Red Hot Ray Willmott

[The scene opens to a lone female figure standing in a dark room, the EWA logo positioned prominently behind her. She has red hair, a fairly busty, larger, but most athletic build, and is wearing a cream dress suit. She has a lovely, beaming smile, and has been waiting for the camera to roll before she speaks.]

Female Announcer: Hello, and welcome to the EWA Social Media Lounge. My name is Maria Drake and we’re getting ready for Battlelines later this week.

[She takes a pause, licking her lips.]

Maria Drake: We’ve got a huge main event in Grady Smith vs Chris Kage for the EWA World Heavyweight Championship. X-Calibur and Indrid Calder in the Path of the Warrior Tournament, as well as a Tag Team Championship Open Gauntlet challenge.

Maria Drake: And in an unprecedented tag team event, Lunatikk Crippler and Martin Robertston will square off against former rivals, EWA owner Michael Draven and the brand new Atlantic Coast Champion, my guest at this time, ‘Red Hot’ Ray Willmott!

[Willmott comes into shot with the title belt slung over his shoulder and a smile on his face.]

Maria Drake: Thanks for joining us, Ray.

‘Red Hot’ Ray Willmott: You kidding me? I love this idea. Couldn’t wait to get involved.

Maria Drake: Congratulations on your title win by the way. I bet it feels amazing.

Ray Willmott: Honestly? It’s up there with one of the proudest moments of my career.

Maria Drake: Well, we’re going to take a seat and take fan questions from the big screen here. You’ll be happy to hear there are lots of them.

Ray Willmott: Alright! Let’s get stuck in.

[They sit opposite one another, a large 48” TV screen between them. It’s filled with an assemblage of Tweets, Facebook messages, images, and videos all formed into a cloud-like shape. Ray smiles as he glances at them, then rests the Atlantic Coast Championship on his lap, propping it up neatly.]

Maria Drake: Alright, so we’re just going to dive right in if that’s ok with you?

[Ray nods, then Maria taps the screen and up pops a tweet which fills the screen.]

Maria Drake: So, @MikeTheOne1 wants to know…”Wot did ure family think of you winning the title? Were they pleased?”

Ray Willmott: Oh, they were ecstatic. First thing I did was call my daughter on Facetime and show her the title belt. She screamed down the phone. Then she got my son in the room, he cheered. They were dancing around, doing handstands, cartwheels. It was electric. They couldn’t be happier. I wanted to bring them along today, but uh, we had a last minute hiccup..

Maria Drake: How about your wife? You brother and sister?

Ray Willmott: Nick’s taking me out for beers apparently. Last time he did that we … well, let’s just say I don’t remember much about it. And Vick had pretty much the same reaction as my kids. That’s how I was even able to get in there in the first place. She’s my motivator, Maria. She keeps me going. I wouldn’t have won this if not for her.

Maria: And your wife?

[Ray is noticeably silent and a little rattled that he can’t keep avoiding that question. He just smiles sweetly, patting the title.]

Ray Willmott: Yeah, she’s happy too.

[Taking the cue, Maria moves onto the next asset. She taps the screen and brings up a picture of an angry Dietrich with his arms high in the air, a photoshopped image of Ray Willmott lifted over his head, the words “Die Willmott, Die.” next to him.]

Maria: A few Johan Dietrich fans aren’t happy with the way your match went down. This is a mock-up from Rassler81. How do you respond to that?

Ray Willmott: First off, mad photoshop skills! I’ve been trying my hand at it, but just end up punching out stick-men and crappy writing.

[Maria stifles a laugh.]

Ray Willmott: All seriousness, I completely agree. I’m not happy with the way the match went down either. As greatful as I was not to have Lunatikk Crippler interfere for the first time in weeks, as much respect as I have for him, I didn’t want to see Johnny Napalm there either. Anyone who knows me knows I like to do things the fair and just way. So, as happy and as proud as I am to be the Atlantic Coast Champion, I want you to know, the EWA community to know, and Johan Dietrich to know that anytime you want a rematch for this title? You’ve got it. We'll do it in a steel cage if we have to, make sure everyone keeps out of our business.

[Ray looks down at the belt, then at the camera.]

Ray Willmott: I intend to be a dedicated, hard-working, fair champion. This company is full of hungry, capable, talented people, and the EWA has barely scratched the surface of what this championship can and should be. Now that it’s in my possession? I’m ready to elevate it to the next level.

Maria Drake: And that’s an interesting point because you came in wanting to be the EWA World Heavyweight Champion, yet you seem content and happy to be Atlantic Coast Champion. Does this mean you’re ending your pursuit of that title?

