Some time ago, Jack posted a tutorial for making text, mainly names, in IrfanView. Thes names had an opaque background making it necessary to take them to GIF Works and change them to a transparent, My computer has a conflict with GIF Works, so I had to find a different way and here's how:
Make Alpha per Jack's Tutorial, at the bottom of this screenshot, is show options dialog. Put a check in this. Next, put a check in save interlaced, a check in save transparent color and a tic in save transparent color during saving.

This will be at the top of the screen when you click save

You have saved what you had in Irfanview as a Transparency.

<span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>Jack posted this.USING ALPHAS FOR SIGS IN IRFANVIEW

This is a very easy way to make your name in IRFANVIEW using non animated alphas

Bring up IRFANVIEW go to IMAGE then CREATE PANORAMA IMAGE
Select SORT IMAGES and click on the circle next to DON'T SORT now click OK

Now click on ADD IMAGE then browse for your ALPHA FOLDER (I put mine in MY DOCUMENTS)
Click on the first letter of your name and open
click on ADD IMAGE then select the second letter of your name and open and continue doing this until you have completed your name.

Now click on CREATE IMAGE and your name will appear on a banner (but it will be too big to use at this point)

go to IMAGE and in the drop down box select RESTORE/RESIZE and alter the size of your sig (I usually put W400)
Now go to FILE and SAVE AS, rename your sig and save it.
