Ford Explorer; problem

My boyfriend's 1999 Ford Explorer will not start unless you hold the gas down a little bit. If you take your foot off of the gas pedal, it will stall, but there is no check engine light or anything.

I told him that you guys could figure it out

Well, you came to the right place! This is a common problem with this model especially with the change of weather.

Under the hood, you will see a black cover that sits on top of the engine. Remove the 4 screws that hold the cover on and remove the cover. Underneath, you will see a part that looks like this................

Try whacking it with a wrench a few times to see if it starts up and stays running. If it does, then replace that part. It is called an IAC (Idle Air Control) valve or solenoid.

It was so much easier in the old days. Turn the screw in it speeds up. unscrew the screw it slows down.. o O (them were the days. 454cu 1969 olds cutless. Burn endless 360 burns at any inter section ..oh the days )

oh I kind of got off topic lol sorry
