Sea of Clouds Mt. Maynuba and Cayabu

Mt. Maynuba plus Mt. Cayabu and 8 Wonder Falls

Brgy. Cayabu, Tanay, Rizal

- summit at 662 MASL
- also called Mt. Maynoba

Days required / Hours to summit: 1 day / 2-3 hours
Specs: Minor hike, Difficulty 3/9 (Summit); 4/9 (Loop hike), Trail class 1-4
Features: Sea of clouds, scenic views of the Sierra Madre, waterfalls

Probably, of all the mountains in Rizal, Mt. Maynuba gives the highest success rate of seeing the sea of clouds.

Another 'Hayahay' trail with some steep portions when ascending towards the summit but these portions are already easy to climb nonetheless since steps have been carved out of the slopes.

Reaching the summit requires 2 hours of hike. Be sure to start your hike by at least 4:30AM if you wanna catch the sunrise and the sea of clouds.

Camp Site 1 location itself, which comes first before the summit, gives an awesome view of the Sea of Clouds.

I suggest you stay here first and get a shot of the sea of clouds. This spot is around 100 feet lower than the summit. At this level you will be a little closer to the level of the Sea of Clouds. This gives you one of the best angles of view for your camera.

Perhaps, hikers can try going up there by 3:30PM to catch the sunset, set up camp, watch the stars above and then wake up early enough to catch the sunrise.

There's another Camp Site past the summit. But the best one is Camp Site 1 if you want to enjoy the best photo shots of the Sea of Clouds.

After spending around 30 minutes to 1 hour, proceed to the Summit to get a good photo shot from a higher angle.

You may also set up camp at the summit but they only allow a few tents since the spot should be kept accessible to all hikers.

Best chance to see the Sea of Clouds is when there's rain the night before.

December (up to January) also gives it the best chances of witnessing this sea of clouds.

This mountain is at the foothills of the Sierra Madre in Tanay, Rizal offers breathtaking views of the Sierra Madre mountains, and enough variety in the trail to sustain one’s interest throughout the loop hike – from a steep, forested ascent up the so-called “Mt. Cayabu” (which is actually more of a subsidiary peak of Maynuba), a grassy, open trek at the higher reaches, and a descent through woodland that culminates in a small river system with a good number of waterfalls.

Suggested for beginners too including family campers.
