So I downloaded the demo and installed it, account set up was a royal pita, and the grafics are unduly hoggy despite not being all that good compared to other games. (guess this is due to the MASSIVE outdoor maps) Anyway... the one map ALL the demo servers are playing is an assault style thing where you capture possitions and hold them to score. You pick one of several spawn points at which to respawn when you die. Sounds ok so far right?

No... not really... since the spawn point and the capture point are more or less one in the same. So what you wind up with is some nerd in a tank camping the spawn point till its taken. Meanwhile you are spawning in at the same spot every time with just the basic kit for your class. The game wont shift you to a clear spawn till the one you picked has been taken by the opposing team! (Maybe there is a way to change this through the HUD or something IDK)

Of the two servers I tried out gameplay always seemed to wind up being vehicle DM. If you actually managed to get away from, or pick a spawn that wasnt under attack, combat on foot was more or less non-exsistant. One server was at max players (64) and I ran around for 20 minutes without seeing nary a soul. (I managed to snipe 3 guys, the only three people I saw NOT in a vehicle!)

I tried out the sniper, assault, and support classes, sniper is kinda cool but there is no friggin way to actually tell where your shots are hitting at the longest visible range. I wound up getting within 50-100 yards and just pop-shoting people. Assault and support classes were...I dunno... I didnt actually find anyone to fight when I was trying them out but aiming is wierd. You actually raise the gun up and focus in on the gunsights built into the gun. This is really odd and bothersome as you loose vis on over half the screen with some weapons, and you dont actually seem to gain any acuracy.

Maybe Im just old... but this game just isnt appealing.

I think the first BF was awesome because of all the possibities u had. Jeeps, tanks, airplanes, ships and on and on. Never seen anything like it at the time. It was the first game where it all came together, a true battlesimulator!
However, the sequel BF2 has nothing new beside improved graphics, oh yes and some silly sh*ty airstrike attack or something witch alwas got released over my spawnpoints - really irritating - kinda like your tank camper guy  We have played BF2 once at NetParty (LAN party) and never got back to it, maybe we will, if they chance something about those spawnpoints, so u have someway to protect them. How about building a sentrygun there
Well I'm not a saint either... Here's how u win in BF everytime. Be a sniper, get to the default spawnpoint of your opponents and campsnipe them everytime they run out in the yard trying to get a tank. Or if your not a class A sniper, get one of your opponents tanks and run about in their yard shooting all thier tanks and airplanes as they respawn. Notice where their repair pad is, and go there often. One of the maps I used to love, u actualy could get one of their tanks get up on the repair pad and camp there shooting everything in their yard - priceless fun :crazy

No, give me Team Fortress, here is a timeless classic witch never will die, however I really hate that bungee jumping thing where people seem to fly around in the air, I wish there where some way u could turn that sh*t off on a server cource it ruins the balance.

I got the BF2 demo when it first came out. I played it for awhile, but multiplayer does not support 56K like BF Vietnam or BF 1942.

The "eye candy" is nice, but I rather have my fast-paced fortress :)

Honestly... I cant say the grafics were any better than any other run of the mill PC title. I was definitly not impressed... :dunno

Guess I better attempt some maps for ETF to get the gameplay I want.

 That is an insult!

:D well to each his own, but the game really is good if you play it more. How you could have played on a full 64 player map and not have seen anybody is impossible. The game is action packed. If you only played the demo version, which I think only has one map, then you didnt get the full experience. I play BF2 non-stop, and is the reason I wanted a new computer, (which my brother in law gave me for christmas. :) ) :drink
ETF was too much for me, but I didnt give it much of a chance either. :dunno

The graphics are better, you just need a better machine :D

I prefer BF2 over ETF for the same reason you all like ETF. It's fast. I'm not.

BF2 is a great game when you have good teammates, and a nightmare when you don't. Ther are also hundreds of mods out there for it. From reality mods to baywatch, and everything in between. The taliban even uses it so it must be good. :die

It's a game that takes some time to enjoy. The demo really doesn't do it justice. If you have the cash to spare, go out and buy it, or at least borrow it from a friend. Keep playing and you'll soon be pwning like me!
