Sad to say that The Hobby Box in Uckfield closed for the last time at the end of July. They were concentrating on Railways but stocked balsa, ply, glues and many R/C accessories. It is perhaps sign of the times with internet shopping being so easy, these sorts of shops cannot exist on just the small items, they need to sell the big ticket items as well to make a profit. We may moan but are the architects of their demise by buying the big ticket items on line. We once had a super model shop in East Grinstead (South Eastern Models), one in Salfords (Red Baron Models) and one in Uckfield - all now sadly closed. Our nearest one now is probably SMC in Worthing. I worry about that outlet too as when I was last there I was the only shop Customer, hopefully their on line side will keep the shop open. Time will tell. |

I spoke with Dave Charles at the NATS yesterday and he says his shop is no more than 'ticking over'. |
