The following post was made by Rip and moved to this folder so it could be separate from the Avast antispyware program: Happy that Rip posted this as there has been a lot of confusion when Grisoft did away with the 7.1 and folks began to get popups saying their program would expire in January. So here is the post from Rip: Update AVG by January 15 If you already have AVG installed on your computer, you may get a warning that you need to upgrade by January 15, 2007. Most people are currently using AVG version 7.1, but you are required to install the newer version, 7.5. Here is how to upgrade to the latest version of AVG Free: 1. Go to http://www.free.grisoft.com/doc/avg-anti-v.../lng/us/tpl/v52. 2. Click on the "Download free version" button near the middle. 3. Under the Windows heading, click on the link that starts with "avg75free_..." 4. Click on the "Open" or "Run" button that appears. 5. When the Setup program runs, you’ll have to click Next and accept the license agreement. 6. When it asks you to "Select Setup Type", choose "Repair Installation" and click Next. ____________________________________________________________________ Micorosft is offering a free 90 Day trial version of "One Care" If you want to try, go to: http://www.windowsonecare.com/Default.aspx -------------------- |

The program pop-up box for AVG Version 7.1 users reads that the free version will expire January 15 but the on the AVG home website it reads February 18. So it appears they have extended it for another month. New Free Anti-Virus GRISOFT is announcing a new version of the AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. This new 7.5 version with improved performance and full compatibility with the latest Windows Vista version is available. Users that are using AVG Free 7.1 will be provided with a specific dialog, within the next few weeks, with the opportunity to choose the right option fulfilling their needs. AVG Free 7.1 version will be discontinued on 18th of Feb 2007. |

SR, am sure that will make those that still are using the 7.1 happy but I never quite understood why those do not go ahead and download and install the newer version 7.5 and be done with it and not have to worry about it expiring... Shetland Rose, you have a great weekend my friend... David |

Maybe it is procrastination, BenDavid? I got my new version right away and have no problems. Some of my friends have been calling me on the telephone in a panic asking me what they should do now that their AVG Free is no longer available and expiring. I wish Grisoft had made their announcements clearer that there is another FREE version just a download away. |
