Joe, I'll echo Bex's sentiments. Well them nasty Drow have been dealt with. They were a cheesy lot especially with their potions of heal. I couldn't hit em and Vico and I had a hard time finishing the Priestess off. (Pia and Anden having fallen by the wayside) and I'm struggling to find decent armour for Anden. His AC is pretty crap. |

Tough fight, that. At least you get a warning, as someone is bound to make the spot check. I'll admit I abused hide-in-plain-sight mercilessly at that point though, leaving my party set up in their own ambush. Divide and conquer. The poison effect on the Priestess's armour is just nasty, even affecting ranged attackers. Last night, Princess J'aime became Hyath's high priestess, taking her to level 3 as a sorceror (rogue 4). So far, all she's really been casting is Identify. Trap and lock checks have not been a problem thus far. |

I'm guessing you used HiPS against that Orc who attacks you with the Greataxe, who handed my ass to me on a plate no less than 6 times in a row, before I remembered I'm an assassin with Ghostly Visage that gives some useful damage reduction. I've got so used to Damage Reduction armour, that I forgot about that ability. The other giant bone thing on the other hand caused me no problems whatsoever. I really liked the drow interrogation bit and am now escaping from the basement. Congrats on the high priestess thing, I don't know whether it does "make you stronger" like it says, nothing ever really happened apart from the XP. Princess J'aime, like it. :D Mine is called Morganna. Hopefully you'll soon be rid of those two annoying love birds. (Evil laugh). |

I had a hell of a time with the "other giant bone thing" (my last princess was Susie Asado, incidentally, which is from a poem). I could get away initially and lay traps, but then it refused to follow and set them off, until I finally got lucky and got caught in the fear aura (I only had belts to protect from that and paralysis, and being held was proving more of an immediate death sentence). Then and only then would the stupid thing chase me, and fortunately, Susie took off like a scared rabbit right over the trapped path, one hit away from certain doom. (I'm glad fire traps don't hit multiple targets.) |

Funnily enough, I had Anden stand on the platform where boney couldn't get him, and his fire arrows were quite devastating. Pia, Vico and Morganna were protected from the fear via belts and gave him a good kicking with fire / acid weapons. I had an AC of 41 with my plate and shield and he hardly touched me. Everyone actually survived that fight. The drow ambush on the other hand had no problem hitting this AC
I've only used traps once in the game to take out Rick and his gang. |

*hangs head in shame* I couldn't get past the bone golem, as I didn't have enough skill to unlock the door or disarm the trap (which stunned me every time), so I cheated in an Amulet of the Master. |

*ahem* Maybe I missed something that would have helped me escape, but I couldn't find it, and none of the weapons I had damaged the golem. *shrugs* I used the amulet to steal loads of stuff, and with another drow ambush, I have 500k left and I've upgraded 3 armours to +5 and regen, and 3 weapons to +5, which most have cost me at least 800k. I have Pia back and my original gear obviously, with Rizzen, who single-handedly despatched the black dragon on the way to getting it. |

No, I don't recall finding anything that would have damaged the golem, or another way out. That's just one of those spots where you're effectively screwed without the skills. I found it quite galling that I had to leave one locked cabinet when making my escape because I couldn't pick it or bash it open. You've reached the point where money is no longer an object. I had ludicrous amounts of cash by the end. Enough to buy back 5 kingdoms, I'm sure. |

I know what you are talking about but there is a greataxe in the orc's cell, which is what I used to bash down more than one cabinet I couldn't open. It only damages on the better criticals, and took me ages even with Power Attack. Did you find the Ceremonial Armour of Lolth? That was worth close to 250k on its own. Great if you are a cleric, +5/10 dmg reduction but relatively poor AC. But since I know now just to sneak upstairs and get those lovely gloves in the chest, so I don't miss out on the XP for picking the locks. It was half-way through clearing that house I gained a level, and chose Rogue instead of my intention to take Fighter, so I could up the open locks skill a fair whack and get the xp instead of bashing. |

I may not have tried bashing with the great axe. Think I temporarily ditched it to pick up on the way out because it was making me heavily encumbered. Silly. Oh well. The Ceremonial Armour may have been in the cabinet I left, as I don't remember it. J'aime has returned from the Temple, having concluded all activities there. Myra and Christano got their chalice; it's sitting on the altar with their corpses. Wouldn't have wanted to miss out on the other loot in the tombs, after all. Waiting for the Arena to open to go pickpocket a key. |

