Oh, how sad! Hopefully they'll make another nest, though it's got to be getting on a bit. |

Apparently it's in the realm of possibility, Inky, but the woman who manages the project pointed out that the pair already put a lot of effort into this lot ... they incubated in snow, for goodness sake. I saw a pic of Princess with snow on her as she sat on the eggs. It's been miserable weather for them this year. My kiddo took the news better than expected. |

Yes, I know. If the water didn't drown them, the shock of the rescue was probably too much. I log on to falconcam first thing every morning. I was so looking forward to watching them grow. I'm glad Katya is taking it well - I'm gutted. We'll have to wait for next year. I was cross with nature, but then I realised it was the fault of the idiot who didn't ensure proper drainage of the ledge. Drainpipes. They are essential to civilised existence. If we are going to build cities on the spaces where bird nest, then we should make sure they are efficiently drained. :( |

There was a drain on the nestledge -- that grey thing you could see on the left. But the rain was so bad in Manitoba they were evacuating people, never mind birds. There's also a very nice, brand new nesting box at last year's nesting site (on the same building), but while the birds did give it a scratch, they chose the nestledge instead. They successfully fledged three chicks from the nestledge in 2006. Maybe they'll lay again, this time in the box, or maybe they'll use the box next year. Really, the parents are the ones who picked their nesting spot. |

I'm actually pretty crushed by this news which surprises me as I haven't even seen them. What did the article say? 13 eggs in 10 yrs with 3 survivors? The idea of the parent desperately trying to shield them from the rain is just gut wrenching. |

Babies in Edmonton! Two of them. The mother is named Radisson -- she's Trey's daughter, born at the Radisson hotel in Winnipeg. Edmonton falcons |

Babies! A friend of mine is checking on wild raptor nests today. She's thrilled beyond belief, was beginning to think she'd never get to use her wildlife biology degree again. I'm jealous. |

Here's a picture on a forum about falcons: teeny fluffball No one seems sure if there's one or two because there's either still an egg there, or it's a big piece of the shell. |

Whoo hoo! I have been tuning in to the Alberta Uni site every day, but so far have only seen the mother. The web cam at Alberta is not nearly as interesting as the Winnipeg one. :( Here is a photo of the bird sitting on her eggs. And another one. And another one. You begin to suspect there is only one photo. |

New news on the falcon front! They're trying to foster a pair of captive-bred chicks with Princess and Trey, the pair that lost the three chicks in the downpour. If the fostering works, I'm hoping the webcam will be up and running again on Monday! They're putting the chicks on the same building, but in a nest box instead of on the dreaded ledge. |

It didn't work. Apparently Trey and Princess weren't up for another stab at parenting this year. |

I have regularly seen the chick now.
:) It looks very lonely with no siblings to huddle with. :( Still prefer live feed. |
