Chupacabra

As he reaches the edge of the step, he decides not to go further. Effortlessly, his hands slide into the pocket of his suit pants. Every time he looked out on his property, he felt pride. This is the life he had built, starting from nothing, and amassing a fortune he had never imagined for himself. It surpassed even that of his dreams. As his goals were achieved, he made new goals. Loftier goals. And as he figured out how to achieve each thing he set out to accomplish, it felt like a dream. Because he always felt like a bit of a fraud, like he somehow wasn't responsible for his string of successes despite all evidence to the contrary, he was cautious with his spending.

His estate was the one area on which he would allow himself to splurge. Unlike some material possessions, Augusto was always of the opinion that primary residence real estate was an investment in ones self and could never be a mistake, if one did ones homework. And history would show that the decisions he made were sound.

He hoped his son, one day, would make similarly prudent decisions.

Elisa ~ So where is our little graduate? Have you heard from him?

Augusto ~ I believe we are hearing from him now.

A faint sound is heard and becomes increasingly louder. It is an automobile. As we zoom out, we see it coming up the drive and around the circle in front of the house. In the front seat is a bald young man wearing a black robe and aviator sunglasses. He parks and gets out, a huge smile on his face. He hugs Elisa immediately and then stands in front of the car, his arms spread wide, showing off his new purchase, an antique convertible roadster. Cream with gold accents and dark leather interior. His mother looks in awe. His father lets out a sigh and gives a small nod and a polite smile.

..::[An all black Hummer pulls up to the front door of a hotel. The driver gets out, walks around and opens the back door. Stepping out of the building through the front doors are Diego de Cardenas and his tag team partner, Hector Rodriguez. Each has a black dufflebag in hand and are wearing black pants and silk shirts. They enter the automobile, the driver closing the door behind them.]::..

Diego de Cardenas ~ Yo, so, you think that camera's on? You think they're taping this?

Hector Rodriguez ~ Oh you know it. We're the "also ran" in this Goeren Family Reunion, but they still want to hear from us.

..::[Leaning in, Diego taps his hand on the lens of the camera, getting his entire face in the shot.]::..

Diego de Cardenas ~ So nice of you to invite us! This whole thing where you find random things for us to do so you can let other people shine in prominent roles, it's wonderful, it really is! Just keep paying us, we'll show up, we'll give you a soundbite, and we'll try not to ruin the beautiful plans you have.

..::[Diego leans back down into his seat again.]::..

Hector Rodriguez ~ They wanted The Vice Squad to get back to the tag title match as the top contenders, unquestioned, and we didn't screw that up for them, did we, D?

..::[Diego shakes his head.]::..

Diego de Cardenas ~ Nah, we didn't stir the pot too much. They said The Vice Squad were the second best tag team in the company, and that no matter what we did, those chicks would be the ones getting the shot at the belts at Path Of The Warrior, and no matter what we said, The Vice Squad were the top contenders...

Hector Rodriguez ~ And would you look at that, we went out there, didn't stir things up... and we lost. How wonderful for whatever jokers are running EWA these days...

..::[Hector rolls his eyes.]::..

Diego de Cardenas ~ I'm not saying we didn't give it our very best out there against The Vice Squad... and that we weren't trying to defeat them... and that we weren't trying to make them look golden with our propensity for having spectacular matches over our career.

Hector Rodriguez ~ So what are we trying to say, here, D?

..::[Diego just shrugs.]::..

Diego de Cardenas ~ I'm just sayin' that we're here to do our jobs because we're just happy to be gettin' these fat EWA pay checks. And they don't have to feel obliged to give us anything special, because we'll take whatever opponents they give us...

Hector Rodriguez ~ Yeah, we don't care if they're wasting their money by not giving us anything of substance to do. We're more than happy to just be on the other side of the ring from The Goerens as they try to reconcile or co-exist or whatever the fuck they're calling it.

Diego de Cardenas ~ I mean, if they want to take the bridles off and let us run free, to see how much horsepower El Chupacabra's got, we're more than happy to oblige.

Hector Rodriguez ~ They just need to do more than just say the words.

Diego de Cardenas ~ Right, right, because that's all we hear around here, is just lip service. They tell everyone how pleased they are to have us on the roster, and how their new tag team acquisition is already making waves in the rankings and shit.

Hector Rodriguez ~ And then they book us in shitty Battle Royals and in tag matches against their high ranking teams, but the matches are cut off at the knees so they don't actually mean a fucking thing.

Diego de Cardenas ~ We would love to get in there and start winning meaningful matches against meaningful opponents.

Hector Rodriguez ~ But that doesn't seem to be something they're interested in letting us do, so until then, fans of EWA, you're getting two Mexican competitors who may as well be nameless.

..::[The car obviously having stopped, the door is opened and the duo get out.]::..
