Transmitters in Hot weather; transmitters shutting down

HI all just a word of caution in this glorious hot weather. On Sunday my transmitter shut down suddenly whilst flying causing loss of control and crash . Not too much damage fortunately as the fail safe had been set to shut motor down. I have since replicated the fault with a hair dryer and it was due to the transmitter getting excessively hot to the touch standing in the sun and under operation. I am sure the transmitter is out of specification with this regard and should be able to cope with these temperatures , but probably good advice not to leave your equipment out in the baking sun , or your transmitters for that matter !!

That is a really good point Mike, leaving (mostly black) txs out in the sun can make the temp go up alarmingly but they should be able to cope. Its all well and good keeping them in the shade between flights but difficult when you are flying.

Its Spektrum DX9 . I have emailed them to ask what is the temp rating for this as I cannot find it in the specification. And guess what .............heard nothing back.
I am going to replace it anyway for peace of mind.
