t sure exactly how to react to it. I know hearing the word Sith sends chills up my spine. True partly because of the Star Wars movies but also because I’ve read the Sith code & the Sith Scrolls---none of those are a positive thing to read.
The one major flaw I see in the Sith from reading what is said above is they are all about doing things that will serve themselves or the me factor. No matter what it takes, who they hurt, even without realizing, or what course of action they take it’s all for themselves the me factor. How will it serve me. How will it advance me. How will it give me the power.
Jesus was on earth to serve others & to teach us to serve others. Others always come 1st.
Jedi serve others without thought to themselves. All of the Gospels when Jesus talks to you hear him always saying to serve others. Make yourselves as little children. Trust in God. Let go of yourself, let go & let God. Jesus practiced humility. Jedi are to be humble.
At the Weddiing Feast at Cana Jesus made wine out of water for others to have a successful wedding. When he multiplied the loaves & fishes it was to help others so others would not go hungry. He suffered & died for us to save us because he loved us. Jesus always put others 1st .

Knights Lesson 5
No Faith in This Force

This is one very, very, very, very negative person on the Jedi. In all aspects this person who wrote this simply strongly dislikes anything about the Jedi. Jedi is not a religion even if there are people out in the real world who think it is.

The force is energy which the Jedi can feel & learn how to let it flow through them to seem to give them special powers that they use for the force of good in serving others---he did mention that at the top but in a derogatory manner.
The Jedi can’t help that they feel that energy—they were born with it as he stated above---so what there are many people that are born with talents that others don’t have. Some are technically inclined where others wouldn’t know one end of a hammer from the other. Some are musically inclined but couldn’t draw stick figure in art. Jedi had the talent of being able to feel the force & use it for the good of others.

As far as the Jedi Council is concerned they are just that the Jedi Council who guide the Jedi not everyone else in the republic. Jedi were asked to do things to help the peace of their galaxy by the senate or the Chancellor. I know I mentioned this in a previous lesson. Jedi would have been very happy to stay put & be left alone but others knew that the Jedi could help & the Jedi did the best they could when asked to be Guardians of the Peace. The Jedi had rules to follow & they followed them the best they could. Jedi did not mind following the rules of the Order—they were Jedi it was their choice to do so. If a Jedi wanted to leave the Order to live a different life she/he was free to do so. Sometimes it happened freely & sometimes it happened because they were asked to leave. Training was not easy. Being a Jedi was not an easy life to live. It took great courage, determination & commitment to become a Jedi.
That they didn’t see that Palpatine was the Sith Lord before it was too late only shows that Jedi or Sith can hide who they are & both sides are very well aware of that. I will agree to a point that sometimes the Council didn’t listen as well as they could have but they tested the “waters” to see what would happen & hoped they could stop whatever would happen. Palpatine had several years to promote bad “press” for the Jedi & he did that consistently in secret. If a lie is spread around often enough people will begin to think it’s the truth.

When Jedi die they all do not disappear. It seems the body disappearing was learned by Qui-Gon who passed it on to Yoda & Obi-Wan & it’s simply mentioned without a lot of talk. It’s a much a do about nothing. When Jedi die they become one with the Force.

Lucas actually put together parts of the Jedi from many religions around the words but he did not intend that it would be considered a religion. With Star Wars fans one cannot read their minds. If they decide it works for them, what is one to do---it’s free choice & free will.

Jedi are for others: compassionate, loyal, humble, honest, responsible, disciplined, honorable, respectful, positive, calm, patient, diplomatic, problem solvers, teachers, protectors, service to others, listeners, defenders, leaders, take action when the need arises, go on missions, observers, guides, prepared.

Sith are for themselves & power: passionate, disloyal, proud, liars unless they have to be honest, dishonorable, disrespectful, negative, service to themselves, power hungry & some other ones. The Sith do have some Jedi qualities but they are used in a negative sense to serve them selves & gain power.

I wonder how this world would be if we had more Jedi in it?
Or more Sith?

My credits would be on the Jedi.

Even if I weren't a tiny bit biased I'd still choose the Jedi.

They lead to the light.

Assignment 6, Intermediate Service

I've had to think about this for awhile since I'm retired.

I can say that I do donate what I can to help others at Church, St Vincent De Paul, Make a Wish, etc.
I assist at events when I can when I can get there.
I do have in my home my mother & my aunt who live with me. They are handicapped in their own way. My mother is 85 & has dementia.
I used to be able to do more but I'm also a bit handicapped myself & I don't get out as much as I'd like to.
I think my helping others is on a day by day basis depending on what comes up.

