Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church
7th St. Buffalo, New York

[The scene fades in. We find ourselves in the back of a large victorian style Catholic church. As the camera pans around we are surrounded by pews which appear to go on for an eternity. High vaulted ceilings with sky lights shoot rays of light this way and that cutting in and out of the dark mystique of the large cathedral. We begin to move down the aisle of the massive sanctuary, a large statue of “The Virgin Mary” comes into view located directly behind the altar. Stain glass windows line the walls, different artistic renderings with the stations of the cross are visible on each one. The closer we get to head of the church the more evident it becomes that we are not alone here. A man is sitting by himself in the first pew, his head currently bowed. As we finally make our way around to the mystery man, we identify that it is none other than “The Incomparable” Chris Kage who is sitting alone in this majestic work of architecture. Kage is definitely dressed for the setting, he is wearing a black button-up shirt, with black slacks, a stark contrast to his normal jeans and hoodie look. His hair is slicked back and he has his hands gently cupped together on his lap. Anyone that knows Chris Kage, or knows anything about Chris Kage for that matter, would appreciate the harsh juxtaposition of him sitting in the holiest of places; a church. Kage raises his head up to acknowledge our presence, and begins his address.]

Chris Kage: You know as a kid everything always seems so much larger, so much more glamorous, so much more iconic. It's not till you grow up that you realize, at the end of the day everything is just a facade of riches.

When I was just a boy this church was always so intimidating to me, it's grandness and dark mystique always gave me the chills. My parents carried the weight of the world on their shoulders whenever they stepped foot in here. As if this was the only place they could come to rid themselves of the guilt dragging them down.

Isn't that what we were always taught though? Go to the church, have your sins forgiven, feel better, now go sin again and repeat.

It's no wonder that you see churches popping up on every corner. Just think about it, a place that you can go and have all your transgressions just wiped away, who wouldn't sign up for that.

Be clear. I am not here to bang on religion, or try and make some political statement. I am here to educate the masses about the human element, and it's precious desire for impunity without true sacrifice.

I respect where I sit though, and I respect the way I was raised, so for right now…

I will not curse in this house.

But in the case of the man I will be verbally crushing this fine morning, the truth will be more than enough.

Grady you suffer from the same affliction most the drones that walk through the door of this place do. You think that you can wash away all of your guilt just by simply returning to the alter and spilling your guts to some priest. In your case the alter is the wrestling ring, and the priest is the thousands and thousands of ignoramuses that pack EWA shows every month.

The EWA is not your sanctuary Grady, coming here and appealing to the masses will not change the past. You will not be forgiven in my house Mr. Smith, because the father that you never were, the father that you aren't, and the father you will never be is all the evidence I need here in the EWA to convict you.

See I'm not like you, Grady. I don't need to have my sins forgiven, because I have not sinned. Now many will disagree and tell me to look at how I live my life; drugs, alcohol, greed, violence, these are the things that people will point at. But I learned very early on in my life, regret and guilt was nothing more than the weight of others that I had to bear. So I stopped. And when I did, I realized that it didn't matter what the outside world thought of me, it only mattered what I believed. So I don't need to ask for forgiveness, Grady, because I have done nothing that I wouldn't do a million times over again.

[Kage stands up and rolls his shoulders and looks back into the camera.]

Your son is finally reaching the pinnacle of his career, and just like you've done his entire life you keep trying to overshadow him with your bulging ego. Even when Martin was winning National Championships he had to deal with the whispers and the needling about his larger than life father.

Why can't you let your son succeed, Grady?

What is it inside of you that makes you want to bury your own flesh and blood in the business you helped create? At first I thought it was jealousy, but soon after I realized it wasn't jealousy that was haunting you. No, it was the truth, that's what drives you to hold down Martin. The truth that he is a better wrestler, a better entertainer, a better worker, and a better ambassador of this business than you EVER were, Grady!

Martin is a better man than you are, Grady.

So is Alex

So am I.

And that's why right now your son stands next to us, Grady, and not you.

[Kage begins to walk towards the back of the church. He stops in front of a large crucifix that is mounted on the wall by the door.]

Men and women hold these iconic symbols in their hearts and minds, acting as if they hold some special super human powers to change things.

They look at Grady Smith like this.

The word legend is tossed around with reckless abandon. Does anyone ever take a second and actually look at the man they're drooling over before they begin. I can't believe for a second that they do. It's just another example of blind faith in an idea rather than an educated belief in a fact.

The fact is I am the EWA World Heavyweight Champion, the fact is The Youth is the most dominating faction in wrestling today, the fact is this business passed you by 15 fuc… (Kage stops and puts his hand to his mouth) the fact is this business passed you by 15 years ago, Grady. Those are the facts, those are the realities of the EWA right now. The man you once were inside of a wrestling ring, means nothing when you stand across from the man I am today inside of a wrestling ring.

The false idol that is Grady Smith will come crashing down after Battlelines, the myth of the man that danced through our memories for years will finally be extinguushed.

Like the child I was here in this building, the world has been like when looking at Grady Smith. Living in awe with their mouths left agape, intimidated by his laundry list of accomplishments . But that's all soon to end, everyone needs to grow up sometime, everyone needs see past their own facades.

You wanted Alexander Haven, Grady, well you got the World Champion instead. You came looking for a fight, well big fella, you found your fight, it's just not going to end like you want it too. Maybe when I'm done with you, Alex will come down and sweep up what's left, give you exactly what you were looking for.

You don't have to look very far to see what's on the horizon for you, Grady. Your partners last week know what it feels like to be on the end of my boot, and I'm sure they'd love to tell you about it. Osbourne Kilminster, Ray Willmott, Michael Draven, Erik Draven...the list keeps getting bigger and bigger, I can't wait to add Grady Smith’s name, it should slide in nicely.

[Kage runs his hand through his hair and takes a deep breath before looking back into the camera.]

The more I think about you, Grady, the harder it is to keep myself in a respectful place when I'm talking about you. I think about the last time we stepped into the ring together one on one. All those years ago, I had just won the NYSWF World Heavyweight Championship and you were my first match on the next show. Ya know, your everyday prove it type of match, a match for me to show my title win wasn't a fluke. I had to go out and face the great Grady Smith to prove myself, isn't that a hoot. It was that kind of nonsense that made me start to resent you back then, Grady, because even though I was the man that won the historic Final Solution match...I still had to prove myself!! It was a joke, Grady, it really was. But I was a professional, so I went out in that ring and I showed the world why Chris Kage is, and always will be better than Grady Smith, I pinned you inside that ring, 1...2...3. And just like that...Everyone knew the truth, everyone saw the truth.

I am the best in this business.

I am…

The Incomparable

You, Grady….well..

..You've Already Lost…

[Kage walks out the door of the church, we follow him out. As he begins to cross the sidewalk a girl on a bicycle nearly side swipes him, Kage spins around and begins to scream towards the girl.]

Chris Kage: Watch where you are going ya fucking cunt!! I swear to God I'll slit your fucking throat right here on the street you little bitch!!!

[There he is, the Chris Kage we all know and love. The scene fades out.]
