I am not a racist, nor do I condone it. This is a serious issue though! If this topic gets out of hand, it will be moved to the "Deathmatch" forum and/or closed. Is it a violation of rights to "profile" someone due to there race, religion, looks? Or do we have a right that as a country under the constant threat of attacks from terrorists to "profile" certain individuals? Let's take this example........................... You are a security officer at an airport. You are to randomly check a number of individuals getting on the plane. Who are you going to check? And elderly black woman with her 3 grand children? A middle aged white male with a business suit and tie? A young, Asian mother with a baby? Three males of Middle-Eastern decent? Out of that group, who would you check? The obvious tells us to check the three Middle-Eastern men. In our country, this is considered "Racial Profiling" and is not Constitutional. But given the circumstances, I feel that we have the right to also defend ourselves as a country. Let's take another example thast has nothing to do with terrorism.......... You are a police officer making your normal rounds in town. At the next light ahead, you see 2 cars run a redlight together. The car on the left is a Dodge Caravan with a white couple and 2 teenage children. The car on the right is a Lincoln Navigator with 20" rims and two black males with two women. Both cars turn opposite ways at the next block. Who are you going to choose to pull over? Even if you are a black police officer, instinct tells you that the Navigator may have drugs or guns in the vehicle, but on the other hand, the couple in the minivan might have drugs and guns also. It is a very touchy subject, but I would like to know how you feel about this issue

I think everyone does it. Somewheres once upon a time we all have done it. (In our minds or amongs friends) But I am not saying that about the issue that is happening at this moment. But like you say, Unleash this and be allowed to condemn someone who has no involvement with what he or she is being accused of. Bad News. I am about to move in the jungle lol wher eno man live. The world is getting f..c..n Crazy run away lol

Thats touchy. But yeah, like kai said, we have all done it. Doesnt make us racist, but it is hard to break away from those stereotypes. MM's second example about the black guys riddin on 20s vs. the white couple is a perfect example. But i guess........ i dunno. Let me think some more and post again.... |

You are correct, it is a subject that always seems to attract attention. being in law Enforcement you hear of it all the time. I do not condone it but the Country and its citizens need to be protected. Now for the profiling taken place at an airport. If any of these individuals are not US citizens they do not have the same rights granted by our Constition. They do have certain inalienable rights as outlined in the Declaration of Non-Nationals (1985) but I believe some of these can be taken away in times of National security. Now the Fifth Amendment states the following: No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public dangerl nor shall any person be subject for same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property taken for public use, without just compensation. Now some after reading this amendment and others some would think that it is for all persons( not just citizens), I think that the amendments and protection are for "the people" which are citizens However there are excemptions that cover times of war and national security. I personally think that everyone should be checked out but citizens have different rights than non citizens when it comes to matters. Now for the 2 car incident, I have done it, not intentionally or meaning to. I know atleast here there is not a real problem all the way around. I know people to talk about it, but I think you have to look at what area of the city they are talking about, what is the percentage of race in that area, some areas have a higher percentage of a certain race so at times that particular race may have more arrests or traffic stops that others. I really think that needs to be considered at times, not all cops are solely out to profile and pick on other races or single out. Well I have said enough. Thumper |

If our country is so concerned, then why do we "Profile" Iran when they want to experiment with Nuclear power? Why would we care? We have nukes, so everyone else should too! |
