Right, so it's apparent that stuff has happened. I left Coffeetalk when BR and Lu drove me to the brink of suicide with their unending obnoxiousness. I deleted virtually all of my bookmarks to forums to try and put some space between myself and That Which Drives Me Nuts. It didn't work. Everywhere I went, I heard about Coffeetalk. Emails, IRC, instant messaging, etc. When I heard CT mentioned by people who have never even been involved here, I realized that Bad Things must be afoot. Trolls. But it was not a one-sided problem. One also has to take into account what brought in the "trolls." There were several topics focusing on one person in particular, who then came here for--well, does it matter? If I discovered I was the topic of several threads, I'd want to check it out, too. I'm not saying the threads were wrong. I've knocked many people here myself, and would do so again. I can't stand Jolyth and MorningGlory. If they were to show up here, fine. I wouldn't call for their bannings. But it seemed things got out of hand. On both sides. You just can't overmoderate "trolling" behavior--it only makes it worse. And bannings, thread lockings, segregation--isn't that what several members here used as a way of knocking PPG? I realize that many inflammatory and graphic things were shown or brought up. Would things have gotten this far if so much attention was given to the "intruders"? I'm not here to place blame--I have no right to do so. When cliffette first setup this forum, however, I was given the login information for the ccino account. I chose not to act as admin because, frankly, I saw little need. It's an off-topic forum--anything should go. The admins that volunteered I'm sure did the best job they could, but increased moderation was just not the way to go. When I noticed so many calls, from forum regulars, not "intruders", I decided to do with I felt was right. I got rid of all of the admins, period, and the segregated usergroups. I initially decided not to post anything publicly in the hopes that everyone would calm down and no one would have to be embarrassed or hurt. Guess that was another bad decision, as based on some recent posts. But in the end, I did what I felt was right. Perhaps I screwed up--it's what I do best, afterall. I'm sure there will be several voodoo dolls made in my likeness. For the moment, Bex and Regullus are moderators. If/when things calm down, I will put someone else up as admin and walk away. That person can change the ccino password, as long as cliffette is notified of the change. So there it is. Blast me if you want, I don't care. I still feel I made the right decision, and I would make it again. For now, I am off to bed. Sincerely, icelus |

The reason I'm 'hostile' is because I think that it's more than a little underhanded for someone who "left forevar" to come back into the middle of a situation and just decide X. A PM would have been nice, a warning, anything but this supposed spanking. |

I don't know, Silk. There are a couple reasons why he would have to. If you're saying that Cyber wouldn't have complied with anything Icelus said, he still could have given it a shot. But since he had the power to boot Cyber, I guess that would mean she has that same power and so Ice wanted to boot her quickly before she could boot him if he suggested she do something different. But I don't think Cyber would do that.I'm aware of that. I just think that the whole situation could have been handled differently. |

You know, Icelus stopped posting about the same time as me. To me, his absece was rather conspicuous. Judging by what he had to say, I reckon that te had the same problems with the moderation that I did. Icelus, like me, obviously hoped we would figure it out on our own and said nothing (although I did casually bitch about it and even left FOREVAR in a playful call to sanity).. You obviously still don't get what it was you did wrong. Ask the right people and you'll find out that I saw the writing on the wall a while ago. Judging by comments from Silk and Lizdiggory I now realise that I'm not the only one who smelled something rotten in Denmark. Sorry, Cyber, but you fucked up. If you were working from a point of consensus, then the consensus fucked up. Don't blame Icelus for doing what he had to do and don't you dare accuse him of cronyism. I like Ghreyfain (but don't know him very well) and I like Corvis (but don't really know him at all) and I like you just as much, but I would have done the same thing as Icelus, except (sorry, Icelus) I would have done it a hell of a lot sooner. And I like you, too, Cyber.......so I most certainly do not have a conflict of interest, here. |

Lu, your responses to the "trolling" was one of the main reasons it increased. You showed them nothing but disrespect and made no effort to understand why and how they were acting the way they acted or what they were trying to say. Interpreting everything as black and white is what caused this debacle. For example, you have been openly bad mouthing Joe, even though he has most certainly seen every disparaging post you made about him. You (and others) have been doing the same thing to Discharger, Ghreyfain, Sim, and Corvis. Generally speaking, it is considered bad form to launch personal attacks at people as if they aren't "in the room" when they, uh, are. |

Drew, maybe Lu (and myself, and others) responded to the trolling the way we did was because those people were a significant reason why this place was founded, we really liked it here, and we knew (or at least were very certain) that if they came here this would turn into another PPG. We answered what we were so certain was hostility with more hostility. 'Our side' screwed up, but those certain people knew that in coming here they would be stirring up trouble. I have nothing against you, Drew. That's just how I think this all happened. |

Indeed, but the first move of using invitations to bring some people and keep others away did nothing to worsen the problem. Though after that is where both 'sides' screwed up, and now you're really at eachother's throats. |

I don't know everything. Though I really think things have been taken too far, and I'm not pinning the blame on everyone but myself here. I just think people should stop clawing away at eachother and try to move forward here. That may or may not be possible. Depends how forthcoming people are. Cyber isn't alone, Joe. |

Yup. Sadly, Jon, discussions about politics and kitty cats are considered spam (or at least undesirable) in certain places. I'd also add that I consider it bad manners to launch personal attacks, period, whether the other person is "in the room" or not. (My inclination is that talking shit behind someone's back is a mite worse.) And in the immortal words of my mother, I don't care WHO started it. I find the entire debacle regrettable. I sincerely hope that people will stick around and, like, have conversations and stuff. I like conversations. |
