Just wanted to wish everyone a happy pagan celebration co-opted by us Christians for our own spring rebirth tale. Friday we went to the zoo and Katya saw the Easter Bunny. Got a hug from him, in fact. Actually, we decided there must be two Easter Bunnies, one male and one female, to make the job a little more do-able. Yesterday we had our first parent-child swimming lesson, then Gordon and I went and saw Shooter. (Katya had a babysitter.) Today was much fun and I'm very tired. We had an Easter egg hunt (plastic ones with treats inside) and the Easter Bunny also brought Katya a train set and a soccer ball. (The train cars were in the eggs. Cut down on the candy.) Then we had a dinner with our local relative and a couple of friends and their baby - a nice big ham and white potatoes and sweet potatoes and asparagus and corn and salad and a really really really good apple pie for dessert. And now Katya's having a bath with her dad while I squeeze in an extra sliver of pie. Plus we'll do something fun tomorrow, although Daddy has to go to work. |

Ahh, that all sounds so nice! I'll have to steal the egg stuffing idea for next year.
:) Enjoy tomorrow! |

I'm having a 4-day weekend as well, being a spoiled office worker. Thursday was the last day of one of my co-workers, so there were drinks at the pub after work. We got to hear the story of how one of our draftspeople fled Cuba. Pretty interesting. Later, Justin and I ventured out to an all-night dance party, as one of my favorite DJs was in town. The stragglers of Trevor's going-away party had moved there as well. We hung out and danced for a few hours, though it's not in us anymore to party until 5AM. With a fond farewell to Trevor, we left at about 2. We didn't do a whole lot on Friday. Justin's dad came over and they changed the oil in the truck. J and I watched a couple of movies (The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, and La règle du jeu/The Rules of the Game) and ate junk food. Saturday, we went out for breakfast at a favorite place, then ran across the street to see if the bag for J's upright bass was in (it wasn't). We took a bunch of recyclables to the bins and some clothes to a charity shop, where I bought a skirt and a corset-belt. The rest of the afternoon was pretty lazy. For supper, we grilled honey-garlic porkchops to serve with sauteed vegetables and salad. We ran to IKEA to buy some curtains I wanted before heading to a friend's place to watch the Ultimate Fighting. Good company, but the two major fights were dull, or rather, the grudge fight was two guys dancing around doing nothing, with the judges awarding the win to the guy who did throw a couple of punches, and the title fight was over too soon to build much excitement (the challenger took it). The lightweight fight was really good though; lots of action, and the two participants showed a lot of class with each other. Sunday, we made huevos rancheros and put up the curtain rods. Justin went quadding, but came home early because he needed to fix his machine. I read with the cats, hemmed the new curtains, and had a bath while he was gone/tinkering. We heated a deli pizza and brewed some chai and watched Secretary. At the moment, I am enjoying my coffee, having scarfed the chocolate "croissants" I made earlier (1 package of refrigerated crescent roll dough, 2 Mars Bars; unroll dough and chop chocolate bars; divide chocolate between dough sections; fold into packets, pinching edges tight; bake at 350F approx 10min). There's laundry to finish. J's got friends to see later, once his jeans are dry, I guess. |

I belong to one of those families that does not speak to or see its members as often as we should, but if someone needed anyone to fall on a sword for her, there would be a queue waiting to commit the deed. -Min Jin Lee | |

Family for dinner. Mind you, half of us where elsewhere, so it was really easy to prepare and we all sat at one table.
We kept looking over our shoulders for everyone else. We decided that small families are too quiet.

Wak wak waaaah. <_< If that is a reminder that necro-posting is not The Thing, I'm going to point out that I haven't been able to post for a month - do you know how many cups of coffee without a newspaper and CoffeeTalk that was? I suffered. I'm probably going to dig out everything that has happened here while I was invisible, and go over it all. Bear with me, please. For some reason Easter isn't deemed a Holy Day of Obligation Family festival: and members can go off for the weekend with their lower-case family. We still have an upper-case Family gathering, but it's more like our usual weekly gatherings. This year two of my sisters offered their place, but my dad insisted it was at my place. That was funny, because he told me he was organising it. Then, on the Thursday before, he admitted he didn't really feel up to putting on a Feast, so of course, I offered. My dad is a very cunning person.
