A Wikipedia Game; If you're feeling bored

I just love browsing through various topics on Wikipedia. I can spend hours upon hours just clicking from one topic to the next.

So a few days ago, one of my housemates and I came up with a funny game: You have to get from one topic to another almost completety unrelated one in as few clicks as possible. There are some rules involved:

- You can only use hyperlinks. No search engines or anything similar.
- You can't leave Wikipedia.
- You can use English pages only.
- You're not allowed to (temporarily) edit a page to your benefit.

Fairly obvious rules. The winner is the person who posts the shortest route the quickest. A round is over when everyone has given up.

It's fun and educational too! :lol:
So anyone interested?

I think it sounds like fun and educational too.

I'd like to add that at this point I have taken my Spider Jerusalem action figure and tied his wrist to my Cassidy (from Preacher) action figure just so I can work out which positions are feasible with them and which aren't.

Read that and weep, internet. Weep!

Neat :D

Alright, for the first round, let's start with topics that aren't too weird.

Start: Lunch box
Finish: Aspen

Ok, I'm so going to have to wait to play the Wiki game. I have guests coming for a long weekend and still stuff to do and I getting too absorbed by the links, I'm on my 3rd link.

I'll see after I get my chores done if I have time. :(

Probably later for me too, just been to see a family friend who just had a hip replacement and a bit busy now.

Hmm apparently this one is fairly easy: 3 clicks.

Start: Lunchbox
1 -> All articles with unsourced statements
2 -> As
3 -> Aspen

Maybe we should introduce another rule; you are not allowed to use the category links at the bottom of a wiki page.

Yeah, that's probably a loophole that should be closed.

My guests leave tomorrow and if I can remember my link progression, :unsure: I'll try to get up results Monday night or Tuesday.

hello :)
I suppose we aren't allowed to edit the pages to make it easier for us lazy people?

(Totally unrelated: oh God how I've missed this fellow -> :bex: Also, needed to post that in humble gratitude for her ladyship's efforts at retrieving my stuff. Thanks, Bex!)

I'm going to have to show my kid Spud's avatar. She'll love it.

Thanks, Spuddy. Can you post the pink one and the black one dancing together? The pink one has hair very close to the colour of my daughter's hair and she likes pink, and side by side they'd be very cute and my little one would be very impressed.

(sorry to interrupt the game, Nibby.)

Ha, well not much gaming to interrupt, is there?

Anyway, if someone has ideas for new wiki pages, please don't hold back.

Sorry, Nibby. As I mentioned in RC, my back is killing me at the moment and sitting is pretty uncomfortable, I'm actually typing this on my knees. :rolleyes:

I do want to play the game.

A couple of more days and I should back (ha) on track.

Well, that's the good thing about the game. There's no real commitment required :D

If you feel like breaking a record, just go for it.

I have no idea how you got from lunch boxes to aspens. (I enjoyed both articles, though. Love Wiki.)

I am going to have a try starting with Lizzie Borden. :unsure:

Okay then, first attempt.

Lunchbox -> School
School -> United Kindom
United Kingdom -> Geography of the United Kingdom
Geography of the United Kingdom -> Forest
Forest -> Tree
Tree -> Aspen

6 clicks.

:lol:

Lizzie Borden to Wiccan Rule of Three, 8 clicks.

You could spend a lot of time doing this. ;D

The only problem with this game is that Wikipedia is the interweb's toilet wall....

Whilst it makes a fun diversion, it's slightly annoying knowing that you could be assimilating a whole load of disinformation. In fact it's been recently shown that journalists from major newspapers here like the Telegraph, Times and Guardian are just taking information from Wiki and using it without bothering to check it. Pathetic all told.

Hmm yes, but that doesn't make Wikipedia bad, it makes those reporters bad.

I think it also makes me a slightly better person for actually trying to change inaccurate details in articles that I happen to care about. (Now where is that pat-myself-on-the-back smiley, perchance?)

Sadly, returning two weeks later I all too often find some sad :fap: has expunged my facts and replaced them with the sort of crap that was there before I did my civic duty.
