One of my 3s 3300 packs has had a cell go down, anyone suggest the best way to discharge it fully before it is disposed of? |

I use an old 55w/12v headlamp bulb across the pack. |

All good advice, but why the need to discharge them? I've previously just thrown them in the supermarket "battery disposal " bins charged or not. |

What I think we have to realise is the enormous energy potentially stored in even a "worn out" LiPo that is not discharged. Any short in the disposal bin could cause an unstoppable fire. I don't think the supermarket's mean their bins to be used for our high capacity and voltage batteries, they are ok for an alkaline AA...... I would strongly recommend that all LiPos to be disposed of be fully discharged. |

That's given me room for thought. I hadn't even considered the remaining charge being dangerous in any way as I was disposing in an authorised container. I think it's a salt bath for the next one before it goes in the container. I'm not convinced they can be thrown in the bin after discharge, so I'll still be putting them in the battery disposal box. |

Like you Tony I was surprised that the link Mike provided in his post said they could go in normal waste. Just wait until the Coucil Waste Police find a LiPo in your landfill bin.......... |

The BMFA advise against the use of salt water because it adds lithium salt into the water system. They advise fully discharging and taking to the battery disposal at the waste centre. |