Ray Willmott:Don’t get me wrong, Maria. The EWA World title is still very much my end-goal. If anything, holding this championship has intensified that hunger. BUT … as long as this title is in my possession, it will get my undivided attention. It will be treated with the respect it deserves, and I will make sure that it remains as important and integral to the EWA’s DNA as any other title that has been part of its history.

And something the EWA locker room needs to bear in mind. I worked hard to get here. I went through a lot of shit. A lot of negativity and doubt and scepticism. It’s going to take something pretty phenomenal to wrest this … [he taps the belt] ... away from me.

Maria: Knowing your history, I totally believe you. Let’s move onto the next question. From Facebook, Janet Anns wants to know ‘Now that it’s been announced you will face Crippler at Path of the Warrior in an I Quit match, can we expect to see you compete with him for the Atlantic Coast title?”

Ray Willmott: Great question. The EWA haven’t announced that yet, Janet. If it was up to me, yes. 100% yes. I’m a fighting champion. I’ll take anyone on in that locker room. In the SHOOT Project locker room. Anybody from any locker room around the world and give them a crack, it doesn’t matter to me. And since the fans are now being deprived of Dietrich defending against Napalm, it seems only fair that they should still have an Atlantic Coast Championship match at Path of the Warrior. This is a title that deserves to be featured on that Pay-Per-View, and since I’m the guy holding the belt, it seems like the only logical, fair thing to do.

But it’s not entirely up to me. There’s paperwork, contracts, rankings and all sorts of things to consider. The short answer is, I hope so. Because it’ll add even more excitement to a match that already promises to be pretty exciting. For you guys, at least.

Maria: *laughs* Not exciting for you?

Ray Willmott: Exciting in the sense that I get to punch his teeth down his throat? Sure.

Maria Drake: Well, you get to do that this week. A little bit earlier than planned, right?

Ray Willmott: That’s the plan. I’ll try not to hurt him too much though. Might be a bit embarrassing for him to quit before we even to get to Chicago.

Maria Drake: This actually links in great with our next question. From Twitter again @Haven4prez is asking “How do you respond to Draven’s claims you’re going to join HATE at Battlelines?”

[Willmott audibly laughs. Loudly. He’s laughing so much that the Atlantic Coast title falls off his lap and he has to pick it up off the floor.]

Ray Willmott: Ooooff, that gave me a bit of a stitch.

Maria Drake: Something funny?

Ray Willmott: Hilarious, actually. And that’s just this guy’s username. The claims are ridiculous.

Maria Drake: So, what are you saying?

Ray Willmott: Maria, I’m about to give you your first EWA exclusive. I can tell you with absolute 100% certainty that I will not be joining HATE at Battlelines.

Maria Drake: Care to elaborate?

Ray Willmott: What is there to say? Mike, I’m surprised at you. Did we have some differences when I first came to the EWA? Yes, we did. But we resolved those at Champions Summit. I meant what I said to you. One match, one time to settle things. I’m not holding any grudges. I’m not plotting revenge or planning to cut my hand over your limp body. I came out to defend you at Battlelines because we have a mutual enemy. Because I couldn’t stand to watch you get pushed around and bullied by this group who thinks they have the measure of things around here.

Yes, I openly called a union between Crippler and co a few weeks back because all the signs were there. It’s as if they weren’t even trying to hide it. But this? Makes absolutely no sense. Not least of which I’m already in The Hierachy. Trust me Draven, all you’ve got to worry about at Battlelines is Robertson. You can even leave Crappler to me.

Maria Drake: Another good segue-way because Toni Tony on Facebook wants to know “What’s the deal with you and The Hierachy? Why haven’t they been helping you out with HATE? Have you guys fallen out?”

[Willmott places the title over his shoulder and smiles.]

Ray Willmott: Another great question. You guys are awesome. [Smile]

X and Az have been tearing up the tag-team division lately and doing a hell of a job with it. As a result, they’re going to spend more time with one another. That’s inevitable. And, you know, X is also pretty busy being a 2x Tapout Champion and going deep into the Path of the Warrior tournament. He’s one of the most decorated, respected competitors on our roster, but that does come with a price from time to time. He’s an incredibly busy guy and he’s probably in too many affairs and battles as is.

As for Az, he’s got his eyes on the World title right now. I respect that. It’s his time, and he’s making a bee-line to be the face of this company. I have my own desires for the belt, but those can wait while he’s in the mix. But yeah, as a result, also pretty busy. Deacon also has a lot going on.

So, that’s part of the reason. And also I’ve told them to stay back. To let me handle this. I’m a big boy. I’ve done this before. And I’m not afraid of competition. Of going head first into the fray, whether it’s alone or with someone by my side.