Knight Lesson 8
Pick any character from Star Wars and write a detailed report about them, paying special attention to their moral choices and what might have happened if they had acted differently. Post it in your introduction topic.

Master Qui-Gon Jinn---hhhhmmm what can I say about him, except he is my favorite Jedi in Star Wars. I chose part of his name for my own.

Qui-Gon was an independent Jedi who depended on the Jedi Council. Yoda was concerned for Qui-Gon because Qui-Gon depended on the Living Force for guidance most of the time. Qui-Gon told Yoda that he (Qui-Gon) was simply made that way.
You could say that Qui-Gon always listened to the Will of God to see which way he should go in what he was doing on a mission & in his life.

Qui-Gon Jinn was a very tall well built Jedi Knight who could be gentle, soft spoken & fight with the best of them. He was an excellent negotiator. He could use the force very easily with the powers of mind tricks & other powers as necessary but he didn’t flaunt them. He was a very rugged individual who cared deeply for those he was concerned for.

From the Jedi Apprentice Books he was considered a very respected Knight who chose not to be on the Council because he preferred "roaming around" doing missions at the Jedi Council’s request—Qui-Gon preferred being in service to others. He was a Guardian of the Peace. Believed & lived by the Living Force & followed the Jedi rules most of the time. He would bend them when necessary depending on the situation but he didn't break them. He did frustrate the Jedi Council because of his ideas at times. When he felt he was in the right of something & the Jedi Council was wrong he would follow his own mind & instincts again depending on the situation. He was mostly in the field doing missions wherever the Jedi Council would send him. He did obey the Jedi Council dictates but when a mission started he knew more of what was going on then they did & he would adapt to the situation. He would do the right thing & contact the Jedi Council for their advise & advise them on what was going on, most of the time they let him be guided by his decisions since he was right there in the situation---but sometimes it took him a bit to adjust to things.

In the Jedi Apprentice books---the Jedi Council requested that Qui-Gon would come at least 1 time a year to look at the new students who were ready to be Padawans--he obeyed the Council & usually refused to take on a Padawan. He had had 1 Padawan & that one went to the dark side & left the Jedi & Qui-Gon didn't want to take on that responsibility again. It did cause him much pain. Then along came Obi-Wan Kenobi. A very young Jedi hopeful, almost 13, who wanted so badly to be a Padawan. When Obi-Wan heard that Qui-Gon was coming to look at young ones again Obi-Wan hoped he’d be picked by Qui-Gon. Of course every young Jedi hopeful had the same idea. Obi-Wan had a rival who tricked Obi-Wan into anger, a trap that Obi-Wan walked into & because of the anger was told he had to leave the Jedi Temple & move into the Agricorps. Obi-Wan was devastated by this but Yoda permitted Obi-Wan to show what he could do in front of Qui-Gon before Obi-Wan left the temple. Qui-Gon watched Obi-Wan but decided that Obi-Wan was a bit too aggressive in his fighting skills & told that to Obi-Wan. The strange thing was that both of them ended up going to the same planet on separate missions. Qui-Gon as a Guardian of the Peace & Obi-Wan for the Agricorps---they had several things that happened during those missions- Obi-Wan proved time & time again that he would make a good Jedi from Qui-Gon’s view & in the end Qui-Gon took Obi-Wan as his Padawan. In fact at the beginning when they knew they were going to the same planet, Qui-Gon felt that the planet was too harsh for Obi-Wan---Yoda told Qui-Gon that the planet was to harsh for planting crops but very good for training a young Jedi. When Qui-Gon started feeling a bond between himself & Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon was not pleased at all about that---even though he knew Yoda would be pleased by that. once he accepted Obi-Wan as his Padawan---they did have their ups & downs. He then trained Obi-Wan for at least the next 10-12 yrs till they met Darth Maul.

On thing that Qui-Gon mentioned & admitted to was –being a Jedi was a hard life, not an easy path to follow.

What might have happened if Qui-Gon had acted differently?
He would have disobeyed the Jedi Council.
He would not have met Obi-Wan Kenobi & the Obi-Wan would have had to live out his life in the Agricorps. The Jedi would have lost a good Jedi Knight.
Qui-Gon might not have been on some of the missions he was sent on. There is the possibility that Qui-Gon might have lived to a very old age & no one would have known about him.
Qui-Gon might have also become a renegade on his own & pull away from being a Jedi.

