He's a good little cleric, and having him along adds a lot of party interaction. He also turned out to be pleasantly deferential in manner, without grovelling (like a certain ranger).

You have already missed a fair amount of his content as you're done the first mine level, which is where he provides the most active guiding. Not that he doesn't have anything more to say, but if you'll play again, maybe you want to save him for later. Up to you.

In hindsight, I should have bought him a crossbow from the Westwood blacksmith, as he only comes with his mace and I never found a suitable ranged weapon for him along the way.

Yeah, I will definitely play again. Good aligned. I was thinking rogue/mage, with the high Int you can afford some cross-class skills, as its just 2+ Int for wizards per level. But then with all those knock spells, invisibility you maybe don't need to spend so many in rogue skills. But do you get the XP for knocking a lock?

Thing is that ranger makes me vomit, I certainly wouldn't want to try his romance unless I knew beforehand it was really good. But the Pia romance was good and it does seem tied up with the plot so maybe I'll go with her again.

You do get XP for knocked locks. Scrolls are also way cheaper than powerful lockpicks.

Tip: there are a couple of points where the game appears to autosave, but these didn't always seem to work properly. If the game autosaves, make a real save.

Pfft. I got the impression you didn't mind.

Vico....

That's another one of the options I want to try out, long-term. I suspect it could be very interesting.

I don't mind at all, I'm finding it very amusing. The truth however is more mundane. I just had a couple of bad nights, where I couldn't get to sleep.

As for Vico you get quite a few options like making him beg, which was fun.

I figured that was probably the case (not sleeping well), but the saucy interpretation is ever so much more fun.

More fun than flaming VPoH.

I decided to redo the inn again, sleeping with Vico. I'm still going to kill him, but thought it'd be more fun this way. Of course Pia is a tad upset. But I'm evil, evil I tell you!

Not much to report other than I've beaten the big red meanie. And I'm not afraid to say that fight gave me much trouble (=reloadz  ). The Dhorn soldiers were useless at softening him up. Never getting him past Injured. Bah.

Pia can wait for the next game.

I don't know exactly what happened in my game, but the Dhorn killed "Big Red." More properly, he killed all but one of them almost immediately, and then the single remaining soldier proceeded to kick ass. It was bizarre.

Actually, now that I think about it, that one soldier had buggered off to attack me, having spotted me on the switch platform, but since I hid again, he went back to his original position. That probably messed up the fight script somehow. It looked really one-sided.

I thought about reloading, but decided to just go with the flow, killed the last Dhorn and claimed the spoils. It seemed like the kind of thing my character would do anyway, with luck going her way.

Did you do that fight alone, or did you rejoin your party first? It looks to me like you can go get them and come back, which might be easier. Or possibly not.

Good luck with Vico (and poor Pia, you evil wretch!). I'll get there myself. Started a new game last night, with an LN princess who has already slipped to CN, and continues slipping. She gave Vico a peck on the cheek when he asked for a smooch in the Guild. He was exceedingly taken aback. That was fun.

Yes, I did go back and get my party for though Vico was the only one of use as he had my belt of fear protection. I bought one of Greater Guiding Light.
I got Gemli, but he and Anden and Pia were unable to save against the Big Red's Fear effect. I don't why because I told them to stand back and attack with ranged weapons, but they insisted on closing in far enough to be in the aura radius.

Basically, big red, starts with a 100+ dmg breath attack, then a knockdown move which if it succeeds, means you are going to get hit rather badly (most likely criticals) in the 20-50 range and basically a rogue has nowhere near enough hit points to survive. Vico usually does, but the dragon will take him down pretty quickly anyway. Big red concentrates on one opponent until he's dead.

I basically got lucky with one reload. That my ranged guys actually didn't get too close. and I could stand back and let Vico (my sweetheart! lol!) melee big red and then resurrected him when he died to finish big red off.

Let me know how it goes with your new princess, is this going to be the rogue/sorceror?

I'm curious at to whether you find it easier/hardier/the same difficulty as before.

What stats do you choose, and when are you likely to multi-class?

I highly recommended the AL set of mods (Siege of Shadowdale, Crimson Tides of Tethyr, Tyrants of the Moonsea), though the third one was very disappointing. Alazander is a fantastic storyteller. Tyrants of the Moonsea is the best module I have played so far.

All of them are meant to be played with the same character, but the plots are not really related to one another.

I don't know why, but I just love playing in the Forgotten Realms setting.

Can you guys recommend any good'uns set there? Preferably series and long modules, but any recommendation is welcome.

Yeah, this is the one I intend to multi as a sorcerer. Stats are 12/14/12/14/8/16, basically the same as my “standard” build for any rogue or bard I’ve started in any campaign, but sacrificing wisdom for charisma. I mostly took feats to help boost her thieving skills, as opposed to the more combat-oriented ones from my R/F/SD (practically untouchable by the end).

Thus far, I’ve only done 5 training missions, the admin building, and a few minor encounters. It’s going faster because I know exactly what to do and can rough out a kind of ideal order. Opted to invest in the catsuit again as the stealth boost really does seem invaluable (I just barely had the money).

Hard to say what the difficulty will be like. Might be doing a lot of backtracking to return to safe places to rest. I know what encounters to expect, which always helps a lot, and I’ll be maximizing the XP a bit more by making sure I only recover traps from doors and containers. It’ll be easier to tell once I start taking sorcerer levels, which I think I’ll do at level 5. I expect I’ll continue taking a rogue level every now and again, at least to keep up my bluff and persuasion skills.

I might opt to develop Pia more as a fighter, instead of primarily as a bard like I did when my PC was a brawling type.

(Joe: Sorry, but I really can't help you there. Shadowlords/Dreamcatcher/Demon is FR though, and would keep you busy for a few weeks maybe, depending how much you play, and how fast.)

I've heard good things about that one, so I will have to give it a go. Is that the one with little xp gained from combat? And how is the henchmen interaction?

Shadowlords is fairly standard. You gain no XP from kills in the Dreamcatcher series and Demon.

Your henchman will interact with you quite a lot, though only 1 of the main 3 can accompany you at a time, so you don't really get a party dynamic going. There are some neat bits where you can pick up additional companions for a time.

Yes, any of the 3 henchmen can be romanced, and there are options for both genders.

Sorry Joe, the only two other mods I've tried are Kingmaker which is a premium NWN mod and The Nether Scrolls (a mod that takes you from SoU to HotU). Both were very hack and slash, but I don't mind mindless genocide powergaming once in a while.

Bex, I wonder about Pia taking fighter levels (I've given her all bard so far for the song and that's about it), whether it will actually help her that much in combat. I guess she'd have better hit points if nothing else.

No, but it and Alazander's mods are on my list of things to try.

DoD looks excellent, but you have to start out at level eight, and at the beginning are traveling with a friend of yours who's been with you for every adventure. I like to take my character's from the beginning, but that gawldurned friend makes it impossible to say...start your character in another mod, get him or her to level eight, and then assume he or she went on to start DoD for his or her next adventure.

Stupid roleplaying instinct ruins all my fun. Well, roleplaying-as-myself instinct.

Seems ok to me, starting at a certain level, don't see why it should be that different to starting at level 1.

No progress today, doing other things like installing BG2 on Vista.
