EWA Combat Champion

It was the moment she’d been waiting for. Path of the Warrior. Her first big name show and it was happening in her hometown of Chicago, Illinois...even if she wasn’t considered a name yet, being in front of her hometown crowd is exactly what she needed. The bookings for the show were about to be released any minute, and Sahara made no qualms about wearing out that refresh button so she could be among the first to see them the moment they got posted. Glancing at her watch, the seconds felt like hours as the big hand slowly swirled around the outer rim...taking FOREVER. Five...four...three...two...FINALLY, the moment had arrived! Frantically, she clicked on the link Night 1. Shaun Sinclair v Indrid Calder Alyssa Marie Haven v Maggie McIntyre NOTHING v Martin Robinson Osbourne Kilminster v X-Calibur Jurgen Johanssen v Michael Draven Grady Smith v Alexander Haven Did she miss it?! She read the names again just to make sure...holy god, she thought, did Stacy Vandervort actually put her debut PotW match on Night 2?! No way! Finally, her family would have a reason to be proud of her... Her heart raced, now more than ever. Clumsily out of excitement, she attempted to click back in the browser a few times but missed the button completely. Calming herself a moment, she shook out her nervously shaking hand and carefully hovered over the back button before clicking it this time. She stared at the link for Night 2 and closed her eyes. She wrapped her index finger over her middle finger and crossed her heart. The moment of truth had arrived. Finally opening her eyes, she clicked on Night 2. The Vice Squad v The Latino Powers Michael Draven v Martin Robinson Dredd v Indrid Calder Johnny Napalm v Johan Dietrich Grace Goeren v Shaun Sinclair v Indric Calder Lunatikk Crippler v Ray Willmott Laura Seton v Azrael Goeren v Chris Kage "No." "No, please...did I miss it?" As she read the names again, reality began to set in. She wiped her eyes and went back to read both days again, clicking refresh a few extra times to make sure no last minute changes had been posted...and much to her dismay, they hadn’t. Her heart sank. She sat there, alone...staring at the screen in bewilderment. As her eyes welled up with tears she couldn’t help but wonder what she’d done wrong? Stacy told her to improve, and by all measures in the wrestling world, she had done just that. She took Napalm, a grizzled veteran, to his limits. She lost, but … hell, she even kicked out of a Napalm Bomb...and how many people in the history of the wrestling world could say that?! What’s a girl gotta do to get ahead around here?! Grabbing the mouse she simply stared off into space a moment before she slammed it down a few times, yanking it off the computer and throwing it against the wall. Was it because Mirage was an outsider to the EWA family? What about her? Why do people, at every turn, insist on lumping her in with her husband as some sort of automatic knee jerk reaction to everything? Couldn't they see she was her own person? She hadn’t used Mirage for ANYTHING. Not to get over, not for training...NOTHING. She wanted to do it on her own. Hell, half the people booked were booked in multiple matches even...and Stacy couldn't find a place for her...not even a dark match?! Her voice nearly cracked as she spoke aloud to herself. ”You lied to my face, Stacy…” She sniffled and wiped her sleeve across her eyes. ”I did everything right...I did. Everything right. But it was Calder who was right all along. You try to do things right in his business and...and this is what you get.” She shook her head in absolute disappointment as she sat back, slowly swiveling the chair around. She propped her elbow on the armrest and leaned her face against her thumb, fore and middle finger, thinking. She heard her own words...and she knew she'd arrived at that pivotal moment where the decision you make ultimately changes you forever. There comes that point in everyone's life where they run into a fork in the road. And there it was. Which path do you take, Sahara? The righteous or the lost? The tears she had shed moments earlier had evaporated and almost instantly been replaced by a brooding anger. She clenched her teeth highlighting her jawline where the bruises of her past battles had healed well. The black mascara that slightly ran down her cheeks highlighted her eyes as her brow furrowed. Her pale blue eyes were ablaze with rage. Her voice suddenly cold and distant. ”I’ll show you all...” |