Knight Lesson 9.

Pick any character from Star Wars and write a detailed report comparing them to someone from the Bible. Post it in your introduction topic.

Jesus & Master Qui-Gon Jinn.

Jesus is our saviour, Son of God. He was known to be tall, with a long hair & beard. He dressed simply, served others & always put others 1st. He did the Will of God 1st & always.
He was gentle & kind to all & yet could tell those who needed to know that they were doing wrong. He taught the ways of peace & love for fellow man. He was a positive personality.
He suffered & died for love of us. Jesus performed miracles to heal the physical, mental, spiritual, & mental problems of his time. He walked everywhere in the land that he lived in. He lived in the present moment yet knowing what would come. He taught others so that they could in turn teach others.

Qui-Gon was a Jedi Master trained to be able to do service for others. He was tall with long hair & beard. He lived with the living force or as I like to think of doing the Will of God. He was kind, gentle & a good negotiator. He did missions to serve others. Qui-Gon had force powers he used for the good of others when he needed to use them. He obeyed the Jedi Council most of the time. He did have his weaknesses because he was not immortal like Jesus.
Qui-Gon took the time to teach Obi-Wan, once they were a team & Qui-Gon looked out for Obi-Wan & trained him as best he could. Qui-Gon traveled where ever he was asked to go to do whatever the will of the Council asked him to go. He would make changes when the mission needed the changes to be done.

Knight Missions
The following characteristics of a Christian Jedi are among the most important characteristics that distinguish them from others. For your Knight Missions, write at least a paragraph about a specific incident when you demonstrated each characteristic.

Humility - To regard yourself as no better than others, to not be prideful, arrogant, or demanding of your own way.
When I talk about myself I don’t feel very humble but when at events or even on line when others regard me as a very good Jedi, I’ve even been called “brilliant” I usually humbly excuse myself from being considered a good Jedi or that other term. I am a Jedi who is constantly learning & feel I still have a long way to go. Even when I talk with other younger Jedi, sometimes I feel their wisdom is deeper then my own. I simply trust in God that I’m doing His will.

Service - Doing whatever you can to help others, regardless of how menial the task may be.
I do whatever I can on a daily basis to be of service to anyone I come in contact with. I used to be able to do more but I’m more limited now. The size of the task doesn’t bother me. I usually open doors for others. Buy things for others when they don’t expect it.

Self-Discipline - To control one’s desires, actions, habits, etc. A Jedi Knight must have the self-discipline to train everyday and learn continuously in order to be ready to serve anyone at anytime.
With Self-Discipline I do have my ups & my downs. I do the best I can with my given situation. When I do feel unwell, I l let my body rest so that it can function better. When I’m feeling able, I do what I can to do what exercises I can to strengthen & tone myself.

Patience - The ability to wait without complaint and endurance and perseverance in the performance of a task.
That for me is an on going practice within my home, on line or traveling. I do take breaks in between because I need to rest myself when I’m doing something & work at the task till I get it done.

Forgiveness - Jedi do not hold grudges or desire that others be punished for wrong-doing, but instead forgive.
This is sometimes very difficult but since I’ve been Jedi it’s become much easier to let it go, even with certain people. I feel that God will take care of it rather then myself so forgive & forget.

Leadership - A Jedi never knows when he will be called on to step up and take on the responsibility of leadership in some situation. This is where self-discipline and continuous learning will come in handy.
This is an area I’m in & out of depending on the situation. When this task comes up, I do my best to way all options given me & then learn what I need to do, to do the best job I can do to lead.

Evangelism - As Christians we are to share our love of Jesus with others. Join another Jedi site and share your faith with others whether it is in a forum or one-on-one with another member via PM. Remember to be humble, respectful, and compassionate. If they are interested in learning more encourage them to check out COJK.
I can at present be of influence to my family & friends in this matter. If any sites would be recommended I’d be glad to hear about them. I do belong to RJK & at times this does come up & I do express myself there. I’ve also mentioned COJK at a few other sites & let them know they can ask me about COJK if they are interested.

We all have much to work on some of these qualities, but you showed many times to have them. Good job!

Thank you Master.
Did you need more details with this set or not?
As far improving on those qualities---that's an ongoing process each day of our lives.
