Mt. Ayaas is the fifth mountain of Rodriguez, Rizal to have an itinerary in Pinoy Mountaineer (after Pamitinan, Binacayan, and Lubog). It is also the seventh Rizal mountain in a span of a year to be documented in the website (the Montalban mountains plus Irid and Daraitan). The thrust towards documenting and featuring mountains in the near-Sierra Madre is in line with our thrust of combating destructive mountain practices through ecotourism.

We reached the jump-off point, which is the baranggay hall at around 4am. Yes, it was that early. There were 4 of us in this group. We traveled by van from Farmers mall in Cubao. Travel time was around 45 minutes. Upon reaching Puregold in Rodriguez town, we rented a tricycle to take us to the jump-off.

Registration fee is just P50. Guide fee is P300 per peak to be climbed.

It was still dark when we set out. That was around 4:30am. We took our first group photo as soon as the sun lit up the sky.

We've reached the summit 30 minutes from dawn.

The views;

Awesome!

We haven't reached the peak yet but as soon as the view of the plains begins to show, we pulled out our camera and took some shots.

No. Not some. Lots of shots! :D

Descending from the peak

I've hiked on 6 other peaks before. This one gave me the hardest climb so far. It was not about the height anyway but the trail down. It was a steep descent, which even lasted for 1 hour. It's a 45-degree slope and I was carrying around 5 kilos on my back. The problem with me (who has a very slight injury in my left knee that I got from a simple accident) is that every time I land my foot, it's as if i'm trying to drop all the weight on my back (5kg) plus my own body weight onto my knees. Worse, it was an hour descent from the peak. Lesson learned was that I should go light to endure the long climb and descent.

We ran out of water already. Luckily, we came across a water supply pipe and our guide pulled out the plug, which was made of a small branch, to let us drink and fill up our water containers.

There's an abandoned house near this 'watering hole', by the way.

We also noticed the Pomelo tree and there were fruits. Magz Valencia, our team leader, climbed up and picked out some.

We also got ourselves some bananas when we can across a tree bearing a dozen ripe pieces.

We rested, had our lunch and took a nap, when we reached this humble house. Guess what? This nipa house is equipped with a Solar panel. The man claimed he spent around P10,000 to complete this solar power system.

Afterwards, we headed to Mt. Sipit Ulang

CELEBRITIES Who Climbed Mt. Ayaas

As per our guide, the celebrities include;

1. Kylie Padilla
2. Ryza Cenon
3. Rocco Nacino

Posted Image
actress Kylie Padilla of GMA Kapuso talent pool

Our guide, 'Mang Dado' narrated how amazed he was about Kylie.

She's kind and beautiful.

The frail-looking TV princess (should I say queen for being Sangre Amihan?), showed a different woman when she climbed Mt. Ayaas.

Mang Dado claimed that she had a good balance and courage. She was running and not just walking when she was descending from the peak of Mt. Ayaas.

Mang Dado said that at that time there were no steps to make it easier for the hikers to climb down yet. The slopes were totally just as it was, with nothing to stop you when you stumble.

When they were in the river, Kylie was standing on a 4-meter tall rock. Mang Dado offered a hand but he was surprised to hear a loud splash while preparing to climb the rock. Kylie just jumped from that 4-meter high rock.

She wasn't able to climb Mt. Sipit Ulang though because her bodyguard got injured on his foot and couldn't accompany her anymore. She said her dad told her that she cannot just go w/o her bodyguard.