Heh, nice touch. Real classy.
:D I'm in Moonville now, so I am guessing there's not too much more. I really thought about wasting Vico and Rizzen when I had the chance but decided to keep them on board as I didn't want to get killed in the Underdark. The second drow ambush near the exit was a piece of cake with those two. I then got the chance to get rid of Rizzen, when a certain quest came up and he is now lying buried in some farmlands. |

Yeah, it's quite the maze, even if you get Maren to tell you what to do. The post-portal area is mostly more straightforward though. J'aime has rescued Pia, who apparently doesn't like her in that way. Wasn't enthusiatic enough when they first "met," I reckon. Anyway, got a little shopping to do before moving on with the plot. I've discovered that some doors can be picked but not knocked. DC is irrelevant, and obviously if they can be picked, they don't have keys. Interesting. |

Oh Maren, I wiped her out, and stole her nice boots (with damage reduction!) Ok, that's good to know because it means that you can't just rely on knock to get through all the doors. Been thinking about my next go as a rogue/wizard. Its not like you have to spend points on lore or even spellcraft for that matter, so I'm guessing you are putting a point into concentration to keep that maxed and carrying over the skill points for the odd rogue level. At 5 / level with 16 Int for the wizard levels you can't really afford to spend them on cross-class skills. I was also going to ask do you get more XP for recovering traps than disarming them? And you seem to have done quite a bit of research on the mod, was that from reading all the comments on the NWN Vault? I am also of the opinion Part 2 is in need of tweaking. The cult bit for instance doesn't really make sense to me, nor how you get the old General's key. |

Joe: If you want to know about persistent worlds, there's a guy at PBG, Lemernis, who is/was heavily involved in a project called... it might have been ALPHA. It was definitely pronounced "alpha," but there might be some tweaking of the spelling. Anyway, you could look him up and PM him for info. He's got a PPG account as well. Krazy: Yeah, once I was done a run-through of each part, I speed-read through the Vault comments (which still takes a good long time). Interesting to see some of the development background, and there are some good tips, but signal to noise is overall pretty low. I've only found a few unknockable locks, in Part 1 at the Arena (main door) and the Academy (ground floor, both doors sealing off the back rooms). I'm not sure if it's meant to keep you from poking around in those areas prematurely or what. I am carrying over most of my sorc's skill points, though I've boosted spellcraft a bit since there are a few places where it's useful in dialogues and examining plot items. No point picking up skills cross-class when it makes more sense to just take a rogue level now and again. Recovering and disarming traps nets the same XP, even though recovery is harder. I'm not sure if it's possible to code two different values, but it seems unlikely. (Not recovering so many traps has the bonus of keeping your inventory a lot cleaner.) The cult is... completely bizarre, and how they can be connected to the Dhorn prison but also condemned by the Dhorn for their actions is... a bit tough to think around. Getting the General's key? Susie got herself tossed out, no harm, no foul (and no upsetting Pia). There's only one possible dialogue path to avoid both fighting and special favours in that quest though. I think I explored most possible outcomes. He's actually a pretty nice man, for a Dhorn. I've now gotten as far as Vico loves J'aime. Anden and Pia seem... disapproving ("On the floor...."). Too funny. But Pia wasn't interested in being more than friends, and J'aime managed to alienate Anden by trying to flirt with him in Westwood, so where else is a girl to go for some loving? Certainly not the dwarf. Pia's actually quite decent with some fighter levels, using a long sword and heavier armour. I need to level her as a bard a bit more, I think, for the song and the lore, but she's holding her own with Vico on the front lines. Currently she's got the Armour of Lolth and Anden's wearing the Assassin's Waistcoat. Seems to be working out alright. |

Good stuff, thanks. I might have to give Pia some fighter levels then. Even 4 would be a big help, if I could choose the feats. She's certainly kicking ass now with +5 Red Dragon leather and Dragon Shield, and the +5 Burning Rapier I upgraded for her and I've only given her Bard levels, although once she gets to level 11 Bard, I should have given her fighter levels. No need for any more really. Shame you can't make weapons keen, that would have been a nice option but probably too munchkinny as well. You seem to be breezing through second time around, although I guess knowing what's going to happen makes planning a lot easier. Joe, from what I understand persistent worlds are just like MMORPGs, where you interact with other players in a world hosted by a NWN server. |

