http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/tan...1405295306.html There is something terribly cheap about this. "You can come here, but don't try to run away. We know where you live." Is that a threat to their parents? It didn't work last year, and the athletes had huge support when they all just vanished from the Games Village en masse. Nearly all the people who claimed refugee status last year got it. Kind of suggests we should be letting them in. |

That's not as embarrassing as what your Prime Minister said about Barack Obama. |

In the shadow of the light from a black sun Frigid statue standing icy blue and numb Where are the frost giants I've begged for protection? I'm freezing | |

That's not as embarassing as losing the Commonwealth Tri-Series final. |

1. John Howard says stuff like that all the time. I have been complaining about him for years. God, is that the first time anyone else has noticed? That said, I am more than happy to turn this thread into "Dumb stuff my PM has said." 2. What is the Commonwealth Tri-series final? (I suspect cricket.) And why should I care about losing it? Isn't it a game? And surely the only reason to be embarrassed is because Australia lost to England? (Did they?) And if that is the case, isn't commenting on it kind of an own goal for you? I'm sorry for my complete lack of interest in sport. I sense a wasted opportunity for discussion. :'( |

This sounds awfully evil, but your confusion makes it all the funnier.

Eh? Eral's got it all spot on, even is she's not sure she has. And if it was me I would have not mentioned the cricket, 'coz losing 5-0 for the first time since 1921 in the Ashes is a far greater embarrassment as Eral was pointing out. But having just watched Mr Blair, on TV this morning coming up to his 10th year (a first for a Labour polly), I feel sick, after the interview not unexpectedly covered Iraq. |

But leaving Australia with a trophy for the first time in 20 years was ok. |

Thanks, I did that on purpose. I didn't want to be brutal with you. The rumour floating around that I am bitchy and condescending is almost totally untrue. Good work Krazy, for getting it. I can see I used self-deprecation very effectively. The bottom is going to fall out of the Australian team any tick of the clock now. In the 70's the West Indies were unbeatable for years, and many painfully derogatory comments were made about Australia's cricketers. And then bang! The West Indies have been a puddle of mush for some time now. The Australians have been enjoying this moment of glory: but watch how ugly it gets when they have to start re-building after the powerhouses retire. *the fact I know this does not mean I have any interest in cricket. I try to remain completely ignorant of all forms of sport, but it's just not possible. :'( * |
