There is a restaurant here that uses grated beets as part of their homemade veggieburger patties, which makes for a really good colour and texture approximation. I've never heard of using beets as a burger topping. |

Agreed! And steak sauce on the table in a good steak house fills me with despair and rage. A friend of mine still gives me grief because of the night we had some really nice steaks for dinner. They actually tasted like they came from an animal, rich and earthy and alive. I literally screamed when he dumped the platter juice down the sink. I had PLANS for that blood. |

The only thing that belongs on good steak is some fresh course-ground pepper. |

I like a LITTLE pepper put on the steak while cooking so it integrates a bit. I'm pretty sensitive, and I think pepper is overwhelming. |

Don't like cheese on burgers, but the classic, tomato, lettuce, ketchup, mayo, pickles, onion etc are all good. Beetroot, no thanks. As for steak, I prefer bearnaise or garlic butter, if I put anything on it. Not fond of black pepper either. |

I usually press some garlic and hide my steak under it. This will come back and haunt you in the morning. Also known as a garlic hangover. |

I just pray Drew never reads this thread. He's a serious vegetarian - maybe even a vegan. I'm hoping the title dissuades him from getting to page 3.I'm not sure what you mean by "in" the burger, Eral? |

Exactly, which is why I answered with Mad Cows and was accused of being flippant <_< In the burger is what makes the burger itself (ie ground up cows etc), what you put on top of it are the toppings. |

"Pancakes" is a seriously misleading topic heading for what has become "Our favourite way to eat animals." He'll expect us to be way off-topic by now, too, possibly discussing dog shows, and that will double the strength of the blow. Sorry, Drew. Just not thinking. By 'in' I meant 'between the two halves of the roll.' Thank you for helping to clarify my error without sneering at my unbelievable stupidity, Regullus. You have such tact. Thanks to everyone else for making the giant leap of logic required to work out my meaning; it's very kind of you to be so tolerant. I was going to discuss beetroot in - OH, SORRY- on hamburgers, and ponder why Australians thought it would be a good idea, but for some reason, I don't feel like it now.

Breakfast

Well tonight I made a pretty good dinner. I put together a vegetable-pasta casserole thing which also had some white sauce I made from scratch and ground beef in it. It was pretty good.

Dinner tonight was almonds, grapes, Pacific Rose apples (which are really yummy), a gouda-style cheese, the goatiest havarti I have ever tasted, hummus, and some garlic melba toasts, with chocolate cupcakes for dessert. |

Cool, I've seen those on dog breed posters but never actually encountered one. One thing I miss about rural areas, not many folks in suburbia keep hounds. |

http://www.italiangreyhound.org/pages/200about_igs.html This dog is the exact opposite. It is so wussy, it doesn't like getting it's feet wet. You have to brush it's teeth every day, presumably because it is too dainty to *gnaw on a bone. Clearly, this was a dog you had in the age of servants. *Damn, even talking about dog shows takes you into Drew unfriendly territory. I give up. LD, I think that was a lasagna. I have been pondering Inky's dinner for a few days now: it has delicious components, and yet, I found it vaguely unsatisfying. Something is missing, I said to myself. I have just now realised what:no, not meat, main course! Inky made herself entree and dessert for dinner!
A cheese and fruit platter, with dip, followed by sweet cakes! That is awesome. Those are my favourite parts of the menu. Having bravely pulled myself together, I am ready to further discuss The Great Australian Hamburger. from Wiki:
Also: http://blogs.smh.com.au/sit/archives/2007/..._be_beaten.html I had totally forgotten the ring of pineapple that was prevalent in my youth. Some people preferred it fresh, rather than grilled. I can't decide if it's worse than pineapple on pizza. (There are times when I think Australians are actively hostile towards food. :ph43r: "Ah to hell with it, put the whole garden in it." ) |

I might have to try the Aussie burger. I'm thinking of one burger w/all the options. You know, I really can't quite picture the final taste combinations.

I just spent a few days in Italy, so of course I have to get back to the pizza debate. If the base can't bend, then it is not a 'good' pizza. Interesting hint I learned. |

I believe that is true. The ones we make with Turkish bread do not bend, and it was difficult to adjust at first. Bendiness is kind of essential to getting cheese and tomato paste all over yourself. I have long accepted the sign of a great meal is on your shirtfront. |

Italian greyhounds snap their legs just jumping off the couch. I wish I was joking. One of the biggest, burliest, most abrasive guys I know thinks they're wonderful dogs. "But they're so CUTE!" he booms. I was amused and relived to see the manly pink now that I know what it means. Hang in there, Eral. |

I have no idea what you're talking about, so here's a picture of a bunny with a pancake on its head. Tragically Oolong died in his owner's arms on January 7, 2003. He is missed. ![]() Since the inception of the Pancakes thread there have been many, many stories about pancakes including National Pancake Day. Sadly, National Pancake Day was solely an American holiday and I didn't want to make the rest of you . I resisted all pancakes stories until today. What can I say? My will is weak.