Ah well, I've just slain Maren's father, a fight in true 'tactics' style. And even to get there I had to wade through hordes of "impossible" doom knights, warrior mummies and the like, which give measly XP. All for some plate mail +5 that gives +5/20 dmg reduction. And some rather tasty +5 keen weapons that drain levels. |

Yeah, I've burned through fairly quickly, not wasting a lot of time exploring empty areas or wandering back and forth trying to figure out how a quest is meant to work, or exploring dialogues (my cursed obsessive nature demands I try everything, even if I do invariably stick with my first impulses). The fighting has also gone fairly quickly. I think probably because I'm using the party more efficiently,as J'aime is more physically fragile and needs a lot of protecting. Susie would do a lot of the fighting solo, which was effective, but time-consuming. Very useful for as often as you're on your own though. I fear for J'aime in a few areas, though sneaking past everything and coming back with the party later is still always an option. Still, this time I did the Bear Pit fight, which I skipped out on in the first game. It's a very good time to use the elder elemental summoning scroll from the Academy, if you can. Got hammered by an ice storm the first try, but on the second I only had to raise Pia afterwards. Then, I kind of accidentally triggered the Dhorn Sharpshooter ambush to go hostile (left through the window, but then wandered over by the door) and slaughtered the lot of them easily. This causes the Dhorn Guard faction to go hostile too, and that in turn can cause the Dhorn Patrol faction to go, though they will turn hostile as part of your last mission anyway. It added up to a lot of blood in the streets, but was really more inconvenient than dangerous. The orcs in the inn only required one reload, as J'aime got stuck in the bottle neck at the door and the chieftan landed a couple of criticals before I could steer her out of the line of fire. The orcs in the woods were tougher. It annoys me to no end that their archers can evidently see farther than I can. But it was more of an AI issue than anything, with the party letting that orc chieftan and his shamans lay waste while they picked off the raiders (AND continually switching targets before killing them off). This is one advantage I've noticed Dungeon Siege has over NWN, where you can control the AI to the extent of directing a group to attack strongest/weakest/closest, in addition to switching the type of attack and so forth (hehe: "Blah. I hate bows.") Anyway, the monstrous spider wasn't much trouble. Vico ended up naked and poisoned, but I still had restoration potions left over from Hyath's Temple, so no problem there. Anden landed the kill with his nice new Bow of Fire. Had reasonable luck with the prowling umber hulks, and decided it would be a waste of time to bother fighting any of the formians, so parked the party, went invisible and ran through there in about two minutes flat. Then it's just a short trip to the dwarven settlement, and there we are. |

For the forest orcs, I laid explosives as they chased me and ran back to the front of the area. I managed to set 4 explosives in their path and they were pretty mashed after that and trivial to finish off. (I'm similar with dialogues, I often save and try them all again just to see). Oh yeah the spider, Anden finished off from a distance, I didn't need to risk anyone in melee combat. |

Finished the game. Cool ending. Anyway I'm a CG from LG rogue 2/wizard 2 now with 6 of the 7 lessons done. I don't intend taking more than about 5 rogue levels over the whole 2 parts to make sure I have some decent spellchucking abilities otherwise I'm just going to be a hybrid lame rogue/lame wizard. |

Thanks, it looks like I'll need it. I had too few hit points for the gladiator crew - literally banged to death. :( So I am doing the Golden Chalice quest, when I get to one trap, and the dumb paladin treads over it and kills me. *grrr* But I'm trying to keep my sexual favours to a minimum, shying away from them where ever possible. So I escaped the one with the noble in the Mayor's House. I also refused all of Jacia's quests, except getting the key from Vlad. |

You're gonna be hurting for XP too. It turns out that the gladiator quest is more rewarding if you sneak in anyway (locks and a few traps, plus loot you don't get later, as the area is replaced when you return with Vico), you'll just need to boost your lockpick skill as much as possible. Gloves of the Rogue, plus the Amulet of the Master, plus a Potion of Rogues' Cunning (useful!) was sufficient for J'aime, IIRC. Thieves' tools would stack on top of that, so you ought to be able to manage that first lock somehow. The ones inside can probably be knocked, though that's still just a guess. It's the outside one that has the highest DC anyway. |
