In the world today, many people are born each day. The number of people that die every day is just as great. Conception-- it is a time of happiness, a new sense of hope is reached, a new beating heart, a longing. Many beings continue this growth through the process of Birth. With birth, it is a new way of living. There are more choices, much learning, the ability of gaining friends as we all go through this growth. As children, we wish we were older. As adults, we realized that childhood was somewhat better than adulthood with less worries and less responsibilities. Through growing up, we start out through Preschool or going to babysitters who teach us to talk, etc. Then we proceed to elementary school which prepares us for high school. In high school, we prepare ourselves for college. In college, we gain real life experience in the area of our major. College then prepares us for the rest of our lives. Most people work until retirement, others work until they can no longer. In a practical look at this, it is like saying, we are born to die, we work our lives away to die all for what reason? Do we really have a purpose on this Earth or are we just a pawn in a game? The Bible gives a glimpse into this and many philosophers claim that we are here to help others, make the world a better place, or constantly self-examine ourselves. But even if we do all of this, what is the point? No one knows what comes after death. Is it just another stage in this transformation or is it something more? If we look at this from a scientific perspective, there have been many different species of animals. However, 95% of all the species that were every on the Earth died 65 million years ago de to the Earth's climate changing drastically. Homo sapiens, or humans, have only been on this earth a fraction of that time period since the beginning of time. It is said through the theory of evolution, based off of the findings of Charles Darwin, that a species that is 'more fit' or perfect survives and all of the others die out. However, this is false, it is only those who are better adapted that survive and this is key. Are we on this Earth to reign supreme over all of the other creatures? Are we here to just simply survive? Even if we were created by God or if we evolved from mere animals, this question of why we are here is one that cannot be answered completely. So I leave this topic open to discussion, questions, comments, concerns. |

Very interesting topic! I think every life on Earth is about growth: from a seed in the womb of the Earth, to a mighty tree rising its branches toward the sky- from an egg to an animal, in tune with our planet and its elements- from an embryo to a human being... Now whether the life form is a plant, an animal or a human being, it/he/she will have different opportunities to grow- not only physically- I would say that the physical part of the growth is more about allowing all the other parts of the life form to make an experience, physically, on this planet. The trees are living an everlasting dialogue between the Earth and the Sky, they are like a channel of energy- of course we have no way to know whether they have some awareness of it or not- Practicing Qigong with trees though, I was able to notice that different trees give off different feelings- maybe emotions- energies- in their own special way, they experience life. Animals mostly live and behave out of instincts, fighting or fleeing to survive, hunting to feed themselves and their babies, mating-they are perfectly in tune with nature and the Force- they are aware of dangers human beings cannot perceive- they know where to go if they have to migrate in different seasons- and at times they can even become heroes, finding lost people in mountain areas, or under earthquake wreckages, or simply alerting their human family from a danger- theirs is another way of experiencing life and growth. Now if we consider human beings, we see intelligence, capacity to talk, and to think...I believe human beings have great opportunities to grow and experience life in a unique way- but often they live imprisoned in their thoughts, instead of using them to direct the energy currents, or to help others. For me the sense of living here and now is precisely this: using all we have been given, our body, mind, heart, spirit, to grow and help others grow too. I see life as a gift, an occasion to experience something unique. Master Silmerion |

The one problem I see with instincts, is that some animals do not have them, they only become instincts when they learn something and constantly do it to survive. To say that we are on this earth to help others, I find that very general and quite vague. Although, all we can do is speculate. |

Indeed, I don't think we can get a full answer at this time, we can learn, experience, share, think, feel- then just do what we believe is the best for ourselves and others- and surely we evolve much in a lifetime. I would say that life is a very interesting and challenging adventure. Master Silmerion |
