My boyfriend's 1999 Ford Explorer will not start unless you hold the gas down a little bit. If you take your foot off of the gas pedal, it will stall, but there is no check engine light or anything. I told him that you guys could figure it out

Well, you came to the right place! This is a common problem with this model especially with the change of weather. Under the hood, you will see a black cover that sits on top of the engine. Remove the 4 screws that hold the cover on and remove the cover. Underneath, you will see a part that looks like this................ ![]() Try whacking it with a wrench a few times to see if it starts up and stays running. If it does, then replace that part. It is called an IAC (Idle Air Control) valve or solenoid. |

It was so much easier in the old days. Turn the screw in it speeds up. unscrew the screw it slows down.. o O (them were the days. 454cu 1969 olds cutless. Burn endless 360 burns at any inter section ..oh the days ) oh I kind of got off topic lol sorry |