People can cast dispersions all they want. Say things are happening when they aren’t. The Hierachy is good. The Hierachy is strong. We’re brothers. We have each others back when we need it. And at Battlelines, I proved that I’m not the weak link everyone made out, I’m as good as I’ve ever been. I am a championship calibre athlete. A prizefighter, and my place is assured next to the phenomenal talent in this globally recognised unit.

The Hierachy isn’t going away anytime soon.

[Maria taps the screen again and brings up an image of Lunatikk Crippler holding Ray Willmott in a brotherly hug. Both men appear to be laughing. Ray twitches uncomfortably in his seat. The message next to them … “I miss these times :( ” ]

Maria: Let’s talk Lunatikk Crippler and your relationship with him. Betty Price asks “How did it come to this?”

Ray Willmott: I wish I knew, Betty. Honestly, when I first came back I thought Crippler would be one of the people happiest to see me. Instead, I get months full of bitterness and envy. It’s not been easy to deal with if I’m honest. Seeing that photo … it brings back a lot of memories.

Maria: Where was this taken?

Ray Willmott: Japan. We wrestled a bit out there. Was after a tag team match, I believe? We...uh...had some fun with the fans. Played some stuff up in the ring. I remember that night, actually. We went out after the show with Sanders and Kage, drank some sake, sang some karaoke. It was uh … yeah … it was one of those moments you cherish on the road.

[Ray clears his throat and unconsciously seems to clutch the Atlantic Coast title]

Ray Willmott: I disappeared about a year or two after that. It was hard not keeping in touch with good friends. I woke up with a sickness in my stomach everyday. As if I had a hole in my life. That someone had taken the bottom out of my world. I never wanted to abandon anyone, or make someone feel less special. I didn’t have a choice. Family had to come first.

Fast-forward to now …. It’s as if those moments never happened. We’re like strangers, Maria. He’s cost me so many opportunities. He’s messed with my career almost since the day I got here. And it sucks. Because we could have made a run for the Tag Team Championships. We could have put on classic Tapout title matches, or even been headlining EWA Pay-Per-Views in fair, competitive World Championship matches.

It’s funny isn’t it? The one week Crippler doesn’t stick his nose in my match, I win a title. I strike gold. That sums up my EWA career in 2016. Him, appearing from nowhere, affecting the outcome of everything because it doesn’t suit him. He’s desperate to try and make an impression, but the moment he’s out of the picture? I prove that I’m the same competitor I’ve always been. That I can beat anyone on any given night.

So, it needs to end. This….whatever this is... has to stop. And if the only way to do that is beat it out of him in an I Quit match then ... that’s what has to be done.

But there’s one more hurdle before that, Maria. One obstacle. And that’s Battlelines. One last chance for HATE to make their mark. The Youth to leave an impression.

Crip and Robertson. The Youth and HATE uniting in the rarest of situations to take down two legends in the game. United by their own displeasure of the both of us. And anything can happen before Path of the Warrior. Who knows what road they’ll take to ensure max impact?

It’s all about momentum, not just because Crippler will want to try and prove I’m not in his league, why he should be holding a title, why he thinks he’s better than me, but also for me to show that I’m as good of a champion as anyone else in the EWA. Whether it’s chief Youth Head-honcho himself, Chris Kage, whether it’s my brother-in-arms X-Calibur, or Martin Robertston, Network Champion supreme.

This isn’t a throwaway title. This isn’t a footnote in history or a joke-act. This is a prize everyone will come to desire. This division will be lit up with matches that define the EWA, that inspire competition, that bring out the best of this roster and inspire others to jump-ship. I’m as good as any champion the EWA has ever had, and I’m ready to prove that at Battlelines. The legacy of the Atlantic Coast Championship is only just getting started

Maria: Any last words for the fans and your opponents?

Ray Willmott: Just that they shouldn’t be fooled. That what may seem like the sturdiest of unions here in the EWA may actually be the most fragile. There are three pillars of hate, but all it takes are a few cracks in one of them to send everything crashing down.

Perhaps The Youth, even in holding the World Championship, the Tag and Network Championships….perhaps they’re not as powerful as they appear now they’re not able to bully around the top brass. Perhaps there’s a misconception of Youth, in that they don’t actually have all the time in the world. They have no time left at all.

And that just because The Hierachy have different goals, doesn’t mean they don’t have the same ambition. That despite what others may tell you, two former bitter rivals like Draven and Willmott can co-exist and make a great team.

There are prospects and there is also propaganda which paints a convincing illusion. Be careful not to get them mixed up.

Maria: Ray, thank you so much for your time. Best of luck at Battlelines and Path of the Warrior.

Ray: Thanks Maria.

[He stands, puts the title over his shoulder, shakes Maria’s hand with a smile and walks out of shot. We fade to black.]
