Are these Spektrum concerns unique?

I'm concerned to read such extensive Spektrum criticism on the RCM&E forum, link below:

http://www.modelflying.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=115749&p=1

Do all manufacturers suffer from this kind of attack from time to time, or is this unique to Spektrum? Last year the Club had a problem with a Dx6 and I suffered with a faulty Dx6i; however my recently purchased (September 2016) Dx6 has been faultless - so far!

Any views?

My six penny worth is that this sort of thread is not unique - I remember similar 'concerns' over Futaba 2.4 and that was from a long time training school operator.
I noted that one person in the tread found fault with the switch saying squeezing the Tx caused intermittent problems. Didn't I see this at the field and I think that was a Spektrum Tx? I do know that PC boards do not like being flexed as it leads to a break down of soldered joints and that goes for any electrical component including cheap slide switches.
If there is a break in the signal, a Spektrum receiver LED should flash - I didn't notice any reference to this.
Also I didn't see any reference to the Rx power supply, which i know to my almost-cost is critical. If there is a longer RF problem, the failsafe should operate. If a model is out of radio control (as opposed to pilot and mechanical failure...) and the failsafe does not operate, it points to the Rx power supply failing.
I use a JR Tx bought in 2009 that uses Spektrum DSM2 technology with Spektrum DSM2 Rx's and so far no problems... the Tx has a single aerial which I have pointing sideways.
My belief is that anything built down to a price tends to use 'cheaper' components that can lead to reliability issues particularly if they are not properly protected/mounted in the case. They should be fine in a relatively flexible plastic box but the comments will be more likely to suffer from rough treatment.
Spektrum is thought to be the most popular radio, so Spektrum will have more failures that others because there are more of them... Add to that the DX6 is very popular with beginners... Put that together and the odds are higher for a Spektrum failure, but it also means there are more Spektrum Tx's working perfectly...

Hi Martin , Ive been using Spektrum DX5 ( very simple basic ) for 9 years and DX9 for 3 years and many receivers. Apart from a broken trim switch on the DX5 which I fixed myself they have all been faultless.

I agree with Jon, I have no issues with my DX7s. However I was considering a DX8 but Horizon Hobby are closing in the UK and consolidating their European base to Germany. One of Spektrums strengths has been the great service offered by HH in the UK. The idea of having to telephone or post any faulty equipment to Germany and get a speedy response fills me with trepidation. I emailed HH about this and it seems that they are only maintaining a sales base in the UK and all service issues will be dealt with in Germany. I shall wait to see how it pans out but Taranis is very tempting.....

Our Club DX6 did have a problem, the mother board was taking 700ma which flattened the battery very quickly, still controlled the model though. HH replaced by a new one from Germany. I did experience a problem when flying Pete Blake's Junior 60' DX6 lost signal, model in tree.

Having said that, and as said earlier, Spektrum systems seem to be the most popular so will seem to suffer more problems because there are more of them. The point about being produced to a price is very relevant in that their programming philosophy is not very logical compared to my Weatronic (but they have gone bust).

I do not know if it is just me but I think Horizon Hobby products (E-flite Spectrum etc )seemed not to be so reliable these day.Once their product where good quality but know they seem to have a few gremlin creeping in.There have been a lot of problems with the mother boards on the DX6 in my new club and a lot of the members have gone back to Futaba because of it.I know there customer service is second to none but if the product is becoming suspect from new what is the point in buying it!!!!
