Yep! It's SHIT.
In the shadow of the light from a black sun
Frigid statue standing icy blue and numb
Where are the frost giants I've begged for protection?
I'm freezing

The duck story. It's a shock when you find out what some people will do. Mind you, I've always found tripe a deeply difficult subject to explain. "But why does Grandad eat it??"

I'm pretty sure we don't have to worry about Mexicans and female mutilation: and I hate to say this Regullus, but the attitude displayed by the Mexican father is a world-wide one, and it's a feminist rather than cultural issue. The Muslim women in the docu are caught in a real bind. A cultural practice has become deeply embedded in religious practice: how do they change one without undoing the other? (Without getting lynched?) They can choose to be observant, or not. I don't get why women choose it, myself.

If my grandfather had thought he would have to become "Anglo" in order to migrate to Australia, I'd be talking to you from Killeagh, Co.Cork.
The biggest problems migrants have are isolation and prejudice. Many live in cultural ghettos as a reassurance. This then compounds their feelings of isolation, and raises the hostility against them.
Absolutely, there are cultural clashes, and new arrivals anywhere show respect when they try to observe foreign customs. But they have to learn them first, and the decision to take on a different value is very challenging. Identity is really important. If we sat down and identified the perceived common values of our cultures we would find ones that native borns don't share.

And now to return to topic, :angel2: that is kind of funny, Krazy. I am wondering why Barack and Hillary don't team up: Barack would get the benefit of Hillary's experience, and she would get the benefit of his charisma. The first woman and the first African-American Pres/Vice-Pres is surely a no-brainer if you are running on a "New Direction" platform.

I did say it was hardly either a unique point of view nor solely peculiar to Mexico, just an anecdote but it also an example of how the child of immigrants can be divided between societal and cultural pressures.

I got to find a picture of the duck.

As to a Clinton/Obama ticket or vice versa. Too early tell.

Edit:

Muscovy Duck - The females are prettier

Doesn't mention anything about Florida laws protecting the duck against Haitian immigrants. Hmm, was my random stranger lying? :D

Edit, again, yes, again, turns out the Muscovy duck is very personable duck who's meat tastes like veal and I'm just a duck bigot. :(

I'd like to add that at this point I have taken my Spider Jerusalem action figure and tied his wrist to my Cassidy (from Preacher) action figure just so I can work out which positions are feasible with them and which aren't.

Read that and weep, internet. Weep!

Those links are by duck lovers: they may be biased. :D

The biggest problem can be identifying what are the practices that make up identity, and what are the practices that resulted from living in a very small and/or impoverished community. The pressures on second generation migrants are often extremely intense: but I think all families have conflicts between what the parents and children want.

I would love to see a Clinton/Gore ticket again. Those were the good old days. Al probably doesn't want to play second banana again, though: and Hillary might not have the patience to wait longer.

I really think we should ban political advertising in its present form. Candidates should only be able to present a short list of "we will" items. I'd love that. Everybody would have to come out and say what they really believe.
